Question: What's black, white and red ... and can't walk through revolving doors? Answer: A nun with a spear through her head.

I'm looking any releases by Ronnell Bright as a leader. PM me if you have any. I don't have any trade offers, but I can, err, "reproduce" lots of stuff. PM me about price etc. or other offers. Cheers!

This board is getting to be too expensive for me. Just placed my order for the Mitchell. I had the JJ box in my cart but removed it again ... will wait until it pops up on the Last Chance page ... and then pounce on it. Cheers!

After I sent another mail to Corbis asking politely for another go at it, I actually got a reply from a nice guy. It turns out that Corbis only has one image which is not available because of legal issues. Currently the man is checking if there are any images in the BETTMANN collection. I'll keep you posted. Cheers!

I wrote to the German branch to find out if they have the rights. If they do, I think I'll try to propose a reissue project to some of the better publishers. I didn't mean Taschen, but they are certainly also a publisher I would write to. I was thinking of Nieswand, a small publisher who published Claxography, Pieces of Jazz by Karl-Heinz Schmitt and several other wonderful books. But there, are many other publishers one could contact about something like that. I have no idea what the commercial feasability is, but it can't hurt to try. Cheers!

Swedes have more and more animal sex
neveronfriday replied to BERIGAN's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Sorry, but your assumption is wrong. That was a cow that had taken the ferry to Denmark to get drunk on some much cheaper and readily available booze. Cheers! Note: It was indestinguishable from the other drunk Swedes loitering about Copenhagen (which is pretty much the case all year round). The only defining characteristic was probably that the cow was unable to pull a trolley with several crates of beer around, as the Swedes often do. Makes them easy targets and much more fun to play with ... -
What a wonderful ( ) deal! As I'm sure that no one member could afford the $50k opening bid, what say we pool our resources? $50,000 % 600 = $83.34 each. (That'll give us a $4 buffer.) I really think this collection (?) should be a part of the Organissimo Music Library... someday to be housed in my apartment. Are we together on this? Well? ARE WE?! Count me in ... ... but only if we get lots and lots of "ablums".

Same here, almost. I grew up with Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller, Lionel Hampton etc., plus some more "relaxed" bebop and west coast sides my dad had in his collection. I loved the music then and I love it now. Inbetween, say for 20 years or so, I went elsewhere. My musical taste changed again and again - from rock to punk to heavy metal to fusion to classical and then every which way - and I ended up again where I started. It was only a few years ago I slowly started buying reissues of classic jazz albums again, and the more I buy, the more intriguing it gets. I still listen to the other couple of thousand CDs I have, but today jazz simply gives me more pleasure ... the same way the other music did whenever it happened to be hip with me. Cheers!

I got my copy of the Ellington Reprise (German edition: "Spiegel Edition") from Zweitausendeins today and I'm simply stunned by the fabulous sound quality of these recordings. I'd have to think quite far back to remember a CD or box set which had me virtually glued to my speakers for almost an entire day. A perfect example of a set with superior music AND sound! Wonderful. Cheers!

has the board been runnin' ssssllllooooowww
neveronfriday replied to Soulstation1's topic in Forums Discussion
Yes, also for me this site has been running at about 1/2 speed for two days or more now. And, b3-er, we've talked about donations before elsewhere on this board. Most of us would not mind AT ALL to donate some cash to get this up to speed again. Why not consider going this way? Get your own server, ask for donations to meet the fee and off we go. $80 or thereabouts you'd have together in a split second. Cheers! -
Hi everyone, the other day I came across an as-new copy of Reiff, Carole. "Nights in Birdland. Jazz Photographs 1954 - 1960. Fireside/Simon & Schuster, Inc., New York 1987" It also contains an essay by Jack Kerouac, "The Beginning of Bop" (from: Escapade, April 1959). I have quite a few books with jazz photographs, but I had never come across Carole Reiff besides seeing the odd poster reprint (the most-known one, I think, is the one of Chet Baker on-stage at Birdland) on various sites. I also think Lee Tanner included some rarer photos by Reiff in some book, but I'm too lazy to check now. Does anyone have more extensive info on her? Apparently she died very young? Cheers! P.S.: The photos in the above-mentioned book are far better than the two generic ones below!

Sorry, mate! I asked another person to jump in on the second set. When the auctions were done, I felt like those people in the eBay commercials, Becker fist and all. Peace! Cheers! -

Well, no luck so far. On any of the forums (or I'm too dumb to search). Well, I'll wait until the boxes get here. Most of the booklet stuff is in Japanese, but I'll have a closer look and I will post here what I can gather from the notes when the time comes. Cheers! -

Thanks for the info. I didn't start a thread, but I'll start searching on the forums. All I know about these boxes is (if it is true), that they were only put out for the Japanese marked? I'll see what else I can find out. If anyone else has more details, please don't hesitate to post them here. Cheers! -
I have to completely disagree here. That is simply not true. ´Neither the amp nor the speakers can improve the source material the playyer serves up. That's, if at all, a common misconception. Then again, the quality of CD players today is almost uniformly good, and you can't go very wrong with a cheaper model. I have two more expensive ones, and I would like to take up the challenge WNMC proposed: you CAN and DO hear a difference when swapping players of varying quality on a decent amp/speaker system. Without a problem, I might add. Cheers! P.S.: Re your problem: From what you answered so far, I would think some mechanical part is shot to hell. The same happend to an old Philips player I had ... I did open it with a friend who knos his way around and he advised not to get it fixed ... in my case the tracking was off.

Hi everyone, I need some help here. On a whim, I bought two CD boxes (mono recordings; Capitol Japan) on ebay.de I thought they might be good compilations to have flying around at home.
