R.I.P. What a sad loss for his family and the board .....
Everybody should take care that the board will be informed in case of such an incident. I have no intent of leaving this world at this moment, but among the notes for my wife will be the board member name and the password.
Got it today - will give my older Vogue CD to a befriended pianist for Christmas. Like the sound of the solo tracks, and like and understand Monk's playing much more than the last time I listened to this. Sometimes time does tell.
Great interview - thanks for posting. Should be a standard text for jazz historians and fans alike.
I'm sorry to say I never got around to check him out in depth - I will try to remedy that. I remember a TV broadcast of his group at the Berlin Jazz Festival - just as Chuck, I was clueless.
R.I.P.
I regret selling some Atlantic mono LPs of the Modern Jazz Quartet - they had more punch in the bass, were more dynamic. If I ever find clean copies at a good price, I'll gor for them. The Mosaic box remastering is good, but the dynamics are a bit reduced.
Crow mentions; " Several different trumpeters passed through, including Clark Terry, Jerry Tyre and a Yugoslavian trumpet player Willie Dennis brought down from Berklee School of Music."
Could that be Dusko Gojkovic?
The Duke's Musicraft sides - this was on my wantlist for many years. Found a mint copy for an excellent price.
How's this album - what do you think about it?
