  1. Michelle Rosewoman - The Source [soul Note]
  2. Thanks. I think 'spoil' was my wrong choice really. There are some albums which just seem complete as they are on two sides of vinyl. The addition of extra music changes the listening experience inevitably. More isn't always better but I'll certainly take note that the extra material is worth hearing and will order accordingly
  3. Will do! Yes,a shame on two counts really. It would've been good to see NZ carry their run through to the final. It did all seem a bit of an anticlimax from this distance and as a neutral
  4. I have Oliv (CD) winging its way from Martin Davidson along with Monoceros. I have high expectations for both,! I don't think you'll be disappointed by Oliv. It's an extraordinary album. I'm torn as I love the LP version so much I'm unsure whether the extras on the CD will somehow spoil things. I know, I can't help it...... Monoceros, I must buy however
  5. There's a good Michelle Rosewoman leader date on Soul Note, 'The Source' with Baikida Carroll and Pheeroan Ak Laff. Mind you I've not listened to it in ages John Stevens - Spontaneous Music Ensemble [Polydor] aka Oliv.
  6. Always enjoy his contributions to Brass Fantasy
  7. Polar Bear - Same As You [Leaf] once again this 'Jazz' band produce an album of music that's not really jazz at all and sounds very modern.
  8. Shadow Vignettes - presents Birth of a Notion [sessoms Records]

    Anthony Braxton

good price but a partial set that'll only mean having to source that missing disc
  10. On that now. Always fond of a John Barleycorn - never fails to stir some longing for Olde England
  11. yes, especially for new stock etc but in London Flashback Records have just opened a third store selling secondhand vinyl and CDs but also with a noticeably larger new vinyl stock. Sure they're riding the vinyl wave which may well not last and their new shop's in Hipster Central but they do seem to have a model that's working now and has worked for over 20 years so far
  12. The rest of the album's rather good too. Spotify on a Renbourn Group loop at the moment There is just so much music out there to hear.......must get out of my jazz/improv bunker more often
  13. Bev, thank you. That is one of the most marvellous tracks I've heard for a very long time RIP indeed
  14. Absolutely. On my list, near the top
  15. Really like the work of Diebenkorn. that's there. Oddly that repro makes a greater three dimensional impact than the original did on the wall. Also I've just realised, by checking the catalogue, that it's 24 years since the Whitechapel....how time flies when you're having fun
  16. Diebenkorn at the RA in London. Sumptuous Not often I come away wishing the show was larger. Just three rooms. I'd been waiting nearly 20 years since the Whitechapel exhibition that introduced me to his work - it was great to be in a room with his work again
  17. I'll have to rescue my cassette deck from the back of the cupboard.....joking aside, I would like to hear the Golia music
  18. Arthur Blythe - Lennox Avenue Breakdown wake up CT!
  19. Lester Bowie - African Children [Horo] can't seem to leave AACM alone at the moment
  20. Art Ensemble of Chicago - Reese and the Smooth Ones [bYG/Actuel]
  21. Well done NZ. It was exciting enough listening on the radio from the other end of the planet. Heaven only knows what Eden Gardens must've been like. SA choke again! Now all we need is for the Black Caps to beat Aussie in the final. Come on NZ! edit to add: the less said about England's woeful and shameful 'appearance' the better Cheers man. I've seen NZ choke in that situation so many times and as the game went on i was getting more and more of a sinking feeling. The whole country is buzzing today, it's amazing how for better or worse a sporting event can affect the mood of a nation. My mum's partner used to be a stock broker and he said business was always affected the following week depending on whether the All Blacks won or lost. And yes, condolences about England. The current kiwi team is probably the best one day side we've ever fielded but we are well used to poor performances in previous years. I'm glad everyone's enjoying it so much I am of course hoping for a reversal of England/NZ fortunes come the Rugby World Cup Ha ha, ya never know! England are tough to beat, especially at home. And the ABs in the Rugby world cup have given us many classic examples of choking unfortunately. Almost always go in as favourites, have only won twice, both times at home. When we got knocked out by France in the cup before last, the scenes at work on the following monday were pretty hilarious actually. It was seriously like someone had died. I suspect home advantage is our only hope.....but hope we can. Let's start a thread (of two) come September

  23. Impulse buys - good all round! they all failed my 'do I have it on CD?' test which I reluctantly impose on myself occasionally..... Nice thick sleeves too on those originals. Enjoy them.
  24. More AACM thread inspired spinning 8 Bold Souls - s/t [sessoms Records] Ethnic Heritage Ensemble - Three Gentlemem from Chicago [Moers Music]
  25. That sounds very tough, sorry to hear that. I can empathise to a degree as I have a chronic health condition that also restricts my activity levels on a daily basis but not so much my Jazz purchasing levels (despite the consequent part-time salary) Hey, it's JHR list day
