Is everyone from Texas like JSangry?...it sounds like a scary place.

Thanks for the heads-up tranemonk. Laurie's interview with Milcho is very interesting I've always loved 'Blues for The Fisherman'. I saw him play at Ronnie Scott's Club with Milcho Leviev on that tour and bought the album when it was first released, plus the CD when that came out later. It is an absolutely essential buy if you like late-Art and I, for one, will definitely be getting the new 4xCD release when it comes out.

I've had this recording since it was released on vinyl and also bought your CD upgrade, Chuck. It's my favourite Warne Marsh album and something you should be very proud to have produced. Oh yes and while I remember, the Eddie Johnson CD landed on my doormat a few days ago. It sounds great and I've been playing it regularly ever since it arrived. Thank you for another winner!

Seriously? Oh well, you should be fine as long as you don't eat the CDs. Or wear them round your neck!

The Billy Hart HAS been out on CD - I have it - but I'm pretty sure the others haven't. The Horizon series of albums WOULD make make a nice re-issue set although a number of them have already been re-issued on CD. There are a couple by Dave Liebman & the one you mention by The Revolutionary Ensemble that all deserve to be in print

McPartland Piano Jazz with Toshiko Akiyoshi
Head Man replied to Stonewall15's topic in Offering and Looking For...
Are you thinking of this one released on Concord? Toshiko Akiyoshi at Maybeck Hall -
Apart from being 50(?) years older...NOT playing his flute...and wearing trousers (flares, of course!)...he looks exactly the same as I when I last saw him, playing on the green outside Euston Station as part of The Camden Jazz Festival in 19-whenever. PS should this topic be merged with the "UK Old Codgers Reminiscences Corner"?

For anyone who's ever wondered what Bob Downes has been doing with himself for the last forty years, here's a recent video of him. Bob Downes

I think it moved about a bit over the years. But you're right, in it's final resting place it was a box facing the door on Shaftesbury Avenue. It was always the first thing I looked at when I went in.

I don't think so. As usual with Hip-O sets, this one is expensive, $79.98 for 4 discs. Apart from the price, this looks a really cool set. If anyone is interested I suggest they sit on their hands for a while and wait for the price to come down..it usually does! I'm very impressed with the couple of Hip-O jazz sets I've bought, both very nicely done.

Ray was someone I used to see and talk to whenever I called in to Collets or Ray's Record Shop. He could be a bit intimidating but was very knowledgeable about all forms of jazz..and cricket, of course! I really missed it when his shop in Shaftsbury Avenue closed. The shop in Foyles has never been a replacement for it. I'm really sorry to hear that he's died. Richard William's excellent obituary brought back a lot of memories. R.I.P.

The Nessa Juggernaut rolls on
Head Man replied to Chuck Nessa's topic in Offering and Looking For...
Wow! What I wouldn't give to be able to say I'd brought all that wonderful music to the great listening public! You're a star, Chuck! -
Nor did I, actually! I'm sure it will get re-issued again.

I maintain that my suggestion of Ran Blake and Jeanne Lee's Newest Sound Around fits the bill perfectly. Is this oop? It was issued on CD in 2001 and is still findable. So why are we asking for it to be re-issued by Jonathan? Then find me a copy for under $100. The LP of Intents and Purposes was "findable". It's currently on Amazon (UK) for £21 and Amazon (France) for 25 euros.

I have it on good authority that Mohawk is coming out again as a reissue, along with a bunch of unissued stuff. Keep your ears to the ground. It would be wonderful to have the whole series of Fontana albums with the Marte Roling covers available again on CD. Some (all?) were released in Japan way back when, and I have a copy of Mohawk (and others)from then. It's a wonderful album with the highlight for me being Roswell Rudd's playing on "Knocking on the White House door".

Does anyone know whether the site is monitored? I e-mailed them weeks ago on what I needed to do to order from them via Paypal and I've yet to get a reply.
-
That's great news - I was wondering whether you would be including the extra track. I'll be putting an order in when it's released.

My copy of "Intents and Purposes" arrived today and I'm really impressed with the care that you have taken, Jonathan, with both the packaging and the recording. It looks gorgeous and even to my "cloth" ears, it sounds wonderful. Thank you so much for making this long OOP recording available once more. Is "Dogon A.D." similarly going to be a straight copy of the original LP?

I've heard from Hazel that she's now received copies of the above. In the UK it's £11.50 (incl. p&p) using Paypal. (ogunrecords@googlemail.com).

Are there any box bargains currently available?
Head Man replied to GA Russell's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Thanks for the 'heads-up'! My order's in. -
Heard from Hazel Miller today that she expects to receive copies of this "within the week". "NEW RELEASE FROM OGUN SPIRITUAL KNOWLEDGE AND GRACE LOUIS MOHOLO–MOHOLO • DUDU PUKWANA JOHNNY DYANI • with Rev. FRANK WRIGHT Catalogue number: OGCD 035 Barcode number: 5 020675 572324 > LOUIS MOHOLO-MOHOLO DUDU PUKWANA • JOHNNY DYANI with Rev. FRANK WRIGHT “Spiritual Knowledge And Grace” Louis Moholo–Moholo drums, voice. Dudu Pukwana alto sax, piano, whistle, voice. Johnny Dyani double bass, piano, voice. Rev. Frank Wright tenor sax, double bass, voice. Ogun is extremely proud to present a previously unreleased recording documenting a one-off collaboration between members of The Blue Notes and tenor sax giant The Reverend Frank Wright. Recorded live in Eindhoven, Holland on what was meant to be the opening night of The Blue Notes’ Dutch tour in 1979, the collaboration was spawned by the unavoidable absence of pianist Chris McGregor and prompted by Louis Moholo-Moholo’s experience of playing alongside Frank in Peter Brotzmann’s Alarm. The tour of Holland proved prolific for The Blue Notes - another Dutch date is set for future release on Ogun - but this meeting of musical titans could not be left in the vaults. Great empathetic performances and an engrossing listen. Ogun Recording Ltd. 79 Farrant Avenue, London N22 6PD Email: ogunrecords@googlemail.com" Looks like a "must have"!

They can't be legit. Does emusic vet who puts music on their site?

The complete concert has been released on CD in Japan. I agree that it's one of his best, but a classic?...I'm not so sure. Anyway it deserves to be more widely heard.

Just as a matter of interest (to me at least), why has Dogon A.D. never had a proper, official release?
