  1. Anthony Braxton - Five Pieces 1975 [Arista 1975] Companion piece, and the best Braxton cover picture which always makes me think of this cover You're right there but side one just explodes out of the blocks with such joie de vivre
  2. Yes, sorry... Meanwhile, playing now Anthony Braxton - New York, Fall 1974 [Arista, 1975] This is such a very great album, blew me away when I first heard it and it still sounds vital today. What a quartet.
  3. But some divergence is healthy, for instance I've never got on with Tyner's Milstones 😄
  4. That's good from memory
  5. Thanks T.D. I have the second but the first is new to me
  6. They sound great, which albums are they?
  7. There's this one which is very good https://www.discogs.com/master/346409-Hideo-Shiraki-Quintet-3-Koto-Girls-Sakura-Sakura And this, just outside your period https://www.discogs.com/master/799796-HinoKikuchi-Quintet-HinoKikuchi-Quintet
  8. This is referenced way up thread https://www.amazon.co.uk/Blue-Nippon-Authenticating-Jazz-Japan-ebook/dp/B00EDIWUF8 Looks interesting Edit to add: "usually despatched within 6 to 7 months" 😁
  9. The guilt, the guilt... This is just in your date range and it's on its way to me even before the your current intervention https://www.discogs.com/master/830694-Nobuo-Hara-His-Sharps-And-Flats-Meets-Hōzan-Yamamoto-New-Jazz-In-Japan-日本のニュージャズ Yes, that's very good. I picked up a copy soon after Rooster's recommendation
  10. I don't know the Yagi either and will look for it I fear the revival of this thread could get expensive...
  11. Online sources including Wikipedia entry and Gilles Peterson showing Julian Bahula died earlier this week. I remember Jabula Spear, his band with Dudu Pukwana and appearances at Anti-Apartheid rallies. Recently I'd discovered his work with Malombo Jazz and Malombo Jazz Makers through some excellent reissues https://youtu.be/273tcKjo_FM?feature=shared
  12. Nice one Berne used to be a regular visitor to the Vortex and I saw some great shows with various bands. Doesn't come over here now, like so many others.
  13. Brotzmann/Van Hove/Bennink - s/t [FMP, Germany 1973]
  14. Absolutely this, age too
  15. Primitive Community & Toshiaki Yokota - Primitive Community [Universal Music, 2023 RE]
  16. The Cassandra is a mystery to me, everything except the song titles is in Japanese. Only English language info I can find online is the Discogs entry. She's singing standards with a piano trio. I've always loved her voice since first hearing her in about '85 so this was a lovely surprise The Azamiah is a very pleasant Jazzy Soul album, very of today. Not earth shattering by any means but works as a nice diversion. From Scotland, part of that country's "Jazz" scene that's produced a couple of nice things recently Only three tracks or so in, so far very Irreversible Entanglements. They seem to have co-opted a pianist for some tunes. Possibly a bit tightened up, shorter tracks. Camae Ayewa still to full effect not offering anything much by way of lyrical compromise.
  17. Irreversible Entanglements - Protect Your Light [Impulse, 2023]
  18. Everytime you, and possibly @Pim, post that I think I must get a copy, so thinking that again now Meanwhile playing here, I only very recently discovered the existence of this early, possibly first, recording by Cassandra Wilson, so very pleased to get a copy Cassandra Wilson - New Yorker In A Sentimental Mood [JAL Strato Sound, Japan, 1985] And next Azamiah - In Phases [Rebecca's Records, 2023 UK]
  19. I bet that's a fabulous set. Savall is always worth close attention although I gave up trying to keep up
  20. That's very good
  21. Me too soon
  22. Great, thanks ever so much
  23. I suspect this just reflects Leo being an effectively one man show and a man who's retiring at that, not getting the US distribution sorted before releasing to us lucky UK folk
