  1. Roy Ayers - Virgo Vibes [Atlantic, mono 1967] Another of those Strata East but not dates
  2. whilst we're talking Ornette, 'Lonely Woman' does it for me and Carla Bley's 'Ballad Of the Fallen', Haden playing her 'Silence' too. Miles' 'He Loved Him Madly' and that's just for starters
  3. Livestreams are good but never give a real indication I find. Decoy as a trio were on fire and I found myself focussing on them a bit more than McPhee's contributions in the first set - a 40 minute 'Tell me, how long has Trane been gone'. To my ears the quartet sounded more integrated in the second set. I just wish I'd been in the room where I'm sure McPhee's power (still, at his age) would have had a greater visceral impact
  4. Some of those take me right back. Loved Light of the World at the time
  5. For those interested, Café Oto are streaming the gig this evening. 8.15 UK time https://www.cafeoto.co.uk/events/decoy-joe-mcphee-residency-2/
  6. I really rate that album
  7. I purchased too. It's very good on first acquaintance
  8. I'm just listening to the one piece available on Bandcamp. I think a download purchase is imminent.
  9. Sounds great, shame it's on 577 rather than Matchless from a UK purchase perspective
  10. We were still protesting against Barclays in SA when I was a student in early 80s
  11. That Wadada Leo Smith evening, wish I could be there for that
  12. I've just worked out I have 15 or so sections...I need help! That's just the LPs. And that's without a 'Zodiac' section (although I do have the Dankworth, great album) CDs are a little less diffuse
  13. I admire this approach but honestly it gives me the collywobbles, I'm going to have to lie down. I'm like Hutchfan, if I like one album by an artist I invariably just have to have more. I have a shelving section specifically for albums that they are the only title by an artist I own, it's quite a small section. This week I bought my first Charlie Mariano and loved it so much I immediately bought another. I'd not even got close to fully absorbing the first. Duplicates, twice the fun!
  14. This thread is making me feel better already...
  15. Interesting to know, thanks. I like his solo recording on Hat
  16. Jerzy Milian Trio - Baazaar [Polski Nagrania Muza, Poland 1970] Vibetastic!
  17. Perennially sits on my 'must buy' list but I never get around to doing so. I like Jaume's music Disc 1. a bit of a Coltrane day having listened to 'Giant Steps' and 'Ole' but this is next level, track 1 is 'India' and there's no going back from where that takes you
  18. Really enjoyed that, good to have some depth rather than just promotional fluff. The prison bootleg sounds intriguing.
  19. Is Billy Harper a secret guest on that?
  20. Yes, the Melford was very tempting too. Something I'd expect at South Bank or Vortex in its heyday
  21. I think it's been that way for a while now although I might say varied rather than adventurous. Did you have anyone in mind? I'm seeing Kahil El 'Zabar there next week but he seems to have been included in "Spiritual Jazz" orbit so I'm expecting a younger audience {which isn't difficult compared to me!). I'm taking advantage of the new early house designed for the more mature Jazz fan....
  22. Selene Saint-Aime - Potomitan [Komos, France 2022] very happy to have made acquaintance with this artist's two albums recently
