  1. Very nice - I can't help but love Dave Lambert and everything he did. Funny - I received a Perez Prado recording from 1957 with the Dave Lambert Singers yesterday and wondered who was in the Singers at the time ... is there anything about them on the web?
  2. I finally managed to attach my Don Patterson disco - I need to switch from the flash uploader to the basic one .... here t'is! Disco Don Patterson.pdf
  3. Amazon has cancelled my order, so has JPC - seems the disc is no longer available in Japan. I'd need some kind soul to confirm that those bonus tracks are with Crosby and Fournier, and maybe ...
  4. I couldn't resist, I love this group's music too much. This is the first time I pre-ordered a set ...
  5. I forgot to mention some other of my desert island piano music: Déodat de Sévérac: Cerdana (I recommend Jean-Joel Barbier's recording)
  6. Paul Hindemith - In einer Nacht Arthur Honneger - Toccata et Variations Robert Schumann - Fantasiestücke op.12 (but only by Jörg Demus on a Graf Fortepiano like the one the Schumanns owned) several pieces by Ravel and Debussy (only in their own recordings)
  7. Track 8 I recognized after two notes: The title track from this underground classic album, whch I adored immediately after release and still do.
  8. I would give it three out of five stars - IMO Sharon wrote more imaginative arrangements for Chris Connor and others with most of the same musicians participating, than for this, his own album.
  9. Has anybody mentioned Jerry Coker?
  10. # 14 - Meschiya Lake! I knew this voice sounded familiar - there was a discussion about her on the forum, right?
  11. Thanks again - very interesting stuff. The Chick Webb went straight to my wish list. I actually have a few of these tracks, but haven't listened to the respective discs in quite a while. That Reinhardt track sounded more like Lonnie Johnson or some other American player to me. # 13 - Goodman with Hampton was my first thought, but it sounded much too recent, recording-wise. Nice to hear there are so many people who can play in these styles authentically and with conviction. That Carl Sonny Leyland is stunning!
  12. Thanks for this enjoyable compilation, very well paced and selected. I do not know enough about music from these areas, but of course I have guesses for # 12, kind of a giveaway track with the cute singer's announcement: The Benny, Vic, and Red in question should be Carter, Dickenson, and Norvo. I'm really curious about who all these players are ....
  13. Stanley' debut as a leader, recorded during a stint of the Charles Tolliver Quartet in London (there is a quartet album, too). It already shows all the energy and talent Cowell displayed during his entire career.
  14. I haven't heard this album (yet!), but Lord says 'Live "Basin Street East"'. Was it recorded after the audience had left then (it happened)? Perhaps the tape ran also at the actual gig and the tracks are from that. Just speculations, but I now know what release to look for. I never trust Lord without consulting a second source! The 1995 Capitol CD reissue, produced by Cuscuna, says it was recorded at Capitol Studios, New York City, June 20-21, 1962 ... no trace of a live audience audible.
  15. Could you please look up what it says about the bonus tracks?
  16. Jazz Moments was a studio recording. It happened more than once that Cuscuna discovered additional material after the CD issue was out or even out of print - e.g the Shearing solo piano CD on Capitol was first released on CD without the bonus tracks. A June Christy duo track with Stan Kenton comes to mind, too. The second CD issue of the Shearing with Nancy Wilson also includes more bonus material than the first CD release. Is there a Capitol Ruppli discography?
  17. One can listen to excerpts on this allmusic page - trio, but from these short samples I cannot tell whether or not this is Fournier ...
  18. I found out that amazon.de offers that issue - it lists all those bonus tracks. I wonder if I will ever receive it ... I had asked an amazon seller for the track list of a cheaper used copy of a Japanese issue, but it had only the 12 original tracks, so I was skeptical. FWIW, here's the track list - 1-12 are the original LP: 1. Makin' Whoopee 2. What Is This Thing Called Love? 3. What's New? 4. Like Someone in Love - George Shearing, George Shearing 5. Heart of Winter 6. Blues in 9/4 7. Symphony 8. When Sunny Gets Blue 9. Wonder Why 10. Mood Is Mellow 11. Gone With the Wind 12. It Could Happen to You 13. Gentleman Friend 14. All This and Heaven Too 15. (I'm in Love With) The Honorable Mr. So and So 16. Evolution 17. Close Your Eyes 18. Night We Called It a Day 19. It's You or No One 20. Ill Wind
  19. Thanks - any more detailed info on those bonus tracks is appreciated.
  20. The original issue of this trio session with Israel Crosby and Vernel Fournier included 12 tracks, as did the Capitol CD reissue. I came across info there was a reissue with four (?) bonus tracks added. Is this true, and what are the titles, recording date, and label, country and number of this reissue? Thanks, as always.
  21. Keep in mind that Buddy plays vibes exclusively on the Mastersounds recordings. I doubt Mosaic would go for this - Cuscuna expressed his criticism about some of their arrangements when he included part of the tracks from Kismet on a Wes Montgomery Pacific Jazz reissue (Fingerpickin').
  22. The moderation team has communicated it will neither establish another sub-forum nor pin this thread. Let's accept this. I will simply keep it up - like now, after adding another covers thread to the list.
  23. One correction: This was the group's debut LP (tracks 1-10 on the CD). Tracks 11-12 are bonus tracks from World Pacific anthologies recorded at the next session for thelabel; two more were made at that occasion. The music is very good, and much less MJQ-sounding than most would expect. There is a lot more hardbop influence than the MJQ would ever give room to.
