Can anyone give a description of the Mine and the Ohno? I find items like the early-70's Kikuchi sessions to be intriguing, but need to tread cautiously at Japanese import prices.

Excellent set, I have one of the Japanese CD's of it. The one idea I ever submitted to Mosaic was for a Hutcherson-Land box to include this, the Land Mainstream dates with Hutcherson, and the Hutcherson Blue Notes with Land (and grab that one great live cut from ENJA). They said they were going to try, but I guess the cross-licensing was prohibitive.

Yes it is, and pretty unique entry in the Rivers canon.

Same thoughts here. I am very happy with the two previous sets, this would have to include something really meaningful from the 71-75 period to get me to even consider it, let alone pull the trigger.

Understood (for 45 years), but the Land CD reissue was messed up (hope it's not the master tape) - I have a burn from vinyl that is sonically far superior. A good needle drop would be a meaningful improvement over what was released in the spring. And I'm not one of those guys who longs for a return to analogue or anything. Wait to see what the third-party resellers do price-wise (looking at you, Import-CD's and OxfordshireEngland)

'Full Moon Fever', 'Into The Great Wide Open', and 'Hypnotic Eye' were all top 10 albums in the UK, with 'Into The Great Wide Open' going to #3.

We get another shot of Harold Land's "A New Shade of Blue" being released on CD. I have a lot of the later live archival stuff, and enjoy it, but it's all Randy California. If you enjoy the idea of him doing extended takes on classic titles, it's for you, But the pop sensibilities of Jay Ferguson and the dynamics of John Locke are long gone, If you like Ferguson (I do), check out the four albums by Jo Jo Gunne. Those are probably the next purchase after the four classic Spirit titles, ahead of the later California Spirit titles.

And how is the sound quaility. Are there any samples available anywhere?

HUGE fan here, and his loss seems inevitable, even if the official reporting was premature. "Refugee" and "Here Comes My Girl" helped shape my world. One of the greatest live bands ever, along with Springsteen/E-Street.

Yeah, I can still see the Record Museum cutout sticker on my copy of it in my mind. Was my second album by Weston, along with the Montreux set he did with Harper (also a cutout - on my income back then, they were almost always cutouts. And whatever happened to cutout bins - where do out of print CD's go now?).

Saw him/them at the Spectrum in Philly in the early 70's. I think Spooky Tooth opened (the version with Mike Patto), then the original Mahavishnu Orchestra, who were amazing, then Zappa and Co., who were very good, but of course paled in comparison to McLaughlin and Co.

Or that great standard, "You Go To My Head".

Here is the listed personnel, though it sounds like Shepp on the "vocals" to me on Uhuru. Definitely Dave Burrell on piano, though. That was his signature drone. Makes what Fantasy did seem even more miraculous in retrospect. We are blessed that there isn't all that much from Prestige/Riverside that wasn't reissued on CD.
