  1. Just watched the first "portal". Interesting enough, a lot of Wayne talking which is good. Usual talking head format alongside still photos, cleverly intercut in places and, the increasingly present in these docs, animation. Really nice clip of older Blakey and Wayne
  2. Waiting for my LP...
  3. Yes, strictly CDs and downloads from them from now on It was actually a Harish Raghavan that your enthusiastic post about prompted the purchase. The album is good which was a consolation, delayed satisfaction
  4. I'm in the UK and my last order for an an stock Whirlwind LP title took 2 months! Their excuse was that they warehouse and ship from southern Europe where the extreme heat meant it wasn't safe to ship LPs. I called that the BS it most surely was
  5. Thanks. I shall trawl through the CD collection to find him, with Leandre is my first thought
  6. First listen to this new arrival. Purchased this week after a mention on a thread here. I can't remember where or who, possibly @JSngry, whoever it was, thank you. This is so up my street How's that? I have him playing on someone else's date somewhere and unless I can remember who that is I might not hear it again for a long time...I remember being impressed I really like the GinParis Session. I have the LP of the JoJo in the post to me at the moment
  7. The Michael Garrick Sextet with Norma Winstone - The Heart Is A Lotus [Argo, UK 1970]
  8. Yeah, it's been a good day off's listening. Funny you say that about the Boulez, I was just looking at a German press of it. It is good
  9. Yusef Lateef - Before Dawn [Verve, Japan 2007, mono]
  10. Today's selection, so far Carlos Nino & Friends - Extra Presence [IARC, 2022] Bitchin Bajas - Bajascillators [Drag City, 2022] Ustad Bismillah Khan - Shehnai [His Masters Voice, India 1969] Pierre Booulez - Le Marteau Sans Maitre [Turnabout] Free Improvisation [Deutsche Grammophon, 1974] LP1 New Phonic Art
  11. A career much more as a sideman than leader. Lovely player, he's still very much about. I used to see him regualrly in Kenny Wheeler bands. This is good from around that time, if I remember correctly and earlier. I'm sure @sidewinder will be able to provide a better overview
  12. And that was the quiet months!
  13. I still want to hear about it though. Does the Appleyard Percussive Jazz album fit into that criteria? I bought it recently partly reassured by your enthusiasm for it in historical posts here
  14. Yes, it soundtracked a lot of the work day. Murray has a special place in my Jazz heart, the first artist I got into in a big way and there was a lot to get into back then.
  15. I've listened to it all now. There's a lot of it but it's pretty uniformly good to my ears. Nice to hear Murray playing in this setting
  16. Thanks, I'll check them out
  17. Their other one is just as good
  18. I had no idea. 4LP set! I was at the London gig mentioned in the description I think.
  19. What poignancy Carmona's winner now has given the news of her father.
  20. Interesting, thanks. There's a live album that's on Tidal which first turned me onto them. I can imagine that they were impressive live
  21. Lovely listen. As for why 'Blue Monk' is interesting definition, raised a laugh
