  1. I LOVE 'The Prisoner' and think highly of 'Fat Albert Rotunda'. Any live recording from that era with decent sound would be most welcome, but I'm not aware of any.
  2. Will be what has become my usual - 50's-80's, focusing on late-60's 70's, and stretching the musical boundaries in some different directions. Some recognizable that may generate some interesting discussion, some a little more obscure, and maybe some surprises. Please let me know if you are willing to participate, and if DL works for you or if you need a CD-R.
  3. I recently bought and then sold the set, about $150 for both transactions.
  4. That William Bell is great. Some great Carla Thomas on Stax also.
  5. I own or owned earlier reissues of the Coker and True Blue. Neither is particularly memorable to me.
  6. Sweet for sure! I do wish that, at some point, they had released Jamal's 'Free Form' and 'Outertimeinnerspace' as a twofer, since they are from the same concert, but glad to get them in any form. And I paid a lot of $ for some of these other titles as Japanese imports in past years.
  7. Agreed can't go wrong with Lee, and I like those just fine, but IMO they don't match albums like 'The Gigolo' and 'Jacknife'.
  8. Upcoming Aretha Franklin 19CD Atlantic Recordings box set for 35 euros + shipping from Amazon.it. My total with shipping came out to $46-47. http://www.amazon.it/gp/product/B014QHQRW2/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=3370&creative=24114&creativeASIN=B014QHQRW2&linkCode=as2&tag=superdeluxe0d-21
  9. 2CD version $15, 6CD version $100, 18CD version $600. My head and wallet are going to win out over my heart and collector tendencies.
  10. Well, Burrell was headed to Bad Company. I would have to agree it is bluesier and more soul-like, especially since it meant he didn't sing lead anymore, replaced by the sublime Paul Rodgers. But both King Crimson and Free surpass Bad Company. And for that matter, Buffalo Springfield, the Byrds, and the Hollies all surpass CSN(Y), etc. The curse of the "supergroups".
  11. Be sure you get the remastered CD of 'Earthbound' (2002 or later). The LP and the original CD sound terrible. The remaster isn't great (or even good) sound either, but a considerable improvement.
  12. 1 - I like every player and the tune. 50's hard bop in all its glory. Zoot Sims? 2 - Very polite and genteel. Not something I would return to. George Shearing? 3 - Love it, hope I have it, but can't identify it. Has the feel of the 70's-80's South Central L.A. UGMAA stuff, which I discovered and became addicted to last year. I understand that it isn't technically perfect, but it's alive and beautiful to me. My favorite cut on the entire 4-in-1 BFT by far, but likely due to my wiring as much as anything else. YMMV. 4 - Hate the guitar sound, have no use for the track in general. Antithesis of #3 in many ways. 5 - Well it sure SOUNDS like the Basie band, doesn't it? #2 is Teddy Charles, really? I guess I'll have to relisten. And I see I botched 1/3/5 pretty badly. And 4 I hated, so not a good BFT for me. Still really looking forward to the reveal on #3, and hope I have it on the shelves somewhere.
  13. I'm in eventually, ,but not at $25. It's early enough music that the synthsized effects shouldn't be there, a saving grace for me. I did like 70's Abercrombie.
  14. 1 - Works for me. Looking forward to the ID. I usually long for a bass player on this sort of thing, but this cut doesn't need it (and would have no room for it). 2 - I own a lot of this sort of thing, but don't listen to it much. Probably has great historical value. Oliver Lake-ish to me. 3 - I like the alto player a lot. Sounds like Sonny Simmons. 4 - Not my cup of tea. It don't mean a thing if it ain't got some swing, or whatever. 5 - Utterly, totally lost on me.
  15. The detective in me says that cut #2 must be this: cut 2 ID Sure wish it had been included on the excellent CD reissue of this! source album
  16. 1 - Classic 50's sounding big band stuff. Was it recorded a little later, maybe in the 60's? Whenever, sounds great in 2015. 2 - Delightful, sort of Jeremy Steig-ish. Looking forward to the reveal on this one. 3 - I kept waiting for Cissy Houston and the girls to enter in. "Sweet Inspiration", not sure who it's by. King Curtis/Willie Mitchell hybrid, but it's not Curtis. Not something I would actively return to. 4 - Nothing wrong with it at all, but just background music to my ears. 5/6 - Stomp those moldy figs!
  17. Herbie Hancock Columbia set on Amazon UK - 40 pounds and shipping for 30+ CD's. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-listing/B003M3UJIK/ref=dp_olp_new?ie=UTF8&condition=new
  18. Last night I ordered the Ellington Vol. 2, Monk Live, and Blakey boxes from Oxfordshire (my British go-to, though I have done OK with the other major British fulfillers also), roughly $82 + $12 shipping total for the three boxes (28 discs).
  19. Yes. thanks so much. A lot of really good music by a lot of totally unfamiliar (to me) names. Also reinforces my already held beliefs when I see that all of the ones I identified as liking a lot in the BFT turn out to have been recorded between 1966-1973. I'm off to find me some Masabumi Kikuchi CD's!
  20. Is that list in the chronological order of the recording dates? I've put the albums in the same order as they come in the box according to the Italian site, but yes, they were recorded in that order too according to this. F PS: According to Wikipedia, they were also released in that order, except Moto Grosso Feio, which came out after Odyssey... Etcetera and Soothsayer weren't released until years later.
  21. I guess the 'Four and More' and 'My Funny Valentine' albums with Coleman/Hancock/Carter/Williams probably fit the same description, but I've always loved those albums, and like the Black Hawk albums fine.
  22. That would be wonderful! Please let me know if you hear more. Went out and got this on ebay for under $10 ($17.50ish with shipping) based on your recommendation, John Hicks's participation, and the songs on the CD (can't wait to hear Coltrane's "The Promise"). There's another on ebay for about the same price. Amazon Marketplace and Discogs are much higher, and Half doesn't have it at all.
  23. Really sorry to hear that. Those were the ones I had in mind.
  24. Now if someone would just reissue 'Rumasuma' as a labor of love! And some of those obscure 70's Prince Lasha albums while they're at it!
