  1. bump.... While doing a search on "celebrity squirrel" (don't even ask!), I came across this picture: p.s. - i wasn't sure where to post this, but thought it would fit here in Chris' thread...
  2. Word on the street is that Wilburn didn't like the wording of the email from Amazon France, and help up its original release to you, Chuck. He demanded an edit to the email stating "This email compiled and typed (but contents not produced) by Amazon France".
  3. Sooooooo.... Has anybody else picked up "Richter 858" yet? For those who didn't care for Frisell's Americana turn, this is quite different. I don't think there's been anything else quite like it in his catalog, either. Originally a limited (and expensive - $250) edition only available with a book of Gerhard Richter's paintings, it is now available as a normal standalone disc. ...and I need to check out that Power Tools thing. Sounds interesting!
  4. ...anybody know if there was a "limited edition" version of this? There's one on Ebay right now, but the seller is located in Lithuania, and I'm wondering what it actually is, and whether it's even authentic.
  5. Just got notice that Louis Armstrong's "Satch Plays Fats" is no longer available. I never got a notice that there was low stock, just that it was gone...
  6. "I WANT MY MONEY BACK!!!"
  7. Apparently they put all those tunes on "Further East/Further West", which I just discovered. These are additional tracks that are available for download only, from Bill's website. I really like the East/West stuff. I just wish they'd release this other stuff on CD as well, I prefer real discs to CDRs and MP3s.
  8. Wild ending to the Cowboys/Eagles MNF game! Cowboys were dominated by the Eagles, offensively and defensively for 56 minutes, but scored a late touchdown to get within 6, then McNabb throws an INT to Roy Williams, who runs it in for the winning score. Eagles found a running game that I didn't think they had. The receivers were ok, but nothing special. Hard to say whether T.O.'s absence cost them the game or not (he didn't affect the outcome in the first game between these two teams). For the Eagles fans on the board, you have my sympathies today. Dallas stole a win from ya at the end. But it has happened to the Boys as well - Redskins got one from us in Week 2 like that. In fact, 7 of the Cowboys' 9 games have been decided by 6 points or less, so they've been in a bunch of nailbiters.
  9. I think the reason you're not "winning" is that you're acting like a 14 yr old who thinks it's ok to rip off artists and producers of music, by burning their music and taking money out of their pocket. The majority of people on this board purchase their cd's legally. I don't think most of us condone ripping others off like you seem to be ok with.
  10. Is this similar to the thread that you started asking for someone to burn you a copy of the Organissimo cd?
  11. I did a little listening last night, and a bit in my car this morning as well. The JF disc does not have the bass overdubs, whereas the Debut disc does. So they don't sound identical to me. Otherwise the SACD may have a slightly brighter sound, but not significantly. The sound on the Jazz Factory disc is quite good, imho. I'm not an audiophile though, perhaps others have better ears (and systems) than I do. Seconding, Ron's comments, I'd like to see a complete, official Massey Hall release from Fantasy - why wouldn't/haven't they done this, as it could easily fit on one cd?
  12. Regarding the SACD, I've only listened to the redbook layer. Don't have an SACD setup right now. And I actually have been listening more to the tracks on the Jazz Factory disc that I haven't already heard...the trio tracks. I'll try and do an A/B comparison later and see, though. I'm guessing the SACD redbook is more recently remastered, if the JF disc is from other sources.
  13. bump.... I bought the SACD hybrid from yourmusic.com a while back, and am generally satisifed with it. I've listened to it a bit lately, going back and forth between this one and the amazing Uptown disc. However, I also have to plead ignorance about this concert. I didn't realize there was a "Vol II" release (credited to Bud Powell), consisting of trio recordings from Powell/Mingus/Roach, until just recently. This OJC disc looks confusing to me though...there is stuff on it that ISN'T from the Massey Hall show but is played by the same trio, and there is also stuff on there that isn't even played by Powell, but by Billy Taylor. So, just today I picked up Charlie Parker: Complete Jazz at Massey Hall, on Jazz Factory. Got it locally for cheap, however I also realize Jazz Factory and it's sister labels are grey area. BUT it seems to be the best (only?) way to get the complete concert (minus the tune "Bassically Speaking" which wasn't recorded (?)). Concert set: Quintet: 1. Perdido 2. Salt Peanuts 3. All the Things You Are/ 4. 52nd Street Theme Roach Solo: 5. Drum Conversation Trio: 6. Cherokee 7. Embraceable You 8. Hallelujah (Jubilee) 9. Sure Thing 10. Lullaby of Birdland 11. I've Got You Under My Skin Quintet: 12. Wee (Allen's Alley) 13. Hot House 14. A Night in Tunisia "Bassically Speaking" was played between 9 & 10, according to the Jazz Factory notes. There was also another quintet performance afterwards, with the Graham Topping Band at the end of the show, which is also not included. Is there a legitimate way to get the complete Massey Hall recordings, or is this Jazz Factory disc the best way to go? edit - the Jazz Factory disc is also minus the Mingus overdubs, by the way...
  14. #2239 here....BUT.....when you turn it upside down, it looks like #6.
  15. ← Yep, they still suck. 21-0 Oklahoma, and it's only half-way through the first quarter.
  16. Think he's burned a few too many brain cells maybe?
  17. John Scofield - Bar Talk Buy It Now Price of $125.00 - are Nimbus recordings THAT good? I already have this on vinyl (not on CD yet though...it's practically impossible to track down), and don't need to upgrade at that price.
  18. up for air.... Not jazz, but I was in my local Half-Price bookstore this afternoon, after running some errands. I stumbled onto a $1.00 CD-Single from one of my favorite rock groups, Porcupine Tree. The single is called "Stars Die", and is hard to come by. Most recent copy on ebay went for $71!
  19. Yesterday I ordered all 5 of the new RVGs they listed, and they're all on backorder...
  20. Happy Birthday, and a little taste of home - Dunn's River Falls...
  21. He guests on his brother Motohiko Hino's discs "Sailing Stone" from '91 and "It's There" from '93. SS includes a number of Rolling Stones covers, and the other includes Led Zep covers. The bands include Scofield, Stern, Dave Liebman, Steve Swallow, & Karen Mantler. Scofield also guests on T. Hino's "May Dance" from 1977, which I haven't tracked down yet. And Hino guests on Scofield's first leader date, "East Meets West" from 1977 as well.
  22. ...trainwreck in progress... T.O. gets into fistfight with Hugh Douglas in locker room
  23. That Frisell disc is well worth picking up!
