  1. So why did the Mosaic reissue not include this track? Nor its B-side.
  2. Yesterday in the afternoon: Today in the car this Jelly Roll Morton compilation, which was a bonus from a discogs seller last week. I have it all in other reissues, so I will pass it on to a friend.

  4. https://www.academia.edu/37353945/Bossa_Nova_e_Jequibau_músicas_em_dialogo But, as one would have thought, a drummer was substantial in creating the rhythm, Zé Nazário: https://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zé_Eduardo_Nazário
  5. He posted on facebook that his recovery is slow, but it seems to progress. Wish him well.
  6. These 5/4 tunes were a new genre of Brazilian rhythms called "Jequibau". Unfortunately it didn't live long. There even was a method for playing it in English, but I never managed to get a copy. MacKay & Hamilton were great at playing this.Mario Albanese "invented" this rhythm
  7. This afternoon: Right now berfore going to sleep: The latter is a fantastic album!
  8. Rather similar to basic tango steps. I wonder how Brazilian danced to Bossa Nova, If they did.
  9. From the Texan Justice label. It sounds so good, so relaxed that it's fun to listen to just for the excellent recorded sound, in the sense of a true high end recording, but the players are all in fine form. If you want a natural trumpet sound, here 'tis.
  10. This afternoon: The music is fine, Sears plays very tasefully without any cheap R & B effects, his sidemen are in great form. But Van Gelder places the tenor sax at the far left, guitar and piano on the far right, almost nothing in the mioddle, and he shifts the guitarist to the left when he solos. I hate that he treated labels like Prestige and Savoy second rate.
  11. I love his playing on Otis Rush's album! So much power. R.I.P.
  12. This afternoon: It's so sad this talented singer had to succumb to cancer in 2019 .....
  13. The recorded sound of this album is excellent, clear but not too bright. Onl 35 minutes, but good music.
  14. 🤣
  15. FWIW, here's the German version of that Eydie Gorme hit. At least there is the proper woodblock pattern. It was of an epiemic effect back then. Over here the Manuela version had a similar effect. When I just played it my wife instantly danced to it, as she knew it from her teens. People danced to anything.
  16. Which may be 'cause the Bossa Nova became a symbol for easy listening style Latin American music. Which in turn may have to do with the lack of knowledge about Brazilian music in general and the watered down US versions.
  17. This afternoon: Vikilcky really is one the best European jazz pianists!
  18. This weekend's bottle: Silvestro - Roero Arneis DOCG 2019
  19. Pulled this from the mailbox this afternoon - it rocks!
  20. After finishing the Swing Street box I will proceed to this one: https://www.discogs.com/Mildred-Bailey-Her-Greatest-Performances-1929-1946/release/3641455
