That Telegraph review is a disgrace, and would be laughable if not so obnoxiously snide, as it betrays so many prejudices in the reviewer's mind. I enjoyed the first episode mainly because of the pacing. I was a little unconvinced by Wishaw's acting, not the character, but his interpretation thereof What concerned me much more was the very obvious parallels with the "spy in the bag" case from a few year's ago. It has to be the inspiration but I worry that it's too soon to be making entertainment from such a tragic case. I can't begin to think what family and friends of the victim in that case must be living through again because of this drama

I'm rather taken by track 5. the instrumentation reminds me of some of the younger Norwegian players like Dans Les Arbres but the musical style bears little resemblance. It sounds more American somehow. A complete stab in the dark makes me wonder whether Cooper Moore is involved?

That's a tour that a few years ago I'd've expected the Vortex to be listed. Laubrock's played there numerous times before but it seems to me they've dropped off from booking the more adventurous and international acts that they used to. This perceived change does seem to have coincided with Oto's rise.

Richard Davis - Harvest [Muse] interesting focus on his arco playing throughout this and then Terje Rypdal - Descendre [ECM] I've never warmed much to Rypdal but this is excellent

the main discussion has mostly been about Laubrock in response to Allen Lowe's comments up thread. Ibragon's been mentioned in passing in that discussion but there's now concurrent posts about Altschul's 3dom band and folks' views on Ibragon in that. All very confusing.....and I've been following since the beginning of the discussion (I think)

Love that Hampel/Lee.....as I do most of their collaborations. Not yet heard a poor one playing now Dave Pike - It's Time For Dave Pike [Prestige, Mono] just picked up in a local shop (along with Terje Rypdal - Descendre and Richard Davis - Harvest. Contrasting selection to say the least)

I'm listening to the first one again now. Like it more than I remember but I still find Ibragon's undeniable technique obscures feeling to my ears. His playing's like a masterclass demonstration, so much technique. The other two ooze feeling (and technique) - perhaps that's a reflection of their longevity

The flute on track 2 is fantastic. No idea who's playing it. Nice bass playing too. I need to hear more from the album that holds this track which makes it a shame it's in the 'rare' category track 5 is gorgeous and I feel I've heard it before somewhere but can't grasp where just yet

Part of my reason for partaking in this BFT was to get some exposure to some knowledgeably selected music of this era. I know absolutely nothing about these early years (except for the soundtrack to Boardwalk Empire ) so I'll not be ID'ing anyone just listening Track 2 is exactly the type of music I was hoping to hear. I love the clarinet playing on this so will be paying attention to the reveal
