  1. Marion Brown - Why Not? {ESPJapan]
  2. Thanks for that suggestion. After quick online sampling I've ordered a copy. Sounds very tasty Yes, it is. I didn't know it was available on CD. I'll have to keep an eye out for it. I don't think it is. I bought an LP
  3. This Is England 90. Channel 4 on Demand Strong first episode of the, sadly, final series. Meadows' portrayal of everyday life in Britain past is as razor sharp as before. The compiled series will stand proud as testament to great writing, acting and direction
  4. Best served in a sandwich with ketchup (my pre-vegetarian memories may not wholly reliable)
  5. Stanley Cowell - Brilliant Circles [Polydor/Freedom]
  6. Stanley Cowell - Illusion Suite [ECM]
  7. Thanks for that suggestion. After quick online sampling I've ordered a copy. Sounds very tasty
  8. Mr Mitchell looks so dapper. The CD is an intense and rewarding listen
  9. Just back from a concert of solo piano at the beautiful St. John's Smith Square in which Adam Tendler performed Morton Feldman's Palais de Mari Eliza McCarthy performed John Adams' Phrygian Gates Feldman left the biggest impact, maybe because it was my first live Feldman. That Tendler played it from memory was an added element of wonderment
  10. Another Mike Reed fan here. All the 482s are worth hearing. I tend to prefer the Loose Assembly releases over the People Place Things but only just. Speed of Change being my favourite. I've never warmed to the Loose Assembly with Roscoe Mitchell for some reason I'll be buying both new releases. I saw him live with Adasiewicsz's Sun Rooms and he was very impressive
  11. I had to miss that trio at Oto last night. Enjoy it. Drake and Parker are unbelievably good in a live context.I don't know Dikeman so will be interested to hear what you make of it It was fantastic! Especially Hamid Drake made even a bigger impression on me than I could ever hoped for. What a phenomenon it is to see and hear this man in a live setting! Dikeman is a very active member in the Amsterdam scene, so I know that his preferred style of playing is very aggressive and hard blowing. Now this is normally not the kind of playing I tend to like best, but Dikeman really surprised me yesterday in that respect. Yes, it still was aggressive and hard blowing at times, but I think he dosed those moments quite well with some more introspective and even tender moments. Especially somewhere in the second set when Hamid Drake played the frame drum and William Parker some sort of wooden flute and double reeds, Dikeman accompanied them with some beautiful soft and spiritual playing. sounds great. The last time I saw Drake/Parker was with Brotzmann and he responded in a similar way that you describe Dikeman did.
  12. United Front - Path With A Heart [RPM] interesting session. Bit of a punt on Ebay bt glad I went for it as it will warrant repeat listens
  13. Thanks. I for one am pleased to no longer have an excuse. Tasty stuff as is some of the label's other releases
  14. Peter Kuhn - Ghost Of A Trance [Hat Hut] featuring some great Phillip Wilson and William Parker on tuba.
  15. Grachan Moncur III - Evolution [Blue Note, EMI France/DMM] (sadly) every time I get this out I'm surprised to see Lee Morgan's name. I really should be used to it after twenty or so years
  16. I'd was tempted enough to do some research and a found at least one reference to questionable sound quality. Is this the case?
  17. Looks like you can't order direct from the label or Jackson'sown site. Only CD option is CDON who are always ridiculously expensive. I'll be waiting on an alternative source before I order

  19. Birthday greetings, belatedly. Hope the day was at the very least Near Mint
  20. Joshua Abrams - Magnetoception [Eremite]
  21. Joe McPhee - Graphics {Hat Hut]
  22. I love the idea that someone has a "Australian Jazz Orchestra" section in their collection.......can't be too many of them about outside the Antipodes. Full marks for such an eclectic taste Bev. I order mine strictly alphabetical (ex-librarian in me, I suspect) so my TUM releases don't huddle together like yours but I wish they did as they do look very nice like that. I also use the space saving sleeves and have found the only drawback is when I'm too greedy to space save and they get too squashed together which does then obscure the spine. But as Mjzee says above as their alphabetisized I always know where to look even if the spines aren't obvious
  23. Niels, the Chamber 4 is very good Just back from Honest Jons with Konstrukt & Akira Sakata - Kaishi, Live at Kargart [Holiday Records] Enrico Rava Quartet - Wild Dance [ECM] Lloyd McNeill - Tanner Suite [Universal Sound reissue]
