i´m totally !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! for years there were rumours about this collection. (imagine, the randall islans open air concert). was bill savory the husband of helen ward? (i´m not at home to confirm it). there was a few years ago a sell on ebay with a few books from the ward/savory estate and they described that the recording collection was lost. (maybe my recollections are wrong...) this is one of the greatest finds in recent years (and it can be compared with the bird/dizzy town hall concert 1945 or the lester young jam session (still unissued)). put bill savory together with jerry newman, bob andrews, boris rose and timme rosencrantz! they all captured great music for the future. hope this collection will go published!!! keep boppin´ marcel

mmilovan, look for post #110 in this topic. there is the information larry appelbaum gave me in 2007. the jam session was a good filler for the "storyville" d-cd "100 yeaes - forever young". but this was not the case...(i think it has something to do with copyright). keep boppin´ marcel

Of course it is. Look under "Hasselgard movie". yes, the documentary "hasselgard story" by jonas sima is very good. i have it on vhs but it´s now out also on dvd. a very touching movie. including the only known footage of hasselgard! sima is searching for june eckstine (who drove the car during the fatal accident) but she don´t want talk to him. (btw. bob redcross, yes t h i s bob redcross was on the back seat and is also interviewed). a great film! keep boppin´ marcel

for me, it´s a must to buy: i have never heard the first four tracks and need the last two. (i think they are the capitol alternates with red norvo). in between are the jubilee´s. i suppose the sound quality is very good. and dragon is a label that always wake up my interest. the hasselgard releases from them on lp and cd are always high quality issues. good liner notes and accurate. here is a fine stan hasselgard tribute site with discography: http://sites.google.com/site/stanhasselgard/ keep boppin´ marcel

just learned from the dragon records homepage that there is a new release with stan hasselgard´s california records (including a few unissued tracks-one with hasselgard singing!!!!!!) here is the link: http://www.dragonrecords.se/news.htm keep boppin´ marcel

here are informations via the fats waller yahoo group: "This double CD is Fuel (Varèse Sarabande) 3020618262 "Fats Waller Performance, Radio Recordings from 1931 to 1943" (issued 2010), and is a re-issue of an earlier Fuel double CD 30206142622 from around 2004 with four additional tracks, making 36-tracks in total. However, the liner notes are the same and refers to 32 tracks !! Of course, there are no radio air-checks from 1931, or any commercial recordings from that year. The recordings are from 1934 to 1943 and have all been issued before. It's just a random selection of tracks without any rhyme or reason. Since the liner notes do not give the recording details, I lit them as follows: CD #1 1. The Sheik of Araby (NBC broadcast 5 July 1938). 2. Honeysuckle Rose #2 (Associated transcription 7/8/1939). 3. Viper's Drag (Associated trabscription 11/3/1935). 4. I'm Crazy 'Bout My Baby (as 3) 5. After You've Gone #1 (as 2). 6. You're Slightly Less Than Wonderful (V-Disc, 16/9/1943). 7. Sweet Sue, Just You (as 3). 8. Alligator Crawl (as 3). 9. The Moon Is Low #1 (as 2). 10. Lonesome Me (as 2). 11. St. Louis Blues (as 2). 12. Tea For Two (as 2). 13. My Fate Is In Your Hands (as 3). 14. When You And I Were Young, Maggie (Lang-Worth transcription 20/11/1939). 15. Hallelujah (as 2). 16. I Had To Do It (Yacht Club, 18/10/1938). 17. Flat Foot Floogie (Yacht Club, 14/10/1938). 18. Ain't Misbehavin' (as 2). CD #2 1. I Simply Adore You (NBC broadcast, 5/7/38). 2. Handful Of Keys (as 1, CD#2). 3. Honolulu Bundle (Panther Room broadcast, 27/12/1940). 4. Whatcha Know Joe? (as 3, CD#2). 5. Oh Susanna (as 14, CD#1). 6. E Flat Blues (as 2, CD#1). 7. The Spider And The Fly (as 2, CD#1). 8. Waller Jive (as 6, CD#1). 9. I've Got A Feeling I'm Falling (as 3, CD#1). Also inc. 'My Fate Is In Your Hands', and 'Ain't Misbehavin''. 10. I Wish I Were Twins (Commercial issue, Mx 82527-1, 16/5/1934). 11. Baby Brown (as 3, CD#1). 12. How Can You Face Me (as 3, CD#1). 13. Don't Let It Bother You (as 3, CD#1). 14. California Here I Come (as 3, CD#1). 15. The Joint Is Jumping (Commercial issue, Mx 014646-1, 7/10/1937). 16. Your Feets Too Big (Commercial issue, Mx 043348-1, 3/11/1939). 17. This Is So Nice It Must Be Illegal (as 6, CD#1). 18. Dark Eyes (Panther Room broadcast, 28/12/40, issued on CD with incorrect date of 3/12/1940)." keep boppin´ marcel

i just heard the new "storyville" d-cd "lester young 100 years-forever young" with four unissued sessions. two tracks from birdland 15. april 1953 (lob/up and at´em and too marvellous for words) -the track identification in the liners is wrong!- with his working group (drakes, silver, skeets, kay). six (in fact five) tracks from storyville, boston 15. december 1953 (lob; just you, just me; papermoon; announcement; waterfront; up and at´em) with drakes, mahones, henry, kay. three tracks from théatre des arts, paris, 01. november 1956 (3 little words; waterfront; d.b. blues) with urtreger, michelot, garros. three tracks from kongresshaus zürich, switzerland, 19. november 1956 (moonbeams; 3 little words; lester leaps in) with the same rhythm section as before. the fourth track (lady be good) from this concert is with miles davis and was issued before. the rest is not new: birdland, may 19, 1951 birdland, august 15, 1956 olivia´s pato lounge, washington, december 8, 1956 (the four tracks with earl swope) café bohemia, december 15 and 22, 1956 (missing is the presentation of the musicians´ musician poll award by leonard feather to lester young). it´s mentioned in the liner notes but not on the disc) the only issue of the presentation is (to my knowlegde) the jass-cd "prez conference". liner notes are by frank büchmann-möller, so i think the dates are correct. it´s only a pity that the library of congress recordings of the lester young jam from dec. 29, 1940 are still unissued. keep boppin´ marcel

to answer my own questions: yes, it´s on the "rlr" label and there is nothing new on it. as a bonus there are the soundtracks of three tv-broadcast with bird on it. october 50: "broadway open house" (available only on philology) with milton delug, accordeon. from march 49 "adventures in jazz" with miles, max kaminsky, kai winding, will bradley, joe marsala, mike caluccio, joe sullivan, max roach, specs powell. (formerly on stash and philology). february 49 (metronome award show of 1948) with shorty sherock, sidney bechet, joe bushkin, chubby jackson and george wettling. and the "lady bird" from november 1950 (also from paris) with maurice mouflard (only one "f" in his name!) and his orchestra when bird came back from sweden. let´s see if they have the long version of the "blues finale" on it. this is superb music and rare!! keep boppin´ marcel

is this one of the labels from andora? so there must be 15 tracks from salle pleyel, paris and 8 from roubaix. i don´t think that there is something new and unissued and i suppose that the sound is not better than all other issues (spotlite, philology, bird box and some others). the only source for new material (or better sound) is the ina archive. but so far there is nothing on their site from the jazz festival 1949. keep boppin´ marcel
