  1. I like that one. His was impressive, as always, at the Brotzmann memorial gig
  2. Beware those "funky disco rock rhythms", death of real Jazz...
  3. Hiroshi Fukumara Quintet - Morning Flight [Three Blind Mice, Japan 1977 RE]
  4. I was and that duet was a very special start to a very special evening Plenty of posters available but McPhee was quite busy
  5. Decompressing from this. The finale was a large ensemble playing with Longberg-Holm's lightbox conduction Front line was Evan Parker, Joe McPhee, Zoh Amba, Ken Vandermark and Mats Gustafsson. I saw the Chicago Tentet at Oto ten years ago, this was up there with it as a listening experience The whole evening was very, very special. It started with McPhee/Adasiewicsz duet where Joe recited poetry rather than play sax. Unexpected but very special
  6. Charles Mingus - Mingus Takes Manhattan [New Land, UK 2024] Onto LP3
  7. Interestingly, or not, the Special Thanks in the booklet starts with Sue Mingus so maybe she was involved with the project And there's plenty available these days and not at mad prices the last I looked
  8. That's great news, instant purchase. I just read this which suggests there may be more releases to come, hope so "in 2024 they’ve partnered with The John & Alice Coltrane Home to launch the “Year of Alice;” described as a “year-long celebration of Alice Coltrane’s profound work.” They’re kicking things off with Alice Coltrane – The Carnegie Hall Concert
  9. Me too now 😀
  10. Thanks, sadly chronic condition so just have to live with it. Had plenty of practice.
  11. I bought the non-art edition and it's very good. That special edition does look nice though
  12. Wow, how did I miss that gig?
  13. Only the Saturday evening, boring health issues are restricting me otherwise I'd be camping there for the weekend
  14. Getting my labels mixed up here. Looks like this is on seriE Woc, an Italian label, not that that's making it any cheaper at £72 shipped!
  15. Looking forward to Saturday and this line up as part of Oto's memorial weekend for Peter Brotzmann - Joe McPhee / Jason Adasiewicz - Duo - Han Bennink / Pat Thomas - Duo - Joe McPhee / Paal Nilssen-Love - Duo - Paal Nilssen-Love / Ken Vandermark / Mats Gustafsson / Farida Amadou - Quartet - Caspar Brötzmann - Solo - Caspar Brötzmann / Farida Amadou - Duo - Large ensemble
  16. Cafe Oto are having a weekend of concerts, this weekend in memory of the great man with a pretty astonishing line up The concerts are being live streamed for anyone interested and too far away https://www.cafeoto.co.uk/events/3-days-of-music-dedicated-to-peter-brotzmann/
  17. plus $29.92 shipping to UK, ouch! They did a very good job on their previous Jamal reissue, will have to hope a few of the 500 make it over here
  18. I don't know this, should I? I'm intrigued by the EP reference
  19. Fair enough, I missed that bit. Better for everyone especially as it's available on streaming platforms too
  20. Overpriced vinyl only editions of live material already released caused outrage in the 'Mingus Takes Manhattan' thread, even when the sound quality was noticeably improved. I guess because this is not bootleg made official it's considered differently, more worthy less of a rip off. Or is it just the BN name... Still, pleased that this is being released Edit to add: I now realise it's getting CD release too so you can ignore this post. I'll not delete as it'll make a nonsense of @jazzbo's response below
  21. Having been blown away by Botofasina, Mercereau and Niño live I can imagine how good this might have been. I like the Andre album, it's a bit long, but glad it was made and good to see him leap some genre boundaries
