I always thought it was clear they are all on the same server - all the EMI-Capitol related sites in the US, including Mosaic and True Blue. The golden rule for any computer user is "Never change a running system" - maybe they did just that.

This is one of the few cases where we know the exact date and even the time of day of a Bach performance. The daughter in case was Susanna Regina Hempel, of a "Akzisekommisar" (don't ask me to translate that) from Zittau, a neat city in Saxonia, the bridegroom was Johann Heinrich Wolff, a merchant in Leipzig. The wedding took place at high noon on February 5, 1728, in the "Schellhaferische Haus", Klostergasse, Leipzig, with the celebratory music performed probably immediately afterwards. The Mendelssohns in question were Robert and Paul von Mendelssohn, it was reported as being in their collection in 1926. There was no trace of the score afterwards. I'm looking forward to hear this, as Bachs secular cantatas were among the works he took the most pains with, to impress the VIPs in town and to show his music could be just as attractive as Dresden operas. He recycled many parts of these secular works for his church music, as it was no problem to perform music that had already been premiered there, whereas honorary persons always required new compositions. Just in case anybody might be interested ...

Name games notwithstanding, this is a fine, heavily under-recorded drummer. There is, of course, part of Silver's Song For My Father and a nice Prestige album by Carmell Jones, Jay Hawk talk, with him participating. But he is still active - there was a mention somewhere on this board on occasion of a new release with younger musicians.

One not to be icluded in this list is Les Humphries, a leader of forgettable pop chorusses in 1970's - 80's Germany.

He can be heard to good advantage on a 1986 John Lewis session, "Kansas City Breaks" (I have a DRG Swing CD of it). The same sextet accompanied singer Nancy Harrow on another session.

The issue you have is a bootleg of the Time Records trio LP mentioned above, get the Steve Hoffmann remaster for best sound - and a legitimate issue:

How much is 40 euros in US money?
mikeweil replied to Hardbopjazz's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
There are websites with online exchange calculators - just type in the amount and select the currencies and hit the GO! button. I only have links to some in German language, but a websearch will turn them up quickly. -

I never liked this particular Mobley cover photo, as it makes him look like some alien insect! -

Did Francis Wollf ever take a bad photo?
mikeweil replied to Hardbopjazz's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Every photographer takes several, in most cases many, many photos before he gets one that he thinks is really great. The reason we do not know any "bad" is they never get published. Would you publish an inferior photo you've taken? -
WEIRD Dreams?? Recurring or one of a kind??

Nice to see THIS thread on dreams seems to get some response - I posted one of mine here - too lazy to repost here ... -
Alfa Romeo!! At one time my dad owned a 1974 GTV and a 1975 Spider. The GTV was kept until the mid-eighties. The car was very fun to drive. My brother has two of these!!! And a Singer. His vices - besides cars - are antiquities and the never ending rebuilding of his house. Mine? Buying CDs, browsing the internet too long too late at night, and being as lazy as I can ...

I got mine on Ebay Germany for 40 EURO - so 25 $ is a very good deal. The prices of some second hand dealers are a little over the top .... Found out I was wise enough to keep my stereo LP copy of Fontessa and will compare with the Atlantic Jazz CD, which has the mono release. Wonder which takes they used on the box set ...

Just remembered that the title track on Beaver Harris' solo Lp African Drums is a 10 minute duo with Frank Lowe.

I dig his early recordings from the 1940's, just after he left Lunceford to stay in California and start his own band. There is a first volume on Classics that I enjoy very much, more is hopefully to come. This is another arranger - like Gil Evans - who grew up at the tail end of the swing era but went on to create real modern stuff - amazing.

A very nice album, I wrote a feature and concert review on him as it was just newly released. Still I think it's a little too controlled - Eastern Rebellion was a much looser band, live and on record, and groovier. Well, that's probably due to the difference between a working band and a studio group. Astor Place was a nice label - someone should re-release all their CDs.

Don't you know, after 6000 they start you over as a Newbie? The system at least seems perplexed - he passed 6000 and is still Dr. Funkenstein. Nothing beyond that .... ? Board moderatorsm, wake up, get out the champagne!

Irony has it I mentioned how rare Cosmic Music is on a thread about a new Coltrane release ... Oh my God ...
