That's great news - I was wondering whether you would be including the extra track. I'll be putting an order in when it's released.

My copy of "Intents and Purposes" arrived today and I'm really impressed with the care that you have taken, Jonathan, with both the packaging and the recording. It looks gorgeous and even to my "cloth" ears, it sounds wonderful. Thank you so much for making this long OOP recording available once more. Is "Dogon A.D." similarly going to be a straight copy of the original LP?

I've heard from Hazel that she's now received copies of the above. In the UK it's £11.50 (incl. p&p) using Paypal. (ogunrecords@googlemail.com).

Are there any box bargains currently available?
Head Man replied to GA Russell's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Thanks for the 'heads-up'! My order's in. -
Heard from Hazel Miller today that she expects to receive copies of this "within the week". "NEW RELEASE FROM OGUN SPIRITUAL KNOWLEDGE AND GRACE LOUIS MOHOLO–MOHOLO • DUDU PUKWANA JOHNNY DYANI • with Rev. FRANK WRIGHT Catalogue number: OGCD 035 Barcode number: 5 020675 572324 > LOUIS MOHOLO-MOHOLO DUDU PUKWANA • JOHNNY DYANI with Rev. FRANK WRIGHT “Spiritual Knowledge And Grace” Louis Moholo–Moholo drums, voice. Dudu Pukwana alto sax, piano, whistle, voice. Johnny Dyani double bass, piano, voice. Rev. Frank Wright tenor sax, double bass, voice. Ogun is extremely proud to present a previously unreleased recording documenting a one-off collaboration between members of The Blue Notes and tenor sax giant The Reverend Frank Wright. Recorded live in Eindhoven, Holland on what was meant to be the opening night of The Blue Notes’ Dutch tour in 1979, the collaboration was spawned by the unavoidable absence of pianist Chris McGregor and prompted by Louis Moholo-Moholo’s experience of playing alongside Frank in Peter Brotzmann’s Alarm. The tour of Holland proved prolific for The Blue Notes - another Dutch date is set for future release on Ogun - but this meeting of musical titans could not be left in the vaults. Great empathetic performances and an engrossing listen. Ogun Recording Ltd. 79 Farrant Avenue, London N22 6PD Email: ogunrecords@googlemail.com" Looks like a "must have"!

They can't be legit. Does emusic vet who puts music on their site?

The complete concert has been released on CD in Japan. I agree that it's one of his best, but a classic?...I'm not so sure. Anyway it deserves to be more widely heard.

Just as a matter of interest (to me at least), why has Dogon A.D. never had a proper, official release?

Is that "Spotlight" or "Spotlite"?

Latest Jazz Services (UK) statistics
Head Man replied to A Lark Ascending's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Every year for the last umpteen, Darlington Arts Centre has run an excellent live jazz season with nearly full houses for all sessions. At the concert last month, (The Stan Tracy Duo/Trio), we learnt that due to cuts in local government funding The Centre was having to drastically reduce its opening times and that jazz had been removed from the programme for next year. -
Thanks for the 'heads-up', Roger. I've just put my order in for 'Drum Spectacular'
-
Good luck with that!

Yes and isn't it shameful that there appears to be only ONE CD by The Human Arts Ensemble currently in print: 'Junk Trap' on Black Saint. Why have neither of the Group's releases on Freedom/Arista ever been re-issued (or have they?). Plus there are a couple from 1976: 'Trio Performance Vols 1 & 2' on the Circle label that are well worth worth hearing again. Is it because the masters have been lost or what?

Not much of a recommendation!

Nothing wrong with comfort music Good luck!

Thanks guys. Now,I wonder why they never did get a domestic CD reissue....but I guess that's whole new question

Does anyone know whether Bud Shank's 80's recordings on Contemporary ever got a release on CD? I'm thinking particularly of 'At Jazz Alley' and 'That Old Feeling', both of which I have on vinyl but have never seen on CD.

£18+ is rather more than I want to pay so does anyone know whether there's a paperback version scheduled for release? -
Didn't he play with Bonnie Scott? Don't you mean Honky Scott-Heron?

Stan Getz Quintets: The Clef & Norgran Studio Albums
Head Man replied to crisp's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Just heard from Amazon that my copy's on it's way. So that's this weekend sorted! -
Surely you must have seen this thread. If I concentrate hard I can usually remember what I had for breakfast, anything earlier is a blur. Thanks for the link

I hadn't realised the Clare Fischer Select had gone, it's one of my favourites. Still, I'm surprised that it has sold out when some of the other (more popular?) sets are still around. Was it a 5000 copy set? There never was a Clare Fischer Select. You are both probably referring to The Pacific Jazz Piano Trios Select with sessions under the leadership of Russ Freeman, Richard Twardzik, Jimmy Rowles and (indeed) Clare Fischer. Most of Fischer's recordings for PJ were originally released on 2 albums, 3 songs remained unissued; his complete PJ output can be found on the Select. I was a bit careless; it was indeed the "Piano Trios" Select I was referring to. To clarify, perhaps we should say that it's Clare Fischer's trio albums on Pacific Jazz that are on the Mosaic Select. There are also the albums "Extension" and "Manteca" for larger band. Yes, I did indeed mean his PJ trio albums, but didn't specify because I was referring to the PJ Piano Trios Select Yep, it was one of the victims. What were the other victims?

John Handy Columbia Mosaic Select announced
Head Man replied to Ron S's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Now that a Japanese re-issue has been announced for his second Roulette album 'No Coast Jazz', does that mean a Mosaic Select is even more unlikely to see the light of day? I love his Roulette albums so I'm tempted to get the Japanese release and hope that the other two get released in Japan as well. -

According to Amazon Germany the release date is now March 15. That might also be the case in the U.K. Right, thanks for that J.A.W. According to Amazon UK it's still 'Temporarily Out Of Stock'
