  1. Still looking for this CD if anyone has one available.
  2. from the Hoffman Forum, see below. BTW, i didn't miss the bonus tracks, which were pretty blah, so never worried about it. One customer review / comment mentions that Sony seems to have fixed the problem with the (2) missing tracks on "Sings the Blues" included in "The Complete RCA Albums Collection".
  3. Available for around $22 + shipping on Amazon Marketplace. My total for the 8 CD box, including shipping, was $25.94.
  4. http://www.amazon.com/Like-Rolling-Stone-Dylan-Crossroads/dp/158648382X $.01 + $3.99 shipping on Amazon Marketplace for the book.
  5. The Greil Marcus book about Like A Rolling Stone is a fascinating read if you care deeply about the record. To me, it defined my generation in many ways, but YMMV greatly.
  6. I don't normally go for this sort of thing, but this may be the exception. I'll certainly at least spring for the 2CD highlights set. http://www.superdeluxeedition.com/news/bob-dylan-the-cutting-edge-1965-66-the-bootleg-series-vol-12/?mc_cid=15fd656033&mc_eid=7c07e0d1a3
  7. Perhaps the project was at least partially funded by Carlos Santana Yeah, often I do cringe when I hear/read what he has to say. He made some GREAT music ca. 1969-1976. When I think of him, I remember the old Nils Lofgren lyric: "I'll play my guitar all night and all day, just don't ask me to think". Also where I'm coming down on those two sets.
  8. I believe he also hated some of the albums that were in the studio sessions box set. He was wrong as they are all great. I'm still optimistic that we will get the complete live box. Well, some are a good bit greater than others. But I agree, no real dogs in that box. And doubt there would be in a live box either.
  9. Thx. I have the Andorran 'Gap Sealer' CD, and the 'Love and Understanding' tracks are bad vinyl rips. Though 'The Gap Sealer' album itself actually sounds pretty good on that CD.
  10. Apparently released on Xanadu. Let me know if you have one you are willing to sell (or trade if you prefer), or if you have lead on where I can find one that doesn't have silly season pricing on it. I checked Amazon, Half, Ebay, and Discogs already. Thanks.
  11. Then they should do a complete "authorized live recordings" or something.
  12. Yes, a huge disappointment. I can safely and comfortably pass on this one. Oh well. $60 saved.
  13. I know that Jimmy Heath's "Love and Understanding" was listed as being released on Xanadu CD, but I never saw it, and would have snapped it up immediately. Did anyone every actually see it on CD? And for that matter, does anyone know where I can get a copy of the CD if it exists? (the Andorran "bonus" version of it on the Gap Sealer CD is a very bad needle drop).
  14. Well, it's a relief to know that Duke Ellington is still something of a name . The Gordon box has never come down in price the way every other box in this series has. It is the only one I would like to have that I've never bought. I can see it is apparently currently OOP and has silly season prices attached. That being said, I've seen other titles in this series apparently go OOP, and then apparently get reprinted, with corresponding price fluctuations. I think especially of the Woody Shaw box, but also believe I saw it happen with the RTF box. BTW, to me, the Woody Shaw is amazing, beats the Mosaic hands down in bonus material and (for me, anyways) sound quality, despite costing like 1/4 of the price. I"m in on the three new ones (Duke, Blakey, Monk LIve), and am hopeful for Brubeck Live and more from this series. though I 'm not sure right off what the obvious "more" would be given the apparent parameters of these boxes. I guess J.J. Johnson for one, combining his Columbia and RCA recordings.
  15. I agree that "Let My Children Hear Music" sounds better in the box set than in the original CD.
  16. Sometimes they do new remastering for these sets. Generally, the sound quality on these sets has been outstanding to my ears.
  17. Generally, the prices come down quite a bit on those Columbia sets a few months after they are released, so patience pays on them.
  18. Also my evaluation, but I have to have it for the music. It's listenable, but no more than that. For Mingus fanatics (like me) only.
  19. Mind is getting a little foggy here, but IIRC, the original album mentioned contributions by Archie Shepp and, I think, Art Davis, that were left on the cutting room floor. Have those sections been released previously, are the present here, and what are they like?
  20. So I risked $10 on the 2CD set "The Complete Live at Raji's" by The Dream Syndicate, and am just absolutely blown away by it. Wow, love the guitar roar and the whole vibe. Never knew Steve Wynn had that bandleading in him, had been unimpressed by the little bit of his solo stuff I had hear. I know I need to get "Days of Wine and Roses" by them, what else by them? Interested in experiencing Karl Precota's guitar playing, and more of Paul Cutler's playing. Not interested in production with 80's synths and gloss. As far as the rest of the Paisley Underground scene, I have the CD with the Rain Parade's first LP and EP, and have the Bangles stuff, and the one big album by the Plimsouls. Not into country rock, so don't need to experience the Gram Parsons-inspired branch (sounds like the Long Ryders and I guess Green on Red fit that description). What else? Anyone familiar with a group called True West, or one called The Steppes? Some interesting-looking stuff available by them. Any guidance greatly appreciated. This seems to be one of the last unexplored frontiers of interest for me in pop music (along with some fairly obscuro 70's/80's R&B and freestyle stuff). Thanks.
