  1. Thanks, led me to find it to rent on YouTube. Weekend viewing sorted
  2. Today...so far Kenny Burrell - Introducing [Blue Note, Tone Poet] Gary Thomas and Seventh Quadrant - Code Violations [Enja]. Prompted to dig this out by mention of Thomas in another thread Strata Institute - Cipher Syntax [JMT] New Directions In Jazz Unit, directed by Bill Le Sage - Vier Celli+Jazz [Phillips] Zagreb Jazz Quartet - With Pain I Was Born [Fontana]
  3. That's now on my purchase list for June 5 too. For Thomas mostly but also for Peterson Jr.
  4. And same here, although I did listen to the album yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed it. Possibly the box's influence
  5. Nicely done Sir. I think the sax only releases were some of my first Hemphill working backwards in my early Jazz days from Marty Ehrlich. With you on WSQ too.
  6. Many Happy Returns for the 11th to TWWWLBYM
  7. 'Jack Johnson' followed by 'In A Silent Way' All of it in one sitting? Some great music across those albums. Abdul Wadud on 'Raw Materials...' a highlight
  8. If it hadn't been for Covid we'd have been treated to the full British patriotic celebration with lots of attempts to recreate the "spirit" of the day in the way only we seem to attempt to do - much flag waving and tea parties. I bet somewhere a politician has somehow managed to shoehorn our current "war against Covid" into comparisons with '39-45. There was a very touching clip on the news of a street in Wales where everyone came out of the houses, remained socially distanced and clapped an RAF veteran as he strode the length of his street. Another Navy veteran spoke of how it was a sad day for him, remembering "all my mates". That to me was the essence of what a celebration should have been - marking and celebrating the efforts and sacrifices of that generation. It would be interesting to know how it's been remembered elsewhere in Europe today. I wonder whether for the liberated nations the celebration/commemoration comes on liberation day. And, one wonders what it means in Germany today.
  9. That makes me smile, especially that he effort was put in twice.
  10. Remainer, remoaner... Waitrose recently had the long spaghetti in Harpenden. My local Turkish supermarket in North London has plenty of the short...you just need to be in the right place I guess...fariners innit
  11. Lloyd McNeill - Treasures [Baobab Recording Co.] perfect music for a beautifully sunny spring day in London town. Forever grateful to felser for this LP (and the other McNeills)
  12. Ahem... https://www.amazon.co.uk/s?k=face+masks&ref=nb_sb_noss
  13. Hannibal And The Sunrise Orchestra - The Light [Baystate]
  14. Sometimes I feel we're so far behind the curve we can't even see it yet...any further development of that thought will inevitably take me into political statements so I'll remain silent.
  15. Interesting. They're still shipping to UK, My Hannibal Peterson LP arrived only yesterday from Japan and mighty pleased I am with it and with them for getting it here . In under 10 days too which is perfectly reasonable from my perspective.
  16. Not sure the chicken would agree...but I kind of agree with your approach otherwise Just off the back of this conversation I've just looked up our current government position on masks, which is " Face masks play a very important role in clinical settings, such as hospitals but there’s very little evidence of widespread benefit from their use outside of these clinical settings. Facemasks must be worn correctly, changed frequently, removed properly and disposed of safely in order to be effective. " It would seem that it's the correct use of them that is the message here
  17. Interesting to read as mask use is slowly on the increase here but only slowly - I'd say about 20% of people I see out shopping. Still no official word on whether use of the is beneficial or not. Most scientific advice over here seems to be that they are useful not for protection of the wearer but to protect others from the wearer who may be carrier. I suspect most people wearing them here are actually doing it to protect themselves. I expect some mandatory use will be introduced to coincide with any relaxation in public transport use. The Mayor of London is already saying a "non-medical face covering" should be used on buses and tubes.
  18. Joe Zawinul - The Rise And Fall Of The Third Stream [Vortex] A recent purchase that keeps finding its way to the turntable. This will become a real favourite.
  19. We had a two minute silence at 11.00 today. Obviously all VE day celebrations have been seriously curtailed. My 94yo neighbour tells of how as an 18yo she downed tools at the factory she worked in and walked the 8 miles into Trafalgar Square to join the celebrations. It must have been such a day of relief. However it also makes me think of my great uncle who remained a Japanese POW after May 8th and for some time still to come. For his and other families in the same position it must have been a bittersweet day
  20. Damn. Genius.
  21. Works for me
  22. If not and you want to do a Tubby, just let me know
  23. Nicely recorded. From Russell's own tapes of three different live radio broadcasts. Two different bass and piano players across the sessions. Music swings the roof off. Any Russell fan is going to like it
  24. I rather suspect that many people with disabilities and chronic health conditions feel that class exists already, as will those that have experienced age discrimination. As with many things, this pandemic is shedding light on these existing disparities and exacerbating them.
