  1. Did anyone else get a notice that their box set orders during the last "prices to be too good to be true sale (i.e. Ella set at $29.33) were either cancelled due to BMG no longer carrying the item or claim that order was cancelled due to "item being returned?" Several of my box set orders were cancelled even though item is still available on their website and bogus claim that I had returned the item already (though never even received it) I did get the Ella and Ray Charles sets at give-away prices so at least that worked out. I just fired off a complaint to BMG Customer Service on the orders "cancelled" Anyone else dealing with this issue?
  2. any ideas on who NOW has the best price on this set? Costco.com is now at $48 plus shipping Their stores no longer have this set! Probably not worth more than $40 including shipping to me...
  3. I live in Portland. If any Board members are considering coming to Portland next month, I'd be glad to assist with advice about where to stay and can show you around our fair city. Be prepared for rain. Also for movie buffs at the same time of the Jazz Festival, we will be having our International Film Festival-which is always superb. Should be plenty to keep everyone busy!
  4. WHAT A GREAT SHOT OF YUSEF LATEEF..... Somebody ought to be picking up that photo right quick..... Too bad I'm $750+ poorer after having our hot water heater blow up, otherwise......

  15. I too loved the Liberation Music Orchestra set as did the crowd, who begged in vain for an encore! The next night the Mingus Big Band did a terrific set as did Bobby Watson Horizon band with James Zollar substituting for Terrell Stafford and Jeremy Pelt (who was announced to be there but did not show) It was cool to hang out with Eric....

  18. Aggie& anyone else near a Target Store: I checked EVERY (probably 10) Target stores in the Portland, Or/Vancouver, Wa. area and they had all been sold out of the AM/FM CD Combo player with external speaker that you mentioned was being closed out for $100 at Target. They mentioned they had all been gone for 1-2 weeks. If anyone out there in Organissimo land has a Target near them that still has this combo model with external stereo speaker at the $100 price , I'd be mighty appreciative if you could pick one up (after you buy yours that is..) and I'd pay the $100 plus shipping cost/tax, etc. (and throw in a CD I can find for you out here (CD Baby is located in Portland) for your time. But maybe they are all sold out where you live too...? Thought it might be worth a try..... -Jeff
  19. I just bought this book at a local record store closing down one of their locations-a bargain at 50% off. I grew up near San Francisco-unfortunately, the Fillmore jazz scene had long since ended before the 1960's. When I was growing up there, Basin Street West had closed down but the El Matador and Great American Music Hall had jazz. The North Beach topless scene put an end to the jazz clubs there. I fondly remember Keystone Korner also. Now there is only Yoshi's in Oakland and Jazz at Pearls in the City. Last I heard Kimball's was no longer in business.
  20. Aggie: Their online site certainly does not have these prices for their Tivoli Audio products. Wonder if it is just in your area? Anybody seen these prices in their West Coast stores? If so, I'm running down to my local Target ASAP...
  21. Thanks for your first impressions, guys! This set will move to the top of my "want list"
  22. Has anyone bought the Onzy Matthews Mosaic Select yet? What are your opinions of the music? the sound samples sound wonderful- in the Gerald Wilson vein-but even more soulful. And the sidemen are top notch.. Impressions of this set appreciated. THANKS!
