Yes, from that album. I had never heard it before, either, until I picked it up from CDJapan along with some of the other recent Mainstream reissues. Should now be easy enough to identify which track.
  2. I'd buy the McPherson on CD in a heartbeat.

Great job, Davis and Wilkins are both correct! And drummer is interesting...
  4. Yes, never the same player again.
  5. And Wills stole 104 bases that year, an inconceivable number for that era. Main beneficiary was Tommy Davis, who drove in 153 runs that year. The single season high for any season between 1950 and 1997.
  6. Agreed, one of the gems of the label.

So we have full ID's on 1,4,8,9 and partial ID's on 2,3,6,11. Nothing on 5,7,10.

    Correct on all counts!

  10. The Tapscott is gonna blow your mind - great stuff. The Caliman is pretty wonderful also.

BFT 165 can be found in the link below (thanks as always to Thom Keith for posting). Music is from a 31-year period, but as usual mostly from my mid-60's to mid-70's sweet spot, with boundaries stretched in some different directions. Looking forward to sharing this with you, and to your discussion! http://thomkeith.net/index.php/blindfold-tests/
  12. I really like the 1975 "Live at Montreux" on Freedom.
  13. Thanks all~
  14. Saw them twice: at the Wilmington Opera House in the mid-late 80's - Philip Harper, Benny Green (his first gig with them), I think Jean Toussaint, don't remember the others. at Penn's Landing shortly before Blakey passed - Brian Lynch, Geoff Keezer, Steve Davis, Dale Barlow and Javon Jackson both on tenor, don't remember the bass player. Very good both times Also saw the Harper Brothers band at Penn's Landing around the same time. Javon Jackson, Nedra Wheeler, Kevin Hays. Excellent concert. Do need to say I found Jackson lacking both times, though he has always sounded OK to me on record, so he may have just had bad nights when I saw him.
  15. Bought it in late 1972. First semester of college. Had discovered jazz via "A Love Supreme" at my college library at the start of the semester, listened non-stop to WRTI, discovered Blue Note, and bought the Morgan album.
  16. I'm not. First jazz album I ever bought. And "Absolutions" is the cut that was my wakeup call on that album.
  17. Now on sale for $500 there.About $80 on Discogs, and it's certainly worth that, though I think they did get the best of it onto the original album, so the single disc SHM is also a legit way to go.
  18. Clifford, can you give us a preview of what our ears could expect from this? Never quite sure what to make of the DG descriptions. Is this up my alley?
  19. As mentioned earlier. Abysmal Sound, sublime music:
  20. Not sure how this little hidden gem fell through the cracks in the 80's. Rightly should have sold at least several hundred thousand copies...
  21. I'm glad to do December again, as I have the past few years.
  22. The Barbieri Flying Dutchman sets are, to me, the best of both his career and some of the best of the label. Especially the Montreux "El Pampero", which is magical, with the totally unexpected Lonnie Liston Smith/Chuck Rainey/Bernard Purdie/Nana rhythm section. I've had the Tapscott, the Gil, and the Ornette on other CD issues for some time. "Pieces of a Man" is THE great Gil Scott-Heron album. The Leon Thomas titles are excellent as well, but they're missing my favorite of all, the Live one with Oliver Nelson. The Tapscott is awesome, of course, but has been discussed many times on this board. Fairyland is one of my favorite Coryell albums ever.
  23. Agreed on all counts. Thankful those Strata-East's were recorded/released at all.
  24. The 92 Bellaphon doesn't' sound great, and I don't remember the vinyl sounding great back in the day (for any of the Strata-East releases, truth be told, and I had/have a lot of them). Sounds like the Japanese release is the way to go, price permitting. Re: Tolliver - the All-Stars date (Tolliver/Bartz/Hancock/Carter/J. Chambers) never did make it to CD to my knowledge. Everyone needs to grab "The Ringer" while they can, and the Mosaic Selects of the Strata-East stuff.
  25. Spectacular deal - someone needs to jump on this RIGHT NOW. Great set.
