  8. this is important for all european members of organissimo: The disastrous Directive to extend the term of copyright protection for sound recordings to 70 years is back on the European Council's agenda. The FT called the proposal 'disgraceful' in an editorial in 2009. The evidence says the move is unwise. Yet without action it looks like the plans will soon become law. The economic evidence is stacked against the proposal. it will benefit only a small number of artists and businesses. Leading IP professors, the UK government's 'Gowers Review' of IP, and independent analysts commissioned by the EU have all said that extending the copyright term is unwise. It will result in large parts of our cultural history being locked up. This is a dreadful idea that will damage our cultural realm for the benefit of a vanishingly small number of people. For more go to http://www.cippm.org.uk/copyright_term.html If you are interested in opposing this nonsense action write to your Member of European Parliament. Go to the following link, and send it off. All you have to do is to add your name and address to the prepared letter. It's important to do so! http://action.openrightsgroup.org/ea-campaign/clientcampaign.do?ea.client.id=1422&ea.campaign.id=10257 sad, very sad... keep boppin´ marcel

  11. in leonard feather´s own book: "the jazz years, earwitness to an era" (new york, 1987) is on page 302 under honours and awards this entry: "1971 nominated for emmy award for producing "the jazz show", a series seen on knbc, los angeles". so is "knbc" another broadcasting company than "nbc"? nothing more in his book about this tv-show. (i did only a quick look but found nothing, sorry) keep boppin´ marcel

  18. no, there is no footage of charlie parker together with lester young. the film you mean is norman granz´ promotion film "improvisation" from his j.a.t.p. group in the fall of 1950. prez is on two numbers, "pennies from heaven" and "blues (up-tempo)" together with harry edison, bill harris, flip phillips, hank jones, ray brown, buddy rich and ella fitzgerald. this movie forms a whole with a performance of coleman hawkins and bird with jones, brown and rich (at gjon mili´s not sound proofed photo studio), playing "ballade" and "celebrity". but prez and bird together on film, unfortunately not! (and i don´t know what 52 seconds means the other). the other with sound is the famous "hot house" with dizzy. and than there is only one more silent from sweden, november 21. 1950. keep boppin´ marcel
  19. this is a good sampler of bird material for people who doesn´t have much of bird´s music. the booklets are always excelent and i suppose that the sound is the best as possible. frémeaux & associés are always high quality! in this second volume is (for me) a highlight: the wonderful live recording of dizzy and bird from billy berg´s 1945. (and i don´t mean the jubilee performances that sometimes labeled as from billy berg´s!). in "52nd street theme" bird quotes at 0:58 "sly mongoose" (imagine: seven years before the other only known recording of that tune with him!) and at 1:12 "tico tico"! he plays very strong and with "verve" on this amazing, astonishing, historic live recordings. and to my knowledge this recording was first on one of phil schaaps "bird flight" broadcasts, than trading in collector´s circles, later on "philology", bird´s eyes vol. 73, later on one of the andorra labels and now here. so this is rare!this are for me one of bird´s best recordings!!! here are bird and diz at billy berg´s at the time of the recording!! keep boppin´ marcel
  20. also this year, a happy birthday, free for all! keep boppin´ marcel
