Podger's is certainly one to consider. Not quite my taste, but sure excellent. Only half of 'em, but also very, very good: Not cheap (Japanese Import), but also excellent: Also brand new: Judging from sound samples I heard, this might be another candidate:

Looks like they beat Mosaic to the Three Sounds big box.. Three questions: Will it include the bonus tracks from the Blue Note reissue of the Three Sounds Blue Note debut? Will it include the bonus tracks from the Nat Adderley Riverside album? Will it include the bonus material from the Blue Hour sessions? Answer: Probably not - with these added the 8 albums would no longer fit on four CDs. p.s. looks like the Japanese The Three Sound Vol. 2 will be included ... Yes - that page needs to be updated! And they are not very generous as far as track listings etc. are concerned ...

My favourite is Monica Hugget: Look for this rather cheap reissue, copies of the first edition are overpriced. What I like about her rendition is that she makes the pieces sound concentrated but not as though they are the most difficult stuff around - it's music, high level but enjoyable, not just a lot of work end effort behind her playing. There is more than a dozen HIP recording now - they are as diversified as can be. Maybe the brand new one by Amandine Beyer is one to check out ...

Got this one based on your recommendation. You;re not kidding - a lot of panache in his playing! Enjoyed it a lot. Glad to read you like it - that "catch me if you can" between both hands in the opering sonata is another highlight. The Skip Sempé disc is another I recommend - his arpeggios are the closest to guitar phrasing I have ever heard played on a harpsichord.

This one has him with Miles' sidemen of the time and Terumasa Hino in Miles' place - Dave Liebman, Al Foster, Mtume, Reggie Lucas, Anthony Jackson - one of the nicest fusion albums of the 1970's, IMHO.

Judging from the production credits, this series seems to be a German i.e. JazzEcho initiative. So maybe they are not manufactured in other countries.

JPC is dependent on Fresh Sound's German distributor, which is not the fastest company in the business ... I have noticed that many titles are available from Fresh Sound directly, but hit the German retailers only several weeks later. Seems they import a whole container at a time ....

Shit! I ordered it today. Part 2 of Sweet Earth Flying has never been released - it was not on the original LP, although presumably it was recorded. The original liner notes state part 2 was recorded, but not included on the LP. I wonder if the tape still exists ...

Sad news ... one more to go from the gallery of jazz greats. R.I.P.

I still prefer a "real" CD to one that I downloaded and burned myself. If you do a limited pressing, maybe on a subscription basis, that would serve all parties, just like you said. I will pre-order a copy, promised, even though my funds are more limited than ever.

I, too, cut down my purchases - too little time for listening, and too many discs I have listened to only once. The box sets are the hardest to get through, still have some unheard discs in Mosaics etc. - but single CDs I play at least once before filing them.

I know - a German fellow drummer wrote his doctoral thesis in ethnomusicology on Jenbe drumming in Bamako and how the technological changes effected the playing situations etc.:
