  1. Thanks - I love The Prisoner, but have only faint memories of the German synchronisation of Danger Man in my teens - I will get me a copy later this month. Available in Germany for a similar price.
  2. Yes - he had his very own way to adapt to more modern stylistics, which shows on this Zawinul session, and the Impulse LP he made before he left for Europe. Would have been interesting to hear how he would have developped in these more challenging modernistic surroundings instead of the swing revival attitude his European accompanists seemingly preferred. p.s. and I like the way he infuses his early r & b leanings on the Soulmates date.
  3. Here's a complete list, compiled by board member stereojack - this practice seems to be almost as old as jazz recording contracts. I like Dizzy Gillespie's pseudonyms, e.g. B. Bopstein, or Cannonball Adderley as Buckshot La Funque - but there are plenty great ones that make me laugh.
  4. Yes, that's a great one! Have that on LP - will have to pull it out later ... No - but sure would like to hear that! Any more info? Label, etc.?
  5. Jeez - I sure would miss you, and I'm convinced I'm not alobne with that feeling. I had times like these, too, with very little money to spend on discs, it's not that much better now, but I decided there is always something worth reading on the board to make me stick around. Reading that you'll be homeless soon scares the sh... out of me - any perspectives? My best wishes, under any circumstances.
  6. That was my initial motivation for getting this disc - but Ben's playing is very interesting, and the tune he wrote is nice, and the way he connects to the tunes written by the other players on the date. Ben with Thad Jones and Zawinul .... The three tracks missing are alternates, one with Thad, the other two are quartets - has anyone here heard them on the Milestone twofer? If they are without reverb, it would mean that was added afterwards. But I hesitate to buy a used copy of that double LP, since I already have the other date - the Bill Harris Fantasy LP with Ben.
  7. I have two questions: 1 - does anybody have an explanation for the phony reverb on the saxophone quartet tracks, which is totally untypical for Riverside? Were the tapes doctored with after Riverside was sold - was this one of the sessions still unissued at the time? 2 - This is more a rhetorical question: Why in all the world didn't they include the three bonus tracks that Keepnews had added on the occasion of the Milestone twofer LP reissue, when they issued the OJC CD?

Please PM me a download link, too!
  9. Don't we all know that one? Besides that, I don't think it was supposed to be sexy - looks more like it was too damn hot in the studio.
  10. I do believe you - and how could I forget about The Casbah!
  11. I thought at least in the second part of your statement you were kidding ... I try to imagine how Martin Denny would sound covering that tune.
  12. Exotica? Which tune are you referring to? The title tune, Mating Call?
  13. No - the new one is 7003 - and they claim it was remastered.
  14. Sounds very reasonable - I think maybe it should be limited to jazz or at least music oriented blogs?
  15. Same here - he and hank Jones were the top of my wish list of players to see.
  16. Is that "Here's Ray Bryant" or "All Blues"? Yes, I want to second that - I also like "Solo Flight" (Pablo), and "Somewhere in France" (Label M). "Here's Ray Bryant" is the one with Duvivier - that was, IIRC the first album to make me appreciate this great bass player. Somewhere in France - I never found a copy but heard only good things about it.
  17. "You can't sit there just sittin' there drummin' - you got to think! That's what you've got a head for!"
  18. Very sad news - R.I.P. He was one of those soloists who made an impression on me that they could improvise forever and ever, chous after chorus - Con Alma on the Columbia LP Stereojack mentioned is a good example. Will spin his Prestige Trio LP for breakfast ... But the Pablo trio LPs were very nice, too - the one with George Duvivier in particular.
  19. They sell it at mid-price - after listening to some samples I ordered a copy.
  20. Sounds interesting - these two players seem to me like a perfect combination ...
  21. I had a similar problem - turned I had deleted some essential system files when I deleted Windows Media Player. I re-installed the latest version, and it all works again. Sometimes different parallel working sound or burn software can cause such problems.
  22. Sorry, I forgot to bring my album ...
  23. Is that jazz? 'nuther version - more complete
  24. I think updating their website is not on the top of their priority list. Sometimes it takes weeks until a set appears on the sold out list - e.g. the Witherspoon Mosaic Single is still not listed there.
