  1. a stroll down memory lane inspired by a fantastic 'with strings' broadcast by BBC yesterday. He has written some great (and a fair few less great) songs. Always preferred his soul man musical persona over the guitar rock-god one. He certainly deserves his position in the UK pantheon
  2. Pat Thomas - The Elephant Clock Of Al Jazari [Otoroku, 2017]
  3. Matana Roberts & Pat Thomas - The Truth [OtoRoku, 2020]
  4. The cover photo may have been a clue...
  5. Paul Weller - Live at The Barbican. Songs arranged by Jules Buckley for the BBC Symphony Orchestra. This really hits the spot. Buckley's arrangements suit Weller's songs and voice perfectly.
  6. That's great, been listening to his music today and hoping he'll be well again soon
  7. Mine had a fault, replacement on the way Two very different but very good albums there
  8. That's a great way to christen a new flat. Hope you're happy there
  9. Billy Harper - Trying To Make Heaven My Home [MPS Spain, 1980 repress] Thanks for the reminder, copy ordered.
  10. Billy Harper - The Believer [Baystate, 1980]
  11. gradually ticking them off. Wholly driven by the enthusiasm on this board for all things BH
  12. Billy Harper - Knowledge Of Self [Denon, 1979]
  13. I bought a box set from them last year, very well packaged in a box with bubble wrap inside. Made it to the UK in perfect condition
  14. England, yes. Scotland, no. Southgate was clueless with the substitutions, he has five so use them if you're not winning and don't take off your most creative player, Foden Kane is hamstrung by a system that had no England players getting to the byeline to put in crosses, not once! Scotland have some more than decent players and just need a good striker.
  15. Third that duo, terrific album. I'll be interested to sample the Parker albums
  16. Well played Scotland. England were awful, complete lack of imagination.
  17. Yeah, I was dead chuffed when it popped up on my Discogs wants this morning from a UK seller.
  18. And if you're thinking of the download option you can purchase individual tracks for $1.50 to make up your own set
  19. really enjoying this, so far but there's long way to go (59 tracks to be precise)
  20. Streaming this set now. 'Desafinado' definitely identifiable as have been the other two tunes I've heard so far. To me it just sounds like Anthony Braxton playing some famous tunes. If you don't like his playing elsewhere this isn't going to convert you. I always hear the standards and tribute albums as his recordings where his 'cool' influences are so apparent, but what do i know.
  21. And LP Standards sets in the pre-CD age too
