I'm sorry, but I do not agree. I think it is up to the compiler to make her/his choices. No taste is broad enough that it cannot do with a little prodding it even wider by confronting it with new things outside of it. Just another opinion...

I have my own trusty design and simply type the stuff up in MSExcell. One file holds simple listings of disks and another one (linked through a common number to the first file) lists recording date, personnel, and whatnot. Sometimes I download song listings from AMG (good with large boxed sets). Otherwise it gives me something to do on long winter nights.

this is the Red, Blue & Green disk, yes?

I had a tune in my head while making this one, that may explain the "sweet touch" You know, FZ's Stick it Out (Aber beklecker nicht das Sofa, Sofa! )

maybe our Moose can explain these...

Remember that this little piece of fun costs money once you're on the giving end. It may just be that people don't see it as an honour to compile the disk, but more as a duty. I myself certainly feel some of the latter. Though I certainly also and moreso see it as a great opportunity to confront people here with my choice of music. I am not saying (nor would I want to infer) that many/most participants are free-riders, it's just that money and effort seem of little importance when they lay somewhere ahead of us in the future. Knowing exactly which day you're gonna have to be there puts another spin on it. I will want to jump in real soon, my monetary situation has not be improving lately -- to put it eupemistically -- and if I don't do this soon, I cannot foresee when I will.

I've recently been playing AEC-Theme de Yoyo VERY LOUD

I also did a version of Jackie's Bag, but it is WAY TOO BIG to post here. I have already thrown some frames out (records spins no longer ) and reduced contrast and whatnot but to no avail. So here's a 200x200 version: click (390 Kb)

idea came from Big Al: Big one: click here (210 Kb)

uhm, Chuck, how is it going with the Townhall Gillespie Quintet release? You mentioned it would still take about half a year in July. Does that schedule still stand?

Larry wants one too! But they keep turning him down and he feels like he's running in circles...

re: the completeness of these sessions: I don't know; Michael, do you? grab the ASiP disks ASAP Ubu!

zweitauseneins.de has some of these and others at low prices (MORTON' FOOT 14,99 EUR, BLUE CAMEL 7,99 EUR, TARAB 7,99 EUR, BETWEEN DUSK AND DAWN 7.99 EUR). I would offer to order them for you and send them on in trade of other disks, but I am afraid my wife would not be very happy after I already placed two substantial orders there the past couple of weeks. Maybe another boardmember is willing to help you out.

I wanted to add to Clunky's discographical info that these Americans Swinging in Paris disks are yet readily available at least over here in Europe; it seems they're running low in the US though (but I wouldn't really know where to check). The Clarke is finished off with a couple of 4 4tet tracks featuring the Fol brothers and Michelot and 3 tracks with a large group of french players (so no Lucky T on these). The Lucky Thompson disk has following tracks (sorry, no info on the original releases here, I'd have to check with the disk in hand) 1956.02.22. Eli "Lucky" Thompson, ts, arr; Henri Renaud, p (out on 1); Emmett Berry, tp; Benoît Quersin, b; Gérard "Dave" Pochonet, ds; 1 Thin ice (E. Thompson) 2 A minor delight (E. Thompson) 3 Takin' care 'n business (E. Thompson-E. Berry) 4 Ballad Medley: Sophisticated Lady-These foolish things (Ellington-Mills-Parrish/Link-Strachey-Maschwitz) 5 One cool night (E. Thompson-E. Berry) 1956.03.27. Eli "Lucky" Thompson, ts; Jean Pierre Sasson, g; Paul Rovière, b; Gérard "Dave" Pochonet, ds; 6 You are my dream (J.P. Sasson) 7 Lucky strikes (J.P. Sasson) 8 My love supreme (J.P. Sasson) 1956.04.05. Eli "Lucky" Thompson, ts; Martial Solal, p; Guy Lafitte, ts; Benoît Quersin, b; Roger Paraboschi, ds; 9 Passin' time (E. Thompson) 10 Nothin' but the soul (E. Thompson) 11 Why weep? (E. Thompson) 12 To a mornin' sunrise (E. Thompson) 1956.04.20. Eli "Lucky" Thompson, ts; Martial Solal, p; Benoît Quersin, b; Roger Paraboschi, ds; 13 You move you lose (E. Thompson) 14 Velvet rain (E. Thompson) 15 One last goodbye (E. Thompson) 1956.02.22. Eli "Lucky" Thompson, ts, arr; Benoît Quersin, b; Gérard "Dave" Pochonet, ds; 16 Thin ice (E. Thompson) 17 Takin' care 'n business (E. Thompson-E. Berry) 18 One cool night (E. Thompson-E. Berry)

Volume 4 is rather erratic, but there's some real good stuff on there. Notably the De Villers tracks are great.
