  1. I don't think we've mentioned Bill Withers which we absolutely should, shouldn't we? here's some social comment from Bill on what is one of the great live Soul albums I think
  2. Queen B B.B.King AFKAP
  3. And a fair few of them are currently around at reasonable prices, that's where I might go next. I did see a Bud Shank and Koto one too, may look on YT for that before shelling out Now on one I do have and like, a lot Paul Horn - In Kashmir, Cosmic Consciousness [Liberty, UK 1968, mono]
  4. My copy isn't a gatefold, that must have got lost over the Atlantic. I will check the series listing on Discogs, thanks for the tip off
  5. I hope they don't expect you to read the second copy too! It's reassuring to hear positive stories about public libraries still producing the goods given everything they've been through. I spent too many years working in them not to care
  6. I love the "we feel it is our obligation to make it available", sounds so altruistic doesn't it? At a nice RSD premium, they forgot that bit. Who do they think they're kidding
  7. Kinichi Nakanoshima - Koto & Flute [Liberty, UK 1968] thanks to @JSngry. Definitely interesting, as you said
  8. M Miles Davis - Turnaround, Rare Miles From The Complete On The Corner Sessions [Columbia, 2023] Always regretted not buying the boxset so this is a small (very small) compensation. Sounds great
  9. Ordered the LP set today so I'm pleased to hear good reports
  10. I didn't think that lived up to the sum of it parts, such an interesting line-up. I should revisit
  11. Thanks for finding that, really interesting.I can hear why you wanted to track it down
  12. Sadly unlikely to find it in a flea market over here. Nothing online to hear either
  13. Absolute gem, desert island for me. Enjoy!
  14. Yes, it's just the thing I was hoping would be suggested. I found it on Tidal. Lined up for a couple of upcoming long train journeys. Just have to remember to not sing along out loud
  15. I like the sound of that
  16. Me too, loved 'The Unforgettable Fire'
  17. Ouch! In a good way, that hits a spot
  18. Thanks everyone, lots to listen to These are just what I was after, especially as I know the names as an in (I had no idea the Womacks had this background, absolutely no surprise though). The compilation looks interesting Yes to both of these, thanks. Inez delivers that's for sure Fabulous
  19. OK, so off the back and success of Pim's Soul thread here's one for some Gospel recommendations. I know next to nothing about the genre beyond Aretha's backstory and a very little of The Staple Singers. I remember The Winans having a moment in the UK in the 80s. I'm not sure how my lack of any faith will influence my reaction to this music or not but let's give me a chance. Go easy on me...
  20. Have we mentioned Smokey? Seems to be doing ok... https://www.theguardian.com/music/2023/apr/27/at-83-i-still-feel-sexual-smokey-robinson-on-love-joy-drugs-motown-and-his-affair-with-diana-ross
  21. I agree. And I only liked bits of Rattle & Hum
  22. Thank you, I shall investigate
  23. Yes, that's my understanding too. I had them all when the Mosaic was released and decided I could live without X-75 pt.2, although pt.1 is pretty special
  24. Now that's somewhere I need to go sometime I haven't the faintest clue about the genre. A recent big impression was made by Jimetta Rose and the Voices of Creation which to my uneducated ear has at least a Gospel influence?
  25. Marion Brown - Afternoon Of A georgia Faun [ECM, Germany 1970] Great album, great cover art
