Large list of jazz CD's for trade or sale
Aggie87 replied to felser's topic in Offering and Looking For...
I've traded with John a number of times, from his postings at AAJ. He's a safe and reliable trader, for what it's worth. -
The Aggies beat SMU today, 66-8. Nice rebound from the 1 pt loss to Clemson (who also lost today). Granted it was SMU, but they beat TCU previously, and TCU has beaten both Oklahoma and Utah. Reggie McNeal looked good today - threw 5 TD passes (4 in the 3rd Qtr alone!), and ran for another TD. And they took him out in the 3rd quarter. I hope this "rights the ship" at A&M, and they can somehow cruise all the way to the Texas game at Thanksgiving, ready to compete with U.T for the Big 12 South. That could be a good game if A&M continues to get better, esp. on their defense.

Okayyy...you've made the point that you dislike this label quite a bit. Moving on.

I wouldn't mind living in a world where those were all Top 10 smashes, Johnny

Have a good one, Dan!!! :rsmile: (I sprung for one of the pitchers that Robert J is sending over, don't let him tell ya otherwise!!)

I've somehow missed the whole Oasis craze. How did they manage to get to #3? Aren't they a Beatles slag-off band or something?

...He's never too young to get into Organissimo!!

He's gonna have to top Jeremiah Trotter getting ejected from the game for fighting with Kevin Mathis, during the pregame!!

I might agree with you about Shipp's goals being a bit lofty, and that there may be some self-congratulatory blather in some of the Thirsty Ear text I've read. However, I'm still really enjoying the music itself, whatever it is or isn't intended to be. I'm not really concerned with whether it is cutting edge, but whether I enjoy what I'm hearing - and right now that's the case.

She's clearly just following The One Who Loves Children:

Really digging Spring Heel Jack's "Live". This one guests Shipp, Evan Parker, William Parker, & Han Bennink. Only two 30+ minute tracks, combining improvised jazz and electronica in a very creative way. This one inspired me to pick up both "Masses" and "Amassed", the studio recordings that came before it, and I haven't been disappointed.

I didn't realize I had posted so many times on Jim's link. I have a fear of my own posts!!

I have really been enjoying the releases on Thirsty Ear (primarily the Blue Series). I think Matthew Shipp is to be commended for what he's done here, yet I haven't really seen all that much discussion about this label in general here. I think they've issued some very creative recordings. I haven't found one that I'd consider a "clunker" yet. I've enjoyed all of Shipp's leader recordings, as well as Mat Maneri, Roy Campbell, William Parker, David S. Ware, and the Springheel Jack releases. And the recent Groundtruther (Charlie Hunter/Bobby Previte/rotating third person) albums are Hunter's best work, IMO. Any recommendations you want to share from this series?

I finally picked up one of the BOC remasters - Secret Treaties, which is probably my favorite album of theirs. Reissue Producer - Bruce Dickinson I didn't realize the Legendary Bruce Dickinson had actually worked on these! -
Exciting Dallas/San Diego game this afternoon! Not the prettiest game, but certainly hard fought by both sides. San Diego made some critical penalties on Dallas 3rd down plays, that kept drives alive that otherwise would have died. And Bledsoe looked solid, for being a human pigeon target back there. The O-Line didn't protect him well enough, which will give Parcells something to chew on them for, even after a win. Patrick Crayton looks like the real deal at wide receiver. Key, Glenn, Crayton, Peerless, and Witten - Bledsoe's going to have plenty of targets out there, which will only help the running game. And the D looked decent, but still not solid in their switch to a 3-4. Anthony Henry played great, but Ware looked like a rookie at times. He did have some good pressure on Brees though, and I think as he gets more seasoned he'll only get better and better.

Just shipped Radiohead's "Kid A". I had this but lost it somewhere during a move or a divorce or something Next up is Drew Gress' "7 Black Butterflies".

Somehow I can't see a Wynton metal spine box set series like the ones they've done for Miles. Even that WM VV box was deeply discounted to start with, wasn't it? I would assume this was done to artificially boost interest? Seems like it was available from BMG for $15.99 from day one.

How worthwhile is the additional music on the "Coltrane" and "Ballads" deluxe editions? In other words, if I already have the "Complete" Classic Quartet box, are these worth picking up?
-
Moss with Moss's work ethic is no big deal. Sure he had 130 yds last night, but his team lost. He should be the difference maker with his talent, and he's not. Wasn't for the Vikings, and won't be for the Raiders. ...IMO.

..just noticed on Alan's site: Sept 27: Brad Mehldau Trio - Day is Done Appears Jeff Ballard is now the drummer in the trio, replacing Jorge Rossy. This one includes covers of "Alfie", "Martha My Dear", "She's Leaving Home", and "50 Ways to Leave your Lover".

My Aggies laid an egg at Clemson on Saturday night, losing 25-24 on a last second field goal. The offense let me down in the first half (but played ALOT better in the 2nd), the defense underwhelmed me the whole time, and the coaching could be at least partially to blame for the loss. Franchione opted not to go for a two point conversion attempt after the touchdown that put A&M ahead. That would have given them a 3 point lead, and the subsequent end-of-game field goal that Clemson scored would have only tied it up, not won it. Still have hopes for them, but it was particularly frustrating to watch. As Oklahoma also lost, this puts Texas in the early driver's seat for the Big 12 South, as was expected. But they have a good game coming up this weekend with Ohio State, so that will be a better challenge for Texas than Louisiana-Lafayette was.

2005 NFL Training Camp And Pre-Season Games

Cowboys signed WR Peerless Price to a 1 yr deal today. Hopefully getting away from the Falcons will allow a return of his solid #2 WR skills that Atlanta never saw. Looks like this means the end of Quincy Morgan's time in Dallas. He's the guy they traded away Antonio Bryant to the Browns for. Bryant is apparently the #1 WR in Cleveland this year, and Morgan couldn't make the top 4 for the Cowboys. I think the biggest question left in Dallas is how the O-Line will perform. That will make or break Dallas' season, what with the Statue of Bledsoe playing QB. If they give him time, Cowboys will be a solid playoff contender. Their D is gonna be VERY good again this year.
