  1. Forza Italia! Well played Italy. Best team of the tournament Thanks Brad. Philosophical here, team of the tournament won It's football, everyone knows it's a prospect One other point, the referreeing has been excellent throughout the tournament
  2. Well played Italy, the best team won. It's going Rome! tactical errors with substitutions by Southgate explains some of it but by no means all
  3. I'm not disagreeing. All I was saying was that with all its faults CF is still worthy of a celebration on FSB and that especially in their early years they released some very good albums.
  4. I think that maybe because many CF releases are recorded by the musicians themselves rather than by CF. This I believe is certainly true from when the release schedule went mad after the initial period of a more measured release schedule. Most of those other labels get the musicians into a studio I think, don't they? Foghorn was very 'boutique' that's for sure
  5. Completely agree. I think Southgate's demeanour has been largely impressive. He very definitely doesn't come over as jingoistic which doesn't mean that his comments aren't presented that way by our largely rabidly rightwing press ( couldn't help but laugh at the linked article, The Express quoting Bild, the irony). Oh, I'd stick to an Innis & Gunn. A proper beer in whichever manifestation I fear it might well be. From my first posts in this thread I've identified Italy as the standout team. No real reason to change that opinion other than the significant tactical change required by Spinazzola's injury. I won't begrudge the marvellous Giorgio Chiellini holding the trophy aloft. Head says Italy, heart says England
  6. That's a great album. One of only two Wilson's I have. Both I really enjoy, I should explore further
  7. I'm not going to go there in any detail as that takes us definitely into politics. I will say that that perspective doesn't really chime with mine as I don't think we fought those wars to create a debt or hold any country beholden. The representation of diverse ethnicities in the England squad that reflects our colonial past is a good thing ( the representation not the colonialism) in my view. And yes, the political class in England could be much more representative (I won't speak for other countries). And once again, now back to the footy... I'm being to feel equal parts nervous and sneakingly confident about this evening. Come on England! 😀
  8. And why saying "some of the English fans" or even "a minority of" would have made even more difference Oh, I don't judge anyone for changing that stance in the last 10 years. I've practically done so myself which has not been a pleasant experience and saddens me. I just hold on to hope that things will change, slim hope but hope nonetheless. Meanwhile I'll hold onto being a Europhile as tight as I can. And yes, anything more would be political not least because of the political causes. I'll leave it there too. Now, back to the footy...
  9. Funny, I was just thinking how it was doing a good job of reminding me of the label's output. There was a time 15+ years ago, when they were in the brown cardboard, when I checked their releases religiously. They then seemed to up the release rate exponentially and quality suffered and I drifted away 10 years or so ago. I now stream the occasional release. It's work in highlighting the scene in Portugal has been invaluable and it does provide opportunities for lots of debut recordings I think it's been a very important label in its time and probably deserves a birthday celebration. 20 years is a good stretch. FJB has always paid close attention to the label from its days as SFJ.
  10. the apocryphal Master Bates the apocryphal Seaman Staines the very real Captain Pugwash
  11. I'll say again, not all the England fans, a minority. Disgusting behaviour, yes Well, we haven't done ourselves many favours in the last few years...
  12. Another LP in my collection due to your enthusiasm for later MJQ from a while back. Thank you!
  13. Pan Afrikan peoples Arkestra - Live At Century City Playhouse [Nimbus West] preceded by Damon Locks Black Monument Ensemble - Now [International Anthem]
  14. Arrived. All good things come to those that wait. 10 minutes in and it's sounding good
  15. The bigger concern is that as community infection rates increase, and we have a government for whom that appears to be policy now, there is a greater likelihood of the virus mutating into new variants. Once again, previous experience is being ignored as the Kent variant appeared the last time community infection rates got out if control. Government gambling again...
  16. I've got that lined up too Both the Apples are well worth a listen. I was turned on to them by JSngrey's enthusiasm a while back
  17. Just dipping into this set and find it more than a little ironic that in a set of this size some of the tracks fade out
  18. Jazz Crusaders - at The Lighthouse '62 whilst trying to decide if I should buy the Mosaic box or not
  19. Mars Volta Pluto the Dog Janet Planet
  20. I didn't think you did at all. I was just alluding to our luck at being the hosts. As you say, if we don't win this one all the others will be harder. Another 55 years probably I agree but I would say it's a minority of those fans in the stadium. The same minority who continue to boo the players taking a knee. Sadly a minority that has become more vocal over the last five years. They are a stain on this country but a sad reflection of other, greater issues and and are sadly encouraged, or at the very least not discouraged, by people who should know better. It makes me very sad and angry that they can make such a very poor impression. The irony is that the team they "support" are the living antithesis of these views. The way this generation of England players deport themselves (with a few exceptions) and the manner in which the manager presents himself is the best of this country. Apologies for going on at length but this is a subject that I feel strongly about. England as a country, and as a set of football fans, can and should be so much better than how it is projected. Back to the football...
  21. Agree on both counts but someone has to be the host...
  22. Well that was a good match. Denmark played well but most of their chances were due to England errors. The amount of pressure England exerted on the Danish defence was very impressive. Was it a penalty? Of course it was Another step closer. England look so incisive going forward it's very impressive. Defensively they need to tighten up but the worry is midfield where they can become exposed by slick passing and fast breaks. Italy will be a real test but not one beyond this squad if all perform well.
  23. Just on the Bandcamp page for 'Lanquudity' and noticed this review/comment "pure freeform vibes" which to my mind just about sums up the our discussion about its currency
  24. Sir Keir Starmer The barman at the Last Chance Saloon St Jude
  25. Back to the good old days of Mole Jazz...
