  1. They're starting their own record company, called "Apple". Don't see how they can possibly go wrong. And Steve Jobs would be greatly honored.
  2. LOL! I liked them better when they were those four zany mop tops on the bubble gum cards and lunch boxes and bobbleheads.
  3. One of my favorite Mathis recordings, along with "Maria" (for which Sondheim was the lyricist, of course). As far as Sondheim scores, I especially like "Company".
  4. How so? I haven't seen this, so honest question.
  5. A giant. RIP.
  6. Gorgeous. Incredible sound and 14 bonus cuts.
  7. I'll take "Exile on Main Street" as their last truly great one.
  8. Technically Anthology 2. Anthology 1 has later BN and Capitol tracks. The Capricorn albums are very nice indeed, an extension of the Hancock albums with the Mwandishi group.
  9. Agreed. That one was what CBS wanted Hoffs to sound like. The one we like is what Hoffs wanted to sound like.
  10. RIP, one of the best on his instrument, and wonderful arranger. 89 years old.
  11. This was always a favorite of mine:
  12. Yeah, a shame. I'd jump on a CD set, but longer announcement says "accompanying the digital release is a 23 page booklet...".
  13. Just saw this on swapacd (never heard of the group): Slightly reminiscent of this!
  14. PM sent on Sonny Fortune Invitation WNCD 79420 $3
  15. I'm a big fan, not aware of this release, will check it out now!
  16. I wonder what Impulse's trajectory would have been if Trane had lived and carried on. I would think they would have made it past 1978, which is when the lights went out at the label.
  17. Pharoah Sanders might also be an interesting trajectory for conjecture.
  18. If you compare them to the original BN covers, they are grossly inferior.
  19. Gary U.S. Bonds. Those records sounded like they were from Mars.
  20. Those horrid Applause covers to go along with their horrid pressings of various Blue Note albums.
