  1. I won't speak for Conn or how he thinks about the issue, but I never suggested anything about "equal guilt". My comment was in reference to Dmitry's post, explaining why it appeared to me that he knew beforehand about his partner's marital status. Yes, the married person who cheats is breaking their marriage vows. But the single person who knowingly has a relationship with a married person is also engaging in wrong behavior - ethically and morally. I think that person has to shoulder some blame for their actions - who cares whether it's "equal" or not?
  2. The only thing that might suggest that to me is that you state your actions were "immoral perhaps". This seems to imply that you had some knowledge of your partner's marital status beforehand, but chose to engage them anyway. To me this is also quite different than believing your partner to be single. If you were misled or tricked into believing she (or they) were not married, then I don't think you should have any blame, unless you chose to continue the relationshipo once you did find out they were in fact married.
  3. I think with the exception of one teenage board member, most of us do searches prior to creating new threads. It's considered standard protocol/etiquette on pretty much all bulletin boards. In fact on other boards (such as the Steve Hoffmann forums, and a couple of the sports boards I check out) they tend to shut down or close new threads completely when it duplicates a previous topic. Searching is not difficult, painful, or time consuming, either - there's a search feature at the top of the page, and you simply type in "Kenny Burrell Ellington is Forever", and it will pull up any thread in which that has been typed. Takes all of 2 seconds. Just trying to be helpful...
  4. Gimme a break. What, I'm gonna search 2,000 threads to see if someone said it first? Can we talk about Kenny and Duke, please? Anybody? It's not so much checking to see if anyone has "said it first", rather it's to keep all of our discussion about a particular topic generally in one thread. It makes it a helluva lot easier to go back and find previous discussions, and add to them, when there is only one thread on a particular album, rathen than 7. Probably helps keep the database a little easier to manage (for the administrators) and helps improve search times and process times, too. I agree with Dan in that you have valid comments, and they deserve to be on the board. The placement of them belong in the existing thread on this album though, not in a new thread.
  5. Borrowing and burning illegal copies of in-print music surely isn't helping anyone - the artists, the labels, or the mom and pop stores...
  6. I don't have any of Kennedy's recordings, nor am I familiar with him, but at least he's not *yet another* singer-songwriter that BN is forcing down our throats. Looks like there are some good musicians working on this project (DeJohnette, Carter, Lovano) and there are some covers of classic BN material. I'm willing to try this out, over an Amos Lee, Keren Ann, etc., all of whom may be perfectly fine musicians, but still aren't what I consider BN artists.

  8. Very sorry to hear about your situation, Paul. It will get easier over time, as do all things. A change of location may be a good way to energize you and help you start over. I was married for 8 years. I was 30 when I got married, and my wife was 28, so we weren't necessarily a young couple. But I think we rushed into the marriage without getting to know each other well enough, first. May have been a "biological clock" thing for both of us, wanting to settle down, have kids, and so forth. So I think we both had some blinders on with regards to the other person, not really seeing them as they were. As we began our family, we also began drifting apart. We didn't really have many common interests or things to talk about. After a while, it felt like we were roommates more than soulmates. My divorce was final two years ago. We have two kids, and share joint physical custody, meaning they live with me for a week, with their mother for a week, and back and forth like that. We live close enough to each other now that its not too big a problem going back and forth for them, or too disruptive. As they get older we'll see how the situation works for them. Personally, I'm alot happier now than during the last couple of years of my marriage. We considered staying together for the kid's sake, but ultimately decided it would be better for them to see us apart (and happy) rather than together (and miserable). I think we're better role models for them that way too.
  9. Bumping this up to give props to our man Mark Sheldon... One of his photographs from the Segal fete graces page 16 of the current Downbeat (Aug 06, w/Dave Douglas on the cover). Way to go, Mark! And thanks for sharing your work with us on the board. Your images are wonderful, and give me that "I was there" feeling. -Erik edit - I could swear there was another thread on the board about this show, w/pics, but I can't find it. That's probably my fault as a terrible searcher though...
  10. Better yet, let's get right to the source, and submerge G himself...
  11. "REMEMBER WHEN YOU WERE IN THE BEATLES? THAT WAS AWESOME!"
  12. i think that may be more a description of the original poster's comments... PS - "F*cking"------> "F-ing"-----> "F-N"
  13. ...you hadda go there, eh? It was hard enough for me to pull the trigger on my new 2001 order, ya know! and i'll take a Bier over a Zimmer any day.
  14. I saw an interview with his mother the other day, apparently they're Quakers or something (?). She had to ride a bike (in her very conservative clothing) over to someone else's house in order to watch the Tour finale. Apparently they don't own a car. Maybe the USPS Team should start scouring the Quaker & Amish communites for strong bike riders in the future
  15. Well, it left Sacramento on Tuesday evening, and hasn't been seen (or tracked) since. ...unless someone pulled a "montg" on me and took it off my porch
  16. In light of the allegations (and likelihood, IMO) of Landis having doped up in order to make his miracle Tour victory, I think an apology would be a nice gesture. ...FN Americans!
  17. Once you've become a Hasselhoff fan, there are no others.
  18. And if you do decide to place an order with zweitausendeins, be sure and pick up a disc from Wolf Biermann, Germany's Bob Dylan.
  19. I don't, sorry. But just out of curiousity, what's wrong with a BMG edition?
  20. 50 Hz versus 60 Hz.
  21. Happy Birthday, MD!
  22. Are you ready for some FOOTBALL? I am! Cowboys Training Camp starts on Friday, finally! They've got two of their rookies signed, but not the first rounder, LB Bobby Carpenter, who should be a starter come regular season. Hopefully there are alot of signing all around the league in the next couple days. I'm still curious how T.O. is going to perform this year, and what drama will unfold around him. I can't imagine how much animosity there must be for him in Philadelphia still, and bet they're really looking forward to the Dallas visit on October 8th. Will there be a sequel to the applauding when Michael Irvin was partially paralyzed there, or the batteries packed inside snowballs that were hurled at Jimmy Johnson? Biggest question mark on the team remains how the offensive line will perform. Across the board there are question marks, at each position. If they can't protect Drew "Air Concrete" Bledsoe, it could be a long year.
