  1. I've started streaming from the beginning and will listen over the rest of the week. I dipped into the first one and then forgot about the second completely. I'll be leaving with you at Geffen.
  2. That looks very interesting having checked the content. I see the series has reached 'Hissing...' which is where I really connect with her music
  3. Or a sign of just too many in a collection. It's all very competently played but just a little dull, no real edge to it. Occasionally the themes rescue it
  4. On Saft, you might try 'The New Jazz Standard' if you haven't already. With Steve Swallow and Previte Time to join in with the Book Of Angels listening Volume 12 Stolas, Masada Quintet featuring Joe Lovano 'Plays Masada Book Two' completely forgot I had this
  5. Singularity Codex, Matthew Shipp on RogueArt - @clifford_thornton This is very readable, about a third in. Great to hear the multiple voices tell the story
  6. Mike Osborne Quintet - Marcel's Muse [Ogun, UK 1977]
  7. That's a terrific album, glad the clouds parted for you. Sometimes it's just a matter of time, others it sneaks up I find
  8. Andrew Hill - But Not Farewell
  9. Yes, I'm very much enjoying my reacquaintance with it. It's interesting in that some of the sounds, like the synth, that might have made it sound dated 10 years ago now sound quite contemporary again. I'd not spotted the Hill connection but do hear what you're suggesting and Osby did play with him, I saw that band. The "irregular" funk and twinned horns make it err towards that M-base sound to my ears, of which I was a huge fan. Thanks for prompting me to revisit
  10. I used to have the LP and I'm not sure I do anymore. At the time it was a band a favourite players, especially Gary Thomas. How's it sounding today? Edit to add: found it in the "reserve collection" cupboard, now playing here too
  11. Maybe so but if you hadn't read that previous thread, as I hadn't then it's not that surprising. Not all of us read all the threads 😄
  12. Yes, that's what I suspect. She seems to have a fairly large discography Now onto Alvin Batiste - 'Bayou Magic' Excellent
  13. Doreen's Jazz New Orleans - Vol.V, Mama Don't Want I have no idea if this is a good example of NO jazz but I'm enjoying it especially the clarinet and tuba. Seems to have a number of the "hits" on it which makes me wonder what audience it's aimed at
  14. It's worth tracking down
  15. Cassandra Wilson - Newyorker In A Sentimental Mood [JAL Strato Sound, Japan 1985] Perfect for a sunny Sunday evening. Wondering if our other resident Cassandra fan @jazzbo knows this one? A recent discovery for me.
  16. I'm still to listen to 29! Will rectify that now
  17. Sorry, not for me @Pim mind you I did come to that conclusion about 20 years ago so maybe I should give it another try I know I'm in a very small minority but I find the Tyner Milestones lack light and shade, they are all a bit full on and overly robust, almost as if they're trying to prove something. But I should revisit. I saw him play a couple of times in the 90s in a trio and he was fabulous Edit to add: I do like Sama Layuca a lot
  18. Me too. Long time favourite
  19. I think it's pretty clear from the initial post onwards which John Marshall we're remembering with such affection. Only one played with Nucleus and Soft Machine after all
  20. Poetry to minimal Jazz backing, some percussion and sax. Works really well, enough music to make it not just poetry and enough poetry to command attention. Completely new to me, punt from HJ. Some short samples on their site And only 30 minutes long so doesn't overstay its welcome. There's another just been reissued which I may go for now
  21. Irreversible Entanglements - Protect The Light [Impulse, 2023]
  22. I had no idea that Chico's 'The Master' existed and then was very surprised to discover he's playing with Little Feat (who I liked a lot in my younger days) on it. Gave it some online sampling, still undecided
  23. Always fancied a copy of that one Here now Sarah Webster Fabio - Together To The Tune Of Coltrane's "Equinox" [Folkways Records, 2023 RE]
