Galuppi was an excellent composer on the level of Vivaldi and others. The bassoon concerto here (transcription of a flute concerto) is a beauty! Sara Mingardo sings with the timbre of a countertenor, which suits the piece perfectly. You can imagine how a castrato sounded.

Is there really no other CD reissue of the four titles ( plus one alternate) that trombonist Vic Dickenson recorded for Blue Note in 1952 than the Mosaic Box Set with Edmond Hall etc.? I'd really love to hear these .....

Picked Pee Wee Russell tracks from the Beiderbecke/Trumbauer/Teagraden, Coleman Hawkins, and H.R.S sets yesterday afternoon. Great to have this music at hand when reading about it in the biography.

Well ..... judging by this chilly summer, I'm skeptical.

Very nice recording on period instruments. They don't try to make the music greater than it is, which is absolutely perfect. I wish Mozart or Beethoven would be played with the same unpretentious attitude.
