  1. ...I once dated a girl with a unibroue!
  2. This is a pictures of my kids (and my two nephews) about 3 years ago in Austin.
  3. Not that it changes anything, but it does appear that Sloan was fouled on that last drive. Maybe the resulting free throws would have tied the game and forced overtime, but it doesn't matter I guess. The first picture below is from the LA Times, who also acknowledge that it looked like a clear foul. edit - I've read that the NCAA took away that last slam dunk bucket from UCLA today. So the final was 51-49. Good luck to the Bruins the rest of the way. I think this may turn out to have been their toughest test.
  4. Thanks, Edward. Very nice comeback by the Bruins. A&M basically stopped scoring for a while there in the 2nd half. Credit to the Bruin defense. I think that Sloan got fouled on that final drive to the basket, but I'm seeing it through biased eyes right now. The Bruins coach emphatically said it was a clean block, but I don't know. A&M will probably lose Deandre Jordan, the big 7 foot freshman who's mostly lost out there. He's a dunker and that's about it, but he'll be a top 5 draft pick anyway, because he's big. They're also losing seniors Joe Jones, Dominique Kirk, and backup Beau Muhlbach. They've got a good core coming back though (Sloan, Roland, Carter, Davis, Elonu), so I think they'll be ok next year.
  5. Up for SS1... Iron Maiden are touring right now (with an all 80's setlist apparently), and flying their own customized plane from city to city. In fact, lead singer Bruce Dickinson is the pilot! Check out the plane in Toronto last weekend.
  6. Hi Gregg - I'm guessing you probably already know about the Big John Patton album that is dedicated to your father, "This One's for JA": Some mention of this album in the John Patton thread. Also, Woody Shaw gives credit to Jimmy: "I'm about 16 now. I'm growing up. I run into musicians like Buddy Terry and Art Williams. Art Williams, who later passed away, took an interest in me. He was a bassist and used to play in different spots around Newark. There was another gentleman by the name of Jimmy Anderson who taught me about chords. When I was about 16 or 17 he said, "Well, you've got to learn piano." So I started working on piano. In the process I discovered I had perfect pitch. At this point I was thoroughly engulfed in music and really into Lee Morgan even more than Clifford Brown. To me, nobody played better than Lee Morgan. I was also into Donald Byrd. Dizzy, of course, had always been my man. I was also starting to discover people like Clark Terry and Maynard Ferguson."
  7. A&M held off BYU last night, so they're advancing to play #1 UCLA tomorrow night. Nice for UCLA to have basically a home game there in Anaheim! Not like they need it, but still - I wish my team had the home court advantage for this game! IMO, A&M has the talent to compete with UCLA, if they put it together and play a good game (and hit their outside shots). The Aggies played a good game against the Bruins last year, losing 65-62 at UCLA. Though Aaron Afflalo and Acie Law are both obviously gone now. I wonder if Billy Gillispie was mad when his Kentucky team lost yesterday on the same court, while the team he abandoned won...
  8. Prose worthy of Sammy Hagar. "Only time will tell if we stand the test of time" It took you three weeks to get that?
  9. Very funny pics, though I don't think they're all necessarily from Africa. I've seen that "SOTP" one a number of times, in different contexts.
  10. Congrats on the upcoming baby from here too!! Uncle Aggie would be proud to share a birthdate with an Organissimo Jr! Very much looking forward to the new recording as well. Can we pre-pay for signed copies again, or at least to help offset the recording/production expenses?
  11. Late to the party, but Happy Birthday!!!
  12. Denver scored 168 points against the Sonics tonight. :rsly: Makes me wonder what the record is for most points scored. Wow...
  13. Printable Tourney Bracket #8 Texas A&M starts off in the West, vs #9 BYU. They acquitted themselves pretty well yesterday against Kansas (and previously vs Iowa State and K-State), so hopefully they'll carry some momentum into the NCAA tournament.
  14. Come back and chat some more, lubbee and Sam Sherry. Curious first posts.
  15. Have a gr8 time!!!
  16. Happy Birthday!!
  17. Don't anyone tell Free about Castle Wolfenstein, he'll be hooked!!
  18. Yeah, I thought of that too, Moose. Actually, my bigger regret is spending a very large chunk of money on the down payment for our house and furniture to fill it. Sure, we settled and I got some money back, but nowhere near what I put into it, and she's in the house. It's going to be a long time (if ever) that I can afford to buy a house again (much less find someone to share it with!). I feel pretty foolish about that. I don't know if I'd qualify that as a dumb purchase - either the ring or the house. Wouldn't you say that at the time it was the right thing to do, and only in hindsight, after the relationship soured, did your view of it change. I think that's more a change of opinion of the relationship, than something you bought for or with your partner. At least in my case. My ex has our old house (paid for with my downpayment money), and pretty much all of our furniture (some of which is antique, and some very nice persian carpets we got in Europe) that we bought together. But I feel more regret that the relationship didn't work out, than upset about anything we bought when we were together. And even then, the regret is more because of the hurt that it caused (and probably continues to cause) my children, than anything it's done to me or the ex.
