  1. I think I lost about 40,000....no wait, that was Jim Sangrey Actually I think I lost about 1800 posts or so, and don't want to lose too much ground to Ron
  2. Jazztropic - Here is the Yourmusic.com thread. There are a number of worthwhile posts in there that will help you to understand this "club" better. Also it keeps ya up to date with their latest offerings, which haven't been quite as good lately, in terms of jazz. But there are still a number of discs on there that are great for plugging holes in a collection, or trying out something you're not familiar with, for a great price. -Erik
  3. "Following his highly acclaimed box set, Minstrel to Mojo: An Audio History of American Popular Song, 1893-1946, saxophonist, audio engineer and historian Allen Lowe recently released the first volume in a new anthology covering classic jazz and its eclectic roots. Titled That Devilin' Tune: A Jazz History, Volume I, the nine-CD set surveys early and pre-jazz music from 1895-1927." JazzTimes, August 2006, p.38.
  4. I like this disc too, but the Big Band seems to get mixed reviews here. As before, there are existing threads on Dave Holland, and his Big Band. Also a thread on the DHBB live.
  5. You got a mention in the current JazzTimes (w/Stern & Bona on the cover). I'll try and post the comment later, if I remember...
  6. Cassandra Wilson - Thunderbird Sergio Mendes - Pure Bossa Nova Hilliard Ensemble - Nicolas Gombert (ECM) Harry Nillson - A Little Touch of Schmillson in the Night (expanded)
  7. Have a great one Randy, and best wishes for many more!
  8. This, on top of your recent racist comments, really upsets me. Please grow up.
  9. Happy Birthday Stereojack!
  10. Picking up Nazr Mohammed as a replacement for Big Ben isn't an upgrade. Thanks for taking him off our hands down in San Antonio. He's certainly serviceable though. Just not very tough or particularly strong. If he built up some arm-strength and developed an attitude, he'd be alright.
  11. Best wishes on this day and all the rest, too!
  12. I've been waiting for a release of the 3 disc Gentle Giant anthology "On Reflection". Seems that at least in the U.S., the release has been pushed back a few times, and there's no definitive word on when it's coming out. However, I've noticed it's listed on Amazon UK, for £22.99, albeit with a 4-6 week dispatch lag. Does anyone know if this was actually released in the U.K already? I like the tracklist, and this seems to be about the right amount of GG for me. I've had some of their albums and another compilation (Edge of Twilight) previously.
  13. Ahhh, but BF, you may not have been snockered and wandered out and plopped yourself down on those tracks and sat there half the night. Just a guess.
  14. If your CD-burner came with your computer, it should have come with burning software. If it didn't come with your computer, it still should have come with burning software.
  15. Julie London - Very Best of (2 discs) Perez Prado - Best of Ali Farka Toure - Red & Green (2 discs) Patti Smith - Horses (Legacy Edition) Tony Levin - Resonator J. Geils Band - Best of Queensryche - Operation Mindcrime II still slim pickin's on the jazz side...
  16. Happy Happy Day!!

    William Parker

I've tried 3-4 Little Huey releases, and struggled with them. But I like some of his smaller group recordings - Scrapbook, Raining on the Moon, Painter's Spring, & O'Neal's Porch. I interpreted Nate's comment as referring to the recordings where Parker plays something other than bass, like Eloping with the Sun, where he plays a zintir (w/Joe Morris on banjo/banjouke, & Hamid Drake on frame drums).
  18. what software do you normally use to make CDRs? Shouldn't that software give you the option to make either an MP3 CDR or a WAV CDR?
  19. bump... I just picked up two (!) new Mehldau releases yesterday. One is "House on Hill", which is a Trio recording with Larry Grenadier & Jorge Rossy. Apparently it is comprised of recordings that were made during the same sessions as "Anything Goes". However, that one was comprised of cover material, while House on Hill is all originals. This new one also brings a return of the humongous, self-penned liner notes. The other is a duet with vocalist Renee Fleming, "Love Sublime". I haven't spun either yet, but am looking forward to them. Just wanted to give a heads up for anyone else interested.
  20. I concur with Quincy/Eric. Though you both could have gotten the spelling right, y'know. Congratulations, Chuck & Ann!! May the honeymoon "phase" never end!
  21. Suggesting a person of Asian descent looks like they "just came of the shipliner from ching-ching-chewy-chwey-ching-chong land" isn't exactly lovin. At least not to me. How is that any different than suggesting to a Hispanic that they swam across the Rio Grande and are here illegally, or any other negative stereotype that should have ended ages ago??
  22. Aric, cool it with the racist stuff. I find this offensive.
