  1. The expert playing and indulgent/garbage material reminds me of a short story my nephew wrote in high school, about three teenagers who possessed super powers and used them for shoplifting.
  2. PM sent on Rahsaan:Complete Mercury Recordings Box set - Rahsaan Roland KirkWARNING there is NO Disc 1. instead of Disc 1 there are 2 Disc 10's in the boxOther than that all discs are VG+. Booklet is VG, corners are bent. Box has shelf wear, ithas dings on it, not perfect .CD's made in West Germany all have Atomic design. One jewel case has small crack on spine.$25 shipped in USA
  3. I find several of these compelling, and #8 is a "must get it as soon as it is revealed" thing. Hopefully it is in print and not outrageously expensive, or even better yet, already sitting on my shelves somewhere. #12 isn't far behind (and I've been a Sonny Greenwich fan for decades), and I like #6, #15, and #16 quite a bit also, and anxiously await their identities. I do have to admit that some of the others (especially #10) just leave me scratching my head.
  4. PM responded to, thanks so much!
  5. What do you consider to be the best album(s) for appreciating Spedding?
  6. @ Jim, Yes, one take. Take 4 on June 16. They still tried 11 more takes, but had the perfect one on tape. Fascinating writing about the recording process in the Marcus book.
  7. No way I'm going 18 discs with false starts, etc. Maybe 6 discs, probably 2 discs. And I LOVE the original albums.
  8. Still looking for this CD if anyone has one available.
  9. I also like the sonic upgrades.
  10. from the Hoffman Forum, see below. BTW, i didn't miss the bonus tracks, which were pretty blah, so never worried about it. One customer review / comment mentions that Sony seems to have fixed the problem with the (2) missing tracks on "Sings the Blues" included in "The Complete RCA Albums Collection".
  11. Available for around $22 + shipping on Amazon Marketplace. My total for the 8 CD box, including shipping, was $25.94.
  12. http://www.amazon.com/Like-Rolling-Stone-Dylan-Crossroads/dp/158648382X $.01 + $3.99 shipping on Amazon Marketplace for the book.
  13. The Greil Marcus book about Like A Rolling Stone is a fascinating read if you care deeply about the record. To me, it defined my generation in many ways, but YMMV greatly.
  14. I don't normally go for this sort of thing, but this may be the exception. I'll certainly at least spring for the 2CD highlights set. http://www.superdeluxeedition.com/news/bob-dylan-the-cutting-edge-1965-66-the-bootleg-series-vol-12/?mc_cid=15fd656033&mc_eid=7c07e0d1a3
  15. Perhaps the project was at least partially funded by Carlos Santana Yeah, often I do cringe when I hear/read what he has to say. He made some GREAT music ca. 1969-1976. When I think of him, I remember the old Nils Lofgren lyric: "I'll play my guitar all night and all day, just don't ask me to think". Also where I'm coming down on those two sets.
  16. I believe he also hated some of the albums that were in the studio sessions box set. He was wrong as they are all great. I'm still optimistic that we will get the complete live box. Well, some are a good bit greater than others. But I agree, no real dogs in that box. And doubt there would be in a live box either.
  17. Thx. I have the Andorran 'Gap Sealer' CD, and the 'Love and Understanding' tracks are bad vinyl rips. Though 'The Gap Sealer' album itself actually sounds pretty good on that CD.
  18. Apparently released on Xanadu. Let me know if you have one you are willing to sell (or trade if you prefer), or if you have lead on where I can find one that doesn't have silly season pricing on it. I checked Amazon, Half, Ebay, and Discogs already. Thanks.
  19. Then they should do a complete "authorized live recordings" or something.
  20. Yes, a huge disappointment. I can safely and comfortably pass on this one. Oh well. $60 saved.
  21. I know that Jimmy Heath's "Love and Understanding" was listed as being released on Xanadu CD, but I never saw it, and would have snapped it up immediately. Did anyone every actually see it on CD? And for that matter, does anyone know where I can get a copy of the CD if it exists? (the Andorran "bonus" version of it on the Gap Sealer CD is a very bad needle drop).
  22. Kwanza was a Muse LP.
  23. PM sent on the Gillespie.
  24. Well, it's a relief to know that Duke Ellington is still something of a name . The Gordon box has never come down in price the way every other box in this series has. It is the only one I would like to have that I've never bought. I can see it is apparently currently OOP and has silly season prices attached. That being said, I've seen other titles in this series apparently go OOP, and then apparently get reprinted, with corresponding price fluctuations. I think especially of the Woody Shaw box, but also believe I saw it happen with the RTF box. BTW, to me, the Woody Shaw is amazing, beats the Mosaic hands down in bonus material and (for me, anyways) sound quality, despite costing like 1/4 of the price. I"m in on the three new ones (Duke, Blakey, Monk LIve), and am hopeful for Brubeck Live and more from this series. though I 'm not sure right off what the obvious "more" would be given the apparent parameters of these boxes. I guess J.J. Johnson for one, combining his Columbia and RCA recordings.
