  1. My LP set, not the full one, is waiting at the Post Office for me to collect tomorrow morning. I was lucky enough to see Lloyd in Ronnie Scott's last summer which was fantastic so very much looking forward to this release by effectively the same band. His continued activity is a balm in this troubled world
  2. Breath easy and may your wife's post-op recovery be smooth. Also, remember to look after yourself. Best wishes to you both
  3. Mr Higgins is the man behind the BBE Japanese Jazz reissues. He knows his onions on this subject. I daren't read it...
  4. My favourite singer with one of my favourite piano trios. I hope it's as good as it should be.
  5. Rashied Ali Quintet - First Time Out, Live At Slugs 1967 [Survival Records] One of those 'lost' recordings where the recording quality might suggest it should have remained so if it wasn't for the energy of the playing involved. Valuable archeology. 'Wayfaring Stranger' is the one for me
  6. Funny you say that....since I've been reading your blog I've needed to go to streaming sites to avoid bankruptcy Yes, I try to buy at least one item from the band's stall at gigs I go to these days. It's such an important income stream for them
  7. Easier still go to Spotify or Tidal. No wait for the postman
  8. Sad loss and at a young age too. Love Mazzy Star. Liked Rain Parade and never heard Opal which I should rectify
  9. The best thing apart from the selection about Tower in Piccadilly Circus is that it was open until midnight. That meant post gig, and more dangerously, post pub shopping trips - bound to loosen the wallet and expand the 'I can afford this many' criterion.
  10. Jamael Dean - Black Space Tapes [Stone Throws Records]
  11. Music Inc - Impact [Enja] Alvin Queen! I was thinking that Tolliver must be one of the artists with the highest % of live recordings in his leader dates
  12. I find it extraordinary that iro Haarla doesn't appear on the list, for her own work and the mostly uncredited work she did with Vesala's Sound & Fury. I can listen to Vesala, Jone Takamaki and Juhani Aaltonen any day. Bjorkenheim (solo and in Krakatau), Hauta-Aho, Donner, Tapio, Lahti on most days. And from a younger generation Verneri Pohjola and Mikko Innanen are worth a listen too
  13. David Murray's album 'Spirituals' on DIW
  14. You were correct. I did and now I have. Super sound quality on Duo Exchange I had exactly the same issue. When I spoke with PayPal they danced round the issue but said something like we have to be aware of people using code names and the algorithms pick up these up. Honest Jon's were a bit more forthright in their assessment of PayPal's security algorithm. The issue was definitely with either of the names 'Rashied' or 'Ali' because when I sent a direct payment to HJ without mention of names it went straight through. And I'm still waiting for the refund of the refused payment!
  15. Rashied Ali/Frank Lowe - Duo Exchange [Survival Records, 2LP] starting with the additional material...on fire!
  16. When you find original, good condition Strata Easts at that low $ let me know Just listening to 'Pop Wine' for the first time. Whoa!!
  17. Such a great drummer. On so many good albums. RIP
  18. I say, belatedly, that any selection with the Collier, Elvin, McGregor and best of all the Chambers is one hell of a selection. This project is fascinating, revealing and potentially quite costly!
  19. Review of the Clark book here https://www.theguardian.com/books/2020/feb/13/dave-brubeck-life-in-time-philip-clark-review
  20. That's too young. I only know his recordings with Methenywhich I really enjoy on the occasional outing. Seemed essential to the whole sound of that band.
  21. Steve Lacy - Outings [Ismez] I'm a bit of a Lacy agnostic (I know, I know...) but this is superb. Great cover too.
  22. Yes, it's very annoying. I very nearly purchased that last month from a certain Leicester based supplier. I have 'Bura Bura' and was intrigued by the rest of the concert.
  23. No Love in HJ's either so you didn't miss anything
  24. Honest Jon's, Kings X