  19. novelty headphone stand? You could maybe put it up in a tree to scare off birds. I did that with an owl statue, but it would be cooler to have Cornelius up there.
  20. Student loans were going to help bankroll this league?
  21. Update from my local rag: Boyfriend: Woman felt safe in bathroom for years Associated Press Originally published 09:16 a.m., March 13, 2008 A 35-year-old woman who sat on her boyfriend's toilet for so long that her body was stuck to the seat by the time he called police had a phobia about leaving the bathroom, the boyfriend said. "She is an adult; she made her own decision," said her boyfriend, Kory McFarren. "I should have gotten help for her sooner; I admit that. But after a while, you kind of get used to it." The case drew nationwide attention after Ness County Sheriff Bryan Whipple said it appeared the Ness City woman's skin had grown around the seat in the two years she apparently was in the bathroom. "We pried the toilet seat off with a pry bar and the seat went with her to the hospital," Whipple said. "The hospital removed it." McFarren, 36, said he can't be certain how long Pam Babcock stayed in the bathroom because "time just went by so quick I can't pinpoint how long." He said beatings she received in her childhood caused her phobia. "It just kind of happened one day; she went in and had been in there a little while, the next time it was a little longer. Then she got it in her head she was going to stay like it was a safe place for her," McFarren said. But McFarren said she moved around in the bathroom during that time, bathed and changed into the clothes he brought her. He brought food and water to her. They had conversations and had an otherwise normal relationship except it all happened in the bathroom. McFarren said he finally called police Feb. 27 after he became worried because Babcock was acting groggy like she didn't know what was going on, except she was awake. What emergency responders found when they went into bathroom has left residents of this small western Kansas town buzzing, and law enforcement officials incredulous. Police found the clothed woman sitting on the toilet, her sweat pants down to mid-thigh. She was "somewhat disoriented," and her legs looked like they had atrophied, Whipple said. "She was not glued. She was not tied. She was just physically stuck by her body," Whipple said. "It is hard to imagine. ... I still have a hard time imagining it myself." She initially refused emergency medical services, but was finally convinced by responders and her boyfriend that she needed to be checked out at a hospital. "She said that she didn't need any help, that she was OK and did not want to leave," he said. Whipple said the county attorney will determine whether any charges should be filed against McFarren. McFarren, who works at an antique store, said he has been taking care of Babcock for the 16 years they have lived together. He insisted that he tried to coax her out of the bathroom every day. "And her reply would be, `Maybe tomorrow,"' Whipple said. "According to him, she did not want to leave the bathroom." She was reported in fair condition Wednesday at a hospital in Wichita, about 150 miles southeast of Ness City. Whipple said she has refused to cooperate with medical providers or law enforcement investigators. Babcock has an infection in her legs that has damaged her nerves, and there is a possibility she may wind up in a wheelchair, McFarren said. James Ellis, a neighbor, said he had known the woman since she was a child, but that he had not seen her for at least six years. "I don't think anybody can make any sense out of it," Ellis said. Babcock had a tough childhood after her mother died at a young age and apparently was usually kept inside the house as she grew up, he said. "It really doesn't surprise me," Ellis said. "What surprises me is somebody wasn't called in a bit earlier."
  22. Al - Save yourself the postage and just tear it up, that's fine with me. Thanks again for the effort! PS - If you were Ron, I'd make you send the check back, just to be safe.
  23. Is Paps R Us a mass-market gynecologist?
  24. Now that is so much bullshit right there. A critic only has has much "power" as people let them have. And looking at the history of jazz, I think that overall, people go with what they like, not what they're "told" is good. Seeing as how Hamilton, Vache, etc. seem to be doing just fine in terms of their career - by your own declaration - I don't see how Larry's opinion is wielding any adverse "power" in this regard. I mean hell, look at all the "critical darlings" who can't get a gig, and look at all the folks that "the critics" hate who are living just fine, thank you. Yet again, people who disagree are stigmatized as "irresponsible" or otherwise derelict in some form or fashion, and reality is attempted to be remade into the image of opinion. That kind of shit gives me the willies. You must be drunk.
