  1. Next on is this one, while my wife and I unpack our Christmas gifts. This is the Essential Jazz Classics issue with bonus material.
  2. I always dig out these beautiful varitions on French Christmas melodies at this time of the year - and these are splendid performances. Merry Christmas, and Happy Holidays to you all!
  3. EDITION LEO HILLINGER 2016 Rotweincuvée Burgenland made from three grape varieties from Soth East Austria: Blaufränkisch, Zweigelt, and St. Laurent.
  4. A fine example of what happens when an open minded orchestra works with a conductor from the historically informed performance scene. Fantastic, enthusiastic performance, and great sound, too.
  5. That one even was on CD in France, but right now goes at ridiculous prices! Those Ammons and Archia tracks look interesting - I think a friend once played them to me many years ago.
  6. Oh, I have that one - a candidate for a compilation CDR that I intend to do. Very nice! Just ordered a copy - decided to extend this year's season, at least for listening.
  7. A truly seasonal thread ..... Just finished this one, picked up after reading about it in the Xmas Jazz recomendations thread: That's where I got a pointer at this one, too: The late Jon Hendricks sings on a few tunes here.
  8. A copy of this one is still in the mail on its way to this home, I hope it arrives before the season is over, I think I picked up quite a few recommendations from this thread, thanks to everybody! I'm buying between one and three discs of that genre every year, depending on what's available at a reasonable price. Another one I picked up this December after being mentioned here and just gave a spin was Dave McKenna's solo piano CD: Now what I am still looking for is a compilation of jazzy treatments of Christmas tunes from the 1920's and 1930's - any recommendations, please?
  9. A true original. R.I.P.
  10. Loads fine here. Prices on the Mosaics are the same as the before. The James P. Johnson is new on the list. Great.
  11. Finally re-installed my Hi-Fi - had to remove it so a window could be replaced. Have a pile of discs awaiting proper soundimg playback, among them:
  12. My guess: it is their take on the Record Store Day method, and the CDs will follow later.
  13. On all hybrid SACDs I own the high resolution layer sounds better, simply because of the higher resolution compared to red book CD standards. Even when remastered from analogue tape. I have quite a few examples sitting on my shelves. And that resolution is higher than that of an analogue vinyl pressing. They all sound different, when played back on proper equipment. At least to my ears. It's all in the (re-)mastering.
  14. Can't find this in the Lord disco or on discogs ....

    Frank Zappa

Geez. If the recent DVD release is any indication of things, this should be killer stuff.
  16. I'd prefer a release on SACD ....
  17. My favourite album by Mrs. Baker, and her jazziest.
  18. Oh no! One of my favourite jazz singers has passed .... I saw him right here in town last year, and he was great but looked a bit tired and like he had some health issues. It was special as he had opened that concert series twenty years ago. I had been there, too, He had such a warm voice and feeling. I will miss him. He had everything I wanted from a jazz singer. R.I.P., and many hearfelt thanks for the music. http://www.kansascity.com/entertainment/ent-columns-blogs/back-to-rockville/article190403104.html
  19. R.I.P. What a sad loss for his family and the board ..... Everybody should take care that the board will be informed in case of such an incident. I have no intent of leaving this world at this moment, but among the notes for my wife will be the board member name and the password.
