  1. Al, I owe you something. I listened to your BFT rightaway, even started typing some answers (which I can't find anymore) but then got distracted by all kinds of things that life brings from time to time, and they persist to this day, nothing serious like a trip to Berlin to see my daughter and help an old friend with a music aducation projects, and several doctors' appointemnets, again nothing serious, but time consuming, and preparing our flat for some major renovation of water pipes - all of that keeps me busy and ostly kills my mood for listening to any kind of music. Let me just say it was a very nice listen and I could only recognize several tunes, but should have identified Rollins, etc. I'm sorry. You deserved more from me.
  2. I need to listen to this. Only one copy of the disc posted above on discogs, but several on amazon, for cheaper shipping rates. It cost me 33 bucks. Oh well ... the others go for higher prices.
  3. GoFundMe campaign to support his family to pay medical bills and funeral costs: https://www.gofundme.com/f/karl-bergers-legacy-support-for-his-family
  4. Just ordered a copy - thanks for the recommendation, shelving problems aside.
  5. Beautiful music by Elvira Muratore, played on and composed for a fantastic 1775 viola d'amore instrument loaned to an equally fantastic musician, Valerio Losito. https://davinci-edition.com/product/c00274/
  6. 2021 Spätburgunder Rosé, feinherb, Lorcher Steillage - one of my favourites, just had the last drops.
  7. Thanks for the recommendations - It turned out I have those I quoted from your post. I will check out the others., But frankly, none of them really has the exquisite quality of the album I chose as topic.
  8. Were those New York Bass Violin Choir albums reissued on CD?
  9. R.I.P. That book is an admirable piece of work.
  10. R.I.P. Very underrated. Whenever I read his name, it was more than interesting.
  11. Absolutely to the point!
  12. Thinking of trumpet players, I like Thad Jones the best with Monk, with Copeland a close second. Monk needed a tenor player finding a balance between thematic improvisation and working the changes, avoiding standard licks. So Rollins maybe the best. Rouse never got in the way and did not just run the changes, but was limited compared to all others. But he simply worked fine in this context without causing trouble, which may have been the most important part. Agreed!
  13. To me it looked like a bag he was put in (or put himself in). There are two cheapo 5-albums-on-2 CDs compilation of some Capitol albums (with overlaps) that make for a nice listen: That he was able to play good organ jazz can be heard on a track he recorded with Harold Land for a Pacific Jazz compilation. https://www.discogs.com/master/921874-Various-This-Is-The-Blues-Volume-1 https://www.discogs.com/master/488486-Various-Blowin-The-Blues
  14. M. Chapoutier Les Vignes de Bila-Haut Côtes du Roussillon Villages 2019
  15. Rahsaan Roland Kirk & The Vibration Society in a 1970 TV recording on the DJazz TV Channel. Looks like the music from this CD:
