  1. Jeanne Lee - Conspiracy [Earthforms Records] desert island.
  2. I keep meaning to read that book. How is it? I agree with you about those earlier albums and 'Daydream Nation' in particular, and I like 'Dirty' too. I bailed out at 'NYC Ghosts and Flowers' but habit had kept me on board since 'Washing Machine' really. I saw them play 'Daydream Nation' as a celebration of an anniversary so I'm now thinking that must have been the 20th - yikes! Thurston Moore's a London resident now but I've not seen him play since a very unimpressive display with some leading Improv musicians a few years ago. I should give him another chance, he's quite regularly at Cafe Oto
  3. It's great. If you enjoyed the previous trio album on Intakt you'll do the same with this one always interested in a new Sommer recording. One day I'll see him live, I hope
  4. Willem Breuker - Baal Brecht Breuker [Bhvaast] and yes, it does come in a hessian bag. Featuring the ever marvellous Han Bennink's credit for "tapedance" which I take to be a mistranslation rather than anything more exotic.
  5. That's a shame. KonstruKt are a fine band live and on record, although many of the albums I have by them don't have him playing (maybe due to his illness). I do have the Holiday reissue of the trio LP so will spin that in his memory a little later
  6. Larry Young - Contrasts [Blue Note]
  7. John Graas - Jazz Lab 2 [Decca]
  8. Thirded. Never understood all the fuss about EC
  9. postman just dropped this off, sounding very nice indeed John Coltrane Quartet - Plays [His Masters Voice/EMI, mono]
  10. Very good indeed. It sits on the continuum of his studio albums (I thought the live album a bit of a misstep). The strings a bit more foregrounded than on "Savior" but the sound's basically the same, plenty of trumpet. The rapper's on two or so tracks, the spoken word elements are a running thread, but not overly used, in the same way that AA's employed them on previous albums. If you've enjoyed the three previous studio albums then I think you'll feel the same about this one
  11. story is here I think, not read it but headlines suggest so https://www.theguardian.com/music/2018/oct/10/i-believed-love-could-cure-cancer-how-grief-sent-steve-perry-on-a-new-journey
  12. Ambrose Akinmusire - Origami Harvest [Blue Note]
  13. You did very nicely too Now...
  14. $9 and burn your own CD? https://alanbraufman.bandcamp.com/album/valley-of-search-reissue Cecil McBee - Mutima [Strata East]
  15. Alan Braufman - Valley Of Search [Valley Of Search] been listening to this on Spotify since release and finally purchased the LP. A great record and very fine reissue edition. Notes are mighty fine too...I'd actually like them longer CT
  16. Enjoyed listening to the clips but probably not enough to buy it.
  17. I only have one of the ECM whitebox reissue series of which this looks to be the very big brother. In that set the booklet has a 10.5 page essay, in English only, on Codona with 5 pages of photos and two of discographical info so I think your optimism may be well founded across 200 pages. What isn't included is the original cover art but as a Mosaic aficionado I'm sure that'll be OK with you...but drives me mad
  18. May the day be Magnificent indeed
  19. That "and associated ensembles" is really pushing the envelope as wide as possible it would seem. Got most of it, possibly all, on the original discs or vinyl I think.
  20. for which I have my ticket. I saw her with Equal Interest [Leroy Jenkins and Joseph Jarman] at QEH years ago and have very hazy memories of a gig maybe at the old Vortex but it's too hazy
  21. I'd love to see Han Bennink playing cricket. After all I've seen him play most other things including his boots, the stage floor and QEH walls Neither did his Oguns, did they? I should pick the LPs up really
  22. Han Bennink / Willem Breuker - New Acoustic Swing Duo [ICP]
  23. Tasty...and costly
  24. Sounds like a good one (which of McPhee's aren't). Thanks for the review Steve I recently shifted my collection around and discovered quite how many Joe McPhee albums I have in the full range of group sizes and solo and not a dud amongst them. He's not visited here for a little while, I'll not blame him if the travelling's getting more difficult
