  1. according to Wikipedia his discography is: 10 Inch Records Volume 2 - Sunday Jazz A La Lighthouse (Contemporary 2501) Volume 3 (Contemporary 2506) Volume 4 - Oboe/Flute (Contemporary 2510) Volume 5 - In The Solo Spotlight (Contemporary 2515) 12 Inch Records Volume 1 - Sunday Jazz A La Lighthouse (Contemporary 3501) Volume 6 (Contemporary 3504) Volume 3 (Contemporary 3508) Lighthouse At Laguna (Contemporary 3509) In The Solo Spotlight (Contemporary 3517) Volume 4 - Oboe/Flute (Contemporary 3520) Music For Lighthousekeeping (Contemporary 3528) I suspect there will be some overlap between the 10" & 12" releases.
  2. According to Wikipidia the Mainstream Records back catalogue was sold to Legacy Records (part of Sony)in 1993. There are some tasty looking albums in the catalogue: Mainstream Records Discography some, (or all?) of which have appeared as Japanese reissues on P-Vine. Does anyone know whether any of them ever came out as domestic releases on Legacy/Sony or if there are plans to release them as such in the future?
  3. Thanks for the recommendation, sidewinder. I've just ordered a copy from Amazon.
  4. The Buddy Terry Mainstrean albums are pretty wonderful. I'm surprised. Admittedly I've only heard one (Lean On Him) but that one was pretty dispensable.
  5. I wasn't sure what to expect when I ordered this but having listened to Disc 1 I'm VERY impressed. Great charts and great soloing. Has anyone seen this band live?

    Jonas Kulhammar

Another fan of Kullhammar here. Here's one of my favourites by him:
  7. Thanks for the offer of help, I did the same thing myself earlier today. Let's hope it was worth the wait!
  8. Wow......how great oak trees grow from little acorns! I only asked if anyone knew what might be on the bonus disc Anyway, thanks for all the info shawoody even if it does look like the set won't be available in the UK. I already have the Mosaic set plus Stepping Stones so I'm probably content with that. However I agree it's very good news that all this wonderful music will soon be available again.
  9. Saw this on another jazz blog recently. Anyone have any idea what might be on the bonus disc of unreleased material?

    Gene Harris

    Aaaah......such is life
  11. Vocalion Summer Sale Some good bargains from Vocalion including a number of Michael Garrick releases and Ray Russell's 'Turn Circle'. Be warned, there's also quite a bit of 'dross' to wade through to find them.
  12. Robert Palmer - Blues & Chaos Boy, he was a good writer!
  13. Thanks for the 'heads-up', felser. I just put my order in for both of them/ Let's hope they have more than one copy for sale!

    Vocalion

Depending on how many I decide to buy. Since Dutton charge p&p it might be cheaper to buy them through Amazon.

Also the host on the 1st series of 'Jazz 625' and frequently on TV back in the day as host of the 'My Music' quiz show - which dinosaurs on here remember that? His heart was certainly in the right place as far as jazz is concerned. Really impressed with these Vocalion reissues. Too bad they didn't also release the 3rd Dick Morrissey of the triumvirate - 'Have You Heard?' on Dobell's '77 Records'. Maybe 'Hum Dono' will be on the horizon next? I notice on eBay that someone is advertising a number of upcoming Dick Morrissey CDs including the one you mention Sidewinder, "Have You Heard?". The label is called JAZZHUS DISK but there's something about the listing that looks a bit fishy. Does anyone know anything about these releases? Dick Morrissey on eBay

    Vocalion

I have it as a Japanese mini-lp. 'Tis really good. It's a terrific session...easily his best recording, IMO. I too have it as a Japanese mini-LP and mucho yen it cost me too! The two Dick Morrissey albums again are excellent - I have them as Japanese imports. I wonder whether they've been remastered by Vocalion? Does anyone know? I bought the two John Dankworth albums through his website some time ago as part of a 5xCD boxset and again they are very good. Since I'm a sucker for 60/70s British jazz I'll probably treat myself to the John Cameron and Paul Gonslaves/Tubby Hayes releases. This really is a bumper set of releases by Vocalion.
  17. Thanks for getting back to me Shawn. I'm no expert, so do you know where would I be able to find the spec for the video card in the control panel?
  18. On the slim chance that someone here might be able to help, here's my query: I recently purchased a new flat screen monitor for my Windows XP PC. It has an optimum resolution of 1600x900 but when I try to set this resolution it is NOT one of the options available and so I have to set it lower. I have loaded all the latest drivers for both the monitor (an AOC 2043F) and the graphics controller (an Intel 82845G)but to no avail. Any suggestions as to how I can get this to work?
  19. Thanks for this but I didn't pick it up until today so I've missed the opportunity to see one of my favourite jazzmen. What a shame! Anyway, The Ethan Iverson Trio were excellent at Small's, although Mr Iverson seemed a bit in awe of his sidemen (Buster Williams and Ben Riley) and stuck to standards for the early set that I watched. I guess it must be really difficult being the junior partner playing with a couple of jazz legends. Did you leave town? Henry Threadgill is actually at the Jazz Gallery tonight to Saturday. http://www.jazzgallery.org/live/ In case there is any confusion, Jazz Gallery is different from Jazz Standard. Jazz Gallery is a performance space (not a club like Jazz Standard) across from where the Half Note used to be located. Yes, I'm off to Washington DC tonight and then back to the UK on Monday.

  21. Thanks for this Durium but when I tried to move on to step 2 in the ordering process I got an error message (in Dutch, of course).
  22. Let us know how you get on......I'd like to be able order a copy of this album too.

    Art Pepper

Did you get it from CDBaby because they're out of stock now. BTW does anyone know whether it's going to be available from any British on-line outlets?
  24. Staying with my daughter in Princeton for the next week and will be going in to New York to see Ethan Iverson at Small's on tuesday. Any 'must-see' gigs that people can recommend for next week?
