  1. I tend to agree. This is on the right side of that line, no guitar. However it does feature Lateef or someone else making the most extraordinary vocal noise which can only be described as a distressed sheep on side 4. Also, big thumbs up for the later stuff with Adam Rudolph and others on YAL label
  2. I agree but what is a fudgemunk?
  3. Yusef Lateef - 10 Years Hence [Atlantic, 1975] First listen to a new arrival. Always room for more of Lateef's flute, and other horns, playing in this house. Albert Heath laying down some very serious rhythms.
  4. Aha! Very fond memories of this. That was one of the first Jazz albums I ever heard and connected with. My entry point was looking for music that sounded like the orchestrated music on earlier Tom Waits albums. Not sure how close this was but it worked
  5. Anything by Kirk of that vintage is a must for me but Gearbox is definitely a bonus
  6. It is. Nice little record shop indeed Just done the same That teaches me to be a cheapskate and choose 2nd class postage. It will be good to have a mobile copy.
  7. You got that sharpish. Mine's in the post from Presto so they claim anyway. Does it have a download code? I've read mention of in some listings Nice haul, three crackers. Where did you find them?
  8. Nice start to a sunny Saturday
  9. Only occasionally. There seems a trend amongst some of the younger UK based jazz musicians to add a vocal track or two that sound like a bid for a wider, R&B/Nu Soul/Rap audience (I understand the motive and have no problem with it). Sometimes they just jar a bit with the rest of the album. It's never a deal-breaker most often just a bit of a disappointment. Mind you, as I type this I can't think of an example... Turning the thread on its head, I love the vocal track on Jackie McLean's 'Bout Soul as a fine example of when it works well for me.
  10. Watching the dreadful news from Germany, The Netherlands and Belgium and hoping that all forum members and their families and friends are OK
  11. That one track sounds very good Indeed
  12. Robert The Bruce Little Miss Muffett Muffin The Mule
  13. Lloyd McNeill - Tori [Baobab, 1978]
  14. I'd offer to pop into SOTU and get them for you sooner but I think it would increase your outlay a fair bit at £12 each plus postage
  15. أحمد = Ahmed* ‎– Super Majnoon (East Meets West) [OtoRoku]
  16. Shaggy Velma Scooby-Doo
  17. really enjoying my first listen to XT's Deorlaf from Café Oto. Spiky stuff indeed from Seymour Wright and Paul Abbott. Wright's playing with Pat Thomas, Noble and Edwards coming up, may have to check that one out
  18. XT - Deorlaf X {OtoRoku]
  19. TS Monk Judas Priest Elvin Bishop
  20. Eric Burdon Tom Waits John Le Mesurier
  21. Alan Price Simon Smith A dancing bear
  22. This one comes to mind. It's been on my 'to read' list for ages https://press.uchicago.edu/ucp/books/book/chicago/M/bo25125876.html and maybe also George Lewis touches on it in this https://press.uchicago.edu/ucp/books/book/chicago/P/bo5504497.html I'm sure others here will have read them and comment accordingly
  23. Kind of. I thought it was good in parts but it all seemed a bit too "suited" in that 80s style, a bit trussed up and constrained. I will listen again though
