And Behind Door No. 1, a Fatal Flaw
Aggie87 replied to Brownian Motion's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I understand what both of you are saying, and appreciate the descriptions. But if you KNOW up front that Monty is going to open a door with a goat behind it, then you know that one (goat) door will be eliminated no matter what you pick. Which means that you are really picking one of two doors in the first place, right? Because you KNOW that your choice is going to come down to the door you pick and one other - not two others. And if you are picking one of two, don't you have a 50/50 chance from the outset? Hmmm. -

I don't follow the logic in changing doors. Initially you have a 1 in 3 chance of picking the door with the car behind it. You pick a door. Then Monty opens one of the other doors to show a goat. Now it's a new ball game, and what happened before is basically irrelevant. There are two doors left, one of which has a car behind it. Monty is giving you a choice between the two doors. You can either keep the door you initially picked, or go with the other. Doesn't that therefore mean there is a 50/50 chance that the car is behind the door you selected - regardless when you picked that door? And there's also a 50/50 chance it's behind the other door. If that's the case, it should make no difference in odds whether you keep your original door or pick the other one. -
thank u guys

You should talk to a lawyer about this, seriously. Didn't Aric go to school to be a lawyer in the first place? -

In addition to the recently released "Pacific Codex", SW has another Bass Communion release due this summer, titled "Molotov and Haze". Fans of Fripp's soundscapes would enjoy Bass Communion, I think. Wow, what a GREAT championship game! A game that lived up to the hype, which doesn't happen all that often. Congrats to the Jayhawks and their fans for an amazing comeback at the end of regulation, when it looked like Memphis was well on it's way to the title. Chalmers was as cool as the other side of the pillow (sorry, Stuart Scott!) making that game tying shot. I bet the Tigers are still in shock - you could tell they were dazed in OT, and at a major loss without Dorsey on the court, after he picked up that silly foul.

The culture in those countries is completely different than ours to start with though. I think gun control there is just a symptom of a society that accept and obeys the rules it has in place, moreso than here in the U.S. Northern European countries are generally more homogeneous populations than in the U.S. I think U.S. culture, individual means, lifestyles, and just society in general are much more diverse than in the places you're comparing the U.S. to. Not to mention those are generally socialist countries, comparatively. Not sure if that is part of the difference or just a coincidence. -
Keep biting them! The ones that have something to add will stick around, while the floggers can flog off.

If by points u mean bullets, I wouldn't go more than 4 per slide. Charts with 5+ bullets lose their impact, IMO.

MLB has been promoting itself in Japan for decades. I went to see the Mets in 1974 play a team of Japanese All-stars in Korakuen Stadium in Tokyo. It was preceded by the famous Hank Aaron/Sadaharu Oh home run hitting contest. Yogi Berra upon arrival in Japan, Oct 74: Tom Seaver & Joe Torre: Hank Aaron in the HR contest:

Speaking from my own experiences, flying westbound to another continent (or at least several time zones) has always been alot easier than flying eastbound. Maybe it's the timing of flights and when you actually arrive at your destination though, and whether you have to stay awake alot of extra hours or not. Sleeping on planes for me hasn't seemed to help adjust time zones in general.

I didn't see it, but if it's a modern pop group, it wouldn't surprise me. You remember Ashlee Simpson's famous lip sync hoe down episode on SNL a couple of years ago. I'd bet the majority of the younger, less talented pop musicians do it.

Never heard of this!!!! Anyone know anything about it? MG I wasn't aware of it either. According to this, it's a John Zorn produced date, and Patton appears on one track, with Marc Ribot, Jeff Hirshfeld, and Koichi.

I know what you mean! I remember how popular Cruz was back in the old Glenn Davis/Mike Scott/Nolan Ryan/Phil Garner era. Cruz is the Astros' 1st Base Coach now, so it was kinda neat to see them together when Cruz Jr. got a hit and was at 1st.

This looks like it might be interesting. From DGM Live - "The new album by Travis & Fripp entitled "Thread" has been mixed and mastered though no release date has been finalised yet. The track listing is as follows: 1. Land beyond the forest (4.23) 2. The apparent chaos of blue (8.50) 3. As snow falls (14.00) 4. Before then (6.22) 5. One whirl (2.39) 6. The silence beneath (8.36) 7. Curious liquids (3.14) 8. The unspoken (5.22) 9. Pastorale (10.40) Theo travis – alto flute, soprano sax Robert fripp – guitar All tracks composed and arranged by Theo Travis & Robert Fripp Recorded by David Singleton at DGM Soundworld, Wiltshire on 5 January 2007. Editing, treatments and mix by Steven Wilson at no mans land on 6 September 2007 and 22 January 2008. Mastered by steven wilson at no mans land" I'm guessing this will be soundscape-y.

Nice first-win for the Astros last night at the Padres. Down 6-5 in the 9th, 2 out. Jose Cruz Jr. draws a leadoff walk against Trevor Hoffmann after working a full count. Then Michael Bourn singles, followed by Hunter Pence. Pence's hit scored Cruz to tie it. Then Lance Berkman (who had struck out against Hoffmann the night before to end the game) drove a 3-1 pitch over the fence in center field, for a 9-6 lead and win. I think the Astros have the makings of a powerhouse offense - Bourn, Pence, Berkman, Lee, Tejada, Loretta/Blum, Wigginton, Toles/Ausmus is a pretty decent set of hitters. Problem is their starting pitching is pretty weak overall.... or at least suspect at this point. We'll see how that translates in the standings, but they're gonna have to win a bunch of 7-5, 8-6 type of games it looks like.

How do you put pictures in your posts
Aggie87 replied to Van Basten II's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Can you post an address please, Chris? I have been using Image Shack, but you only get a measly thumb on the face of the board - though you can click and get it full size. MG I think if you are on the imageshack website, and you click on the picture, it will expand to full size (?). Once you have a large picture, right click on it, and it will give you the URL link that you can paste here for a larger picture. The URL should look something like this - http://img257.imageshack.us/img257/107/now...ds2bcopyhy9.jpg Once u paste that, a full image will appear - though this website itself seems to reduce them, but at least tells you it's done that. -
Jackie McLean fan? Too good to be true bargain?

Sorry - order it, I don't care. It IS a good deal. My comments were just based on the question about why it's a good price.
