  1. I don't understand why this should disqualify this recording from being on a "best of year" list at all. The majority of the listening public are probably hearing this for the first time.

  5. Some are with metal spine and some are not? The Silent Way box does not have a metal spine, nor does the Cellar Door box, apparently. But they look similar to the other boxes in the series. The Blackhawk and Plugged Nickel boxes are not of the same design as the other Columbia boxes.
  6. "There's no way I can go play for the Yankees, but I know they're going to come after me hard. It's definitely not the most important thing to go out there for the top dollar, which the Yankees are going to offer me. It's not what I need." - Johnny Damon, May '05
  7. also noticed the following: Ron Blake (former organissimo sideman, and current SNL bandmember) - Sonic Tonic Ilona Knopfler - Live the Life Gerald Wilson Orchestra - In My Time Stefano di Battista - Parker's Mood George Shearing - Like Fine Wine Jerry Garcia - Legion of Mary James Brown - Gettin' Down to It Sigur Ros - Takk (i like this one alot!)
  8. bump.... This just came out on Tuesday - anybody pick it up yet? I skipped the one disc version, waiting for this one. I'm curious to hear folk's opinions about this set.
  9. Sock it tome? ....Bonus points awarded to Chris for perfect use of "tome".
  10. Happy Birthday! Alles Gute zum Geburtstag! Vill Gleck fir daei Geburtsdaag! Til hamingju med afmaelisdaginn! Tillykke med fodselsdagen! Buon Compleanno! Joyeux Anniversaire! Grattis på födelsedagen ok, i'm done
  11. Thanks Brownie! If these sets don't have the advertising that Miles' estate was apparently insisting upon, it makes me wonder if some sort of payoff wasn't involved. Especially because of the "suddenness" of these things arriving in the marketplace now.
  12. ok gemm.com
  13. ...which one's the skinny one?
  14. 1. Take out loan for $22M. 2. Buy Time Machine on ebay for $21M. 3. Go back in time 60 yrs and deposit $1M in savings account. 4. Come back to 2005. 5. Withdraw the $1M + $21M in interest you've accumulated. 6. Repay loan for $22M. 7. You are now the proud owner of a FREE Time Machine. edited because I forgot how to count to 7. I need to go back in time to Kindergarten.
  15. Out of curiousity, did you happen to notice whether these sets had the "added on" stickers that Wilburn was insisting on? I'm curious to see if that played out the way it was being described previously.
  16. I received my package (Sco photo, naturally ) from Mark today, and I wanted to share how beautiful the print is, as well as the matting and signatures (both artists, Sco & Mark). A tip of the hat to Mark for doing such a good thing with the charities that he is involving.
  17. ...In the Year 2000!
  18. I just saw the Heat's new uniforms for the first time! Dang, was there a clearance sale on the old Tampa Bay Buccaneers pink & orange fabric??

  21. When I was a kid my folks lived in Japan. We used to travel back and forth to the U.S. to visit family, and often passed through Hawaii on the way (though sometimes the route was through Alaska instead). Invariably we'd end up staying a day or two in Hawaii and do the beach thing. I remember clearly how delicious the Coconut Syrup was (is) there. Not sure how readily available this stuff is elsewhere, but it was some kinda good!
  22. Third time for the Davis Legacy set was a charm! (i'm wondering if the Dino Saluzzi ECM disc and the Belew Side Two will ever show up though...they've been backordered/cancelled a couple times for me). Very nice package - the concert recording on disc 2 sounds great. Need to listen to the performance a bit more closely now... New on yourmusic: Albert Ayler - New Grass Yusef Lateef - Psychicemotus Gabor Szabo - Spellbinder Freda Payne - After the Lights Go Down Low Mizell Bros - Mizell
