Nice to see the feature of Joe Negri, who went on to a major role in Mister Rogers!

I like her "Passion Dance" (the Tyner composition) album on Telarc a lot. Never heard the one noted here. She's a really good singer.

LF advice on getting white jewel case trays
felser replied to felser's topic in Offering and Looking For...
Doing some more shopping, I can get 200 of them (smallest quantity they offer) for $36 ($26 + $10 shipping) from a place called discmakers.com. I've actually never shopped at bags unlimited before, so did not think of them. I have an offer out on ebay for 100, will go with discmakers.com if that does not pan out. Thanks for the help! -
Looking for most economical route to get 100 white jewel case replacement trays (with or without the rest of the jewel cases). Want them for my vintage Blue Note CD's. Any leads greatly appreciated. I have looked on Ebay and Amazon, so know what is out there. Best price is currently $34 for 100 of the replacement trays (which seems high), so that is what I am looking to beat, thanks.

You might also check out Brian Auger. And the work that Mike Ratledge did with Soft Machine (especially on their third and fourth albums).

Thanks for the lead! For the Porter Records CD deal , I just went to their website http://www.porterrecords.com/ and it was right on the home page. I ordered, and will report back on if/when I receive it. If nothing else, helps repay them for their past good work.

I LOVE Gene Pitney! Own this (3 CD's, 75 cuts). BTW, that documentary on the Wrecking Crew from a few years ago (excellent, and the hours and hours of extras hold up) did a nice job of showing they had lives apart from the records they made. Though I do lose track of considering that. BTW, Hal Blaine's drumming on "Last Chance To Turn Around" is something I have asked people to listen to.

Much of the 50's-early 60's stuff sounded like it was beamed in from another planet (complete with interstellar distortion).

The other motivation on garbage B-sides is songwriting royalties on the record sales. Spector took full writing credit on this one, and the songwriting royalties for the B-side were the same as the songwrting royalties for the A-side. He messed up on the garbage B-side bit on "Hung on You", as he stuck Bobby Hatfield singing "Unchained Melody" there (No Bill Medley involvement at all, songwriting royalties went outside), and it got flipped of course. "Cara Mia" by Jay & The Americans was meant as a B-side. "Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye" by Steam was meant as a B-side. There were lots of others. Sometimes records got flipped by some DJ's, not by others, and both sides charted but ended up in the nether regions of the charts. BTW, England didn't get the message on "River Deep, Mountain High", and it was a huge hit there (as was 'Pet Sounds'). And Englad actually got "good" Herman and the Hermits 45's, not "Mrs. Brown" or "Henry the Eighth". Etc. But it works both ways.

Especially when the flip side is the Ronette's "Be My Baby".

LOL! And we've all been there on these BFT's (especially me).

That was quick, and I was considering doing the same. Glad they went to Jim. And great BFT by Dan!

1 – Beyond the pale for me. Definitely not a WWFL. 2 – Well played, but not my thing at all. 3 – Now this is more up my alley. Not something I would buy, but enjoyable. Clifford Jordan on tenor? 4 – Basie-like. 5 – Pretty tune but gets to drag after a while. 6 – “Along Came Betty” from this Different take on a good composition. 7 – Interesting mash up of “Jitterbug Waltz”, “I’ll Remember April”. 8 – Too laid back and tasteful for me. 9 – Technically formidable, but to what end? 10 – Lovely start to finish. Superior ballad playing. 11 – "Song of Delilah” from this fascinating album. Violinist sounds great on this, and is unmistakable. 12 – I do like this, whatever it is. Especially the piano solo. 13 – Also like this. Good tenor player. 14 – Good guitar playing on this bossa classic, of course. But does not hold my attention well. 15 – Interesting piano duo, and doesn’t overstay it’s welcome. 16 – Nice solo piano “Yesterdays”. Great technique. 17 – Excellent technique, but superior background music to me.

I'm really tempted to just go buy a big haul of Allen Houser from Amazon. Dan or anyone, any thoughts on that? Recommendations on where to start (otherwise I would start with the one represented here), anything I should avoid, etc.? Listened to some samples on Amazon, and they sound great! Can't find much of anything about Houser online. Thanks also for the John Young cut and the Bootsie Barnes!

Dan, my December BFT went Dec. 17-28 with no comments - it's the nature of the beast.
