Is that "Spotlight" or "Spotlite"?

Every year for the last umpteen, Darlington Arts Centre has run an excellent live jazz season with nearly full houses for all sessions. At the concert last month, (The Stan Tracy Duo/Trio), we learnt that due to cuts in local government funding The Centre was having to drastically reduce its opening times and that jazz had been removed from the programme for next year.

Yes and isn't it shameful that there appears to be only ONE CD by The Human Arts Ensemble currently in print: 'Junk Trap' on Black Saint. Why have neither of the Group's releases on Freedom/Arista ever been re-issued (or have they?). Plus there are a couple from 1976: 'Trio Performance Vols 1 & 2' on the Circle label that are well worth worth hearing again. Is it because the masters have been lost or what?

Does anyone know whether Bud Shank's 80's recordings on Contemporary ever got a release on CD? I'm thinking particularly of 'At Jazz Alley' and 'That Old Feeling', both of which I have on vinyl but have never seen on CD.

£18+ is rather more than I want to pay so does anyone know whether there's a paperback version scheduled for release?

I hadn't realised the Clare Fischer Select had gone, it's one of my favourites. Still, I'm surprised that it has sold out when some of the other (more popular?) sets are still around. Was it a 5000 copy set? There never was a Clare Fischer Select. You are both probably referring to The Pacific Jazz Piano Trios Select with sessions under the leadership of Russ Freeman, Richard Twardzik, Jimmy Rowles and (indeed) Clare Fischer. Most of Fischer's recordings for PJ were originally released on 2 albums, 3 songs remained unissued; his complete PJ output can be found on the Select. I was a bit careless; it was indeed the "Piano Trios" Select I was referring to. To clarify, perhaps we should say that it's Clare Fischer's trio albums on Pacific Jazz that are on the Mosaic Select. There are also the albums "Extension" and "Manteca" for larger band. Yes, I did indeed mean his PJ trio albums, but didn't specify because I was referring to the PJ Piano Trios Select Yep, it was one of the victims. What were the other victims?

Now that a Japanese re-issue has been announced for his second Roulette album 'No Coast Jazz', does that mean a Mosaic Select is even more unlikely to see the light of day? I love his Roulette albums so I'm tempted to get the Japanese release and hope that the other two get released in Japan as well.

I've had this set on order for a couple of weeks with Amazon UK. Does anyone know what the delay is? Has anyone in the UK managed to get a copy yet?

It's the second of three albums he did for Roulette in the late 50's/early 60's and is very good. I love his sound and it's already distinctive, even at this early stage of his career(1960). He's playing with an excellent quartet consisting of Don Friedman (piano), Bill Lee (bass) and Lex Humphries (drums). I seem to recall a discussion here some time ago about the possibility of Mosaic issuing a Select set of his Roulette recordings. Was that just wishful thinking?

My local Borders in the UK closed last year. Way back when, they had an excellent music department but you could see them going downhill many years ago. I still remember visiting Borders in San Francisco on a US holiday in the early 90s and being amazed by the number of jazz CDs they had in stock. I spent a fortune and had great trouble meeting my weight allowance on luggage on the flight back!

It's £32 at Amazon.co.uk which is a 'NOT BAD' price. I've always loved Stan so I've ordered it, although it's currently out of stock.

I couldn't agree more...a terrific release. 84 years old and till going strong! I saw him last week on tour with Clark & Andy and the music sounds as good live as it does on the album. Long may be continue to play!

I ordered two CDs which together fell below the minimum limit of £18 but when shipping was added they fell very slightly above. I was charged something like £4 for VAT and then another charge of over £8 for collection! Therefore on two CDs I paid an additional £12. In future I will ask for them to sent individually, even if the shipping charge might be slightly dearer.
