  1. I think that one's too new yet, Chalupa. Typically takes a couple of months before things see the light of day at yourmusic.com. The trick is knowing which titles to wait for and which they won't carry. It seems like a crapshoot to me there. I'm hoping they'll get the Metheny/Coleman Song X reissue, myself.
  2. I preordered from CD Universe at the $38.49 price back in August, and still get weekly emails telling me that my order is still valid. There is no release date associated with the box on their site, but it's still showing the pre-order at the original price. I'm going to assume that whenever this thing eventually does come out, that they'll honor their price. Otherwise, wouldn't they have cancelled all of the preorders that they received already?
  3. Whoa!! Need an assistant? I can carry camera bags with the best of 'em!
  4. Busy running your other business?
  5. ...a year and a half of domestic beer has caused me to glaze over in general
  6. Nice Erdinger Hefe-Weizne Dunkel tonight....this is better than I remembered it!
  7. I've been getting the similar one for PayPal at about the same rate. The links provided in the e-mail begin with https:/ Like, the internet protocol went out and got all plural on me when I wasn't looking. ←
  8. up... I got to see Lyle Lovett (another fellow Aggie like Robert Earl Keen) and his Large Band tonight here in town tonight. They were playing at the grand opening of a grocery store, of all things (H.E.B. - a pretty large texas chain, and they just opened their biggest store ever a couple of blocks from where I live). I'm not sure if that's impressive that the chain was able to get Lovett to play, or if it's a sign of Lovett's slide into obscurity that he's doing that type of gig today. Anyway, the show was alot of fun, and the performance was great as well. The Large Band is a 10 piece - drums, percussion, bass, piano, violin, guitar, steel guitar, violin, cello, backup singer, and Lyle. I couldn't give you a set list if I wanted to, because I didn't recognize most of the tunes. But the music was a cross between country/folk/americana, and done very well. The highlight of the night for me was meeting and chatting with Viktor Krauss after the show. He signed my copy of "Far From Enough", which I highly recommend to anyone who likes Bill Frisell. Didn't get to meet Lovett or his Large Hair. Maybe next time...
  9. With that look, I think they're just trying to "hook" those ladies that didn't like "Smokin' Section" down at the hair salon
  10. Hadley Calliman "It's Hadley!!!"
  11. I've always thought Bireli Lagrene was a cool name. Sounds like a Formula 1 driver
  12. Why are you bringing this stuff over here from AAJ? At least chat and interact instead of lecture.
  13. Not sure the Uptown fits the timeframe, but it gets my vote as well, with a close second for the Monk/Trane. I think the Diz/Bird is a more significant find, though, personally.
  14. I'm not sure if any jazz folk share my birthday (April 19), but others who do: Jayne Mansfield Ashley Judd Kate Hudson Maria Sharapova Darth Vader (ok, well "actor" Hayden Christensen anyway)
  15. At least you have more hair than Andre does.....er.....never mind.
  16. I posted this in response to some name-calling in the Scofield Live thread: From Scofield's website: "TAPING POLICY: John Scofield allows taping at the discretion of each venue on a case by case basis. No video taping, no board patches, sorry. Taping of his Jazz Trio or other jazz oriented projects will not be permitted for reasons outside Scofield's authority -- contractual obligations and the wishes of other musicians with differing opinions. No Scofield tape may be posted on any internet download sites -- they are for individual trading only. We regret any disappointment this may cause. Contact can be made through the website." Ok, I'm probably one of the bigger Sco fans on this forum, but isn't this a little over the top??
  17. Personally, I'm waiting for Lon "Styx fan extraordinaire" Armstrong to weigh in with his recommendations!
  18. New: Motian/Frisell/Lovano - I have the Room above Her Jimmy Smith - Stay Loose (gotta love dat cover!) Ella Fitzgerald - Hello Dolly Milton Nascimento - Courage Ray Charles - Friendship Adrian Belew - Side Two
  19. Made it up to Austin for the Scofield gig last night at Antone's. For anyone considering going to a show on this tour, go for it! The Ray Charles tribute was alot of fun. Not a straight-ahead gig by any means, the show (much like the album) had people dancing and grooving around the club all night long. Highlights for me were a beautiful version of "Georgia on my Mind" and "I can't stop loving you". Scofield was in fine form, even though there were technical difficulties on the intro song, "Talkin' Bout You/I got a Woman"...to the point where he stopped the band, they all left the stage until things were fixed, then came back and resumed mid-song. Sco grooved all night, and coaxed some amazing sounds out of his guitar more than a few times. The band was great - Meyer Statham sang the tunes with vocals from the CD, and also played trombone occasionally. He's a fine singer, and sang the heck out of Ray's songs. Gary Versace was great on B-3 and Wurlitzer. He traded licks a few times with Sco, and it was clear they were having fun together. John Benitez on bass was a fine player as well, not active or showy, but a solid player. The guy standing next to me at the bar (more on him later) said Benitez is a Grammy winner. Not sure from what, but I'll have to check him out. And Steve Hass was solid on drums - he was clearly having a good time as well. After the last song, the band came out for an encore, and brought suprise guest Ivan Neville out on stage with them. They played "Night Time is the Right Time", and really grooved out. Ivan was enjoying being up there on stage with the band and added a nice touch to the song. Back to the guy at the bar - he had brought a guitar case in with him and was standing there with it. We made small talk for a while, and I finally asked him about the guitar. He said it was Sco's very first electric guitar, from when he was a teenager, and that John had sold it to the bass player in his first band way back when. That bass player had given it to the guy at the bar, and he brought it with him to the show for Sco to check out. Well, after the performance was over, Sco came out, and started talking with this guy in great detail about the guitar (looked like a Strat of some sort...didn't get a good look at it). He then plugged it in and played on it for a bit, just noodling around. You could tell he was enjoying seeing it and playing it again after all that time (35+ yrs?). I talked with Sco a bit, as well as Ivan Neville and the band. John was kind enough to sign the picture that Mark Sheldon had taken of him last year at the Indy Jazz Fest, on the matte. It looks great, and will be re-framed and proudly displayed once again! Thanks again, Mark! A great night of music for me, and alot of fun! Would love to meet up with some of the TX boardmembers for a show in Austin some day.
  20. Just to make you feel better (?), from Sco's website: I know you don't care for Scofield, but calling him a prick seems a little harsh...
  21. I have and like the Lloyd, as well. He sounds fine, and I like Geri Allen's contributions as well. Well worth the $5.99 for anyone who doesn't own it. I don't have the Gustaven, and haven't seen any reviews either, but for that price it's already been ordered.
  22. Couple of new ECMs! Tord Gustavsen Trio - The Ground Charles Lloyd - Jumping the Creek by the way...i ordered the Round About Midnight Legacy Edition when I first noticed it... it had been on backorder ever since, and just got cancelled today. Going to re-order it and see if the ol juju works and it comes through this time.
