  1. DL, pls thx!
  2. Also check out the George Adams.
  3. That gets my attention. I've never heard the Bethlehem stuff have good sound.
  4. "Nine Feet Underground" (David Sinclair's contributions especially) was a life changing listen for me back in the day. Evyerthing up through 'Cunning Stunts' has a lot of worthwhile material. Rhey never really learned how to consistently do good short tracks, but excelled at the long ones. So the two I have and these two are the only ones I need? No, you also need 'And The New Symphonia' and 'Cunning Stunts', and maybe some additional 70's live material (there's a lot of it out there).
  5. I just had chills and might have trouble sleeping tonight. Chuck, maybe you can get expedited shipping for a few dollars extra...
  6. The one that has never worked for me is "Bass on Top", and it's a bad idea that Ron Carter has taken to ad infinitum since the 70's.

Wasn't the answer they were looking for, I guess. Maybe "Richie Kamuca Plays for Lovers" would have had a shot with their catalog department.
  8. I keep some cheap CD's on hold in my cart to fill out orders to $25.
  9. Pm sent on Charles Mingus -The Charles Mingus Groups. Debut Rarities, vol.4 (Debut/OJC) some nicks $3 Dave Pike - The Doors of Perception (Atlantic/WPCR-27290) Japanese remastered reissue, w/obi, $7 Sonny Stitt - Plays Jimmy Giuffre Arrangements/A Little Bit of Stitt (American Jazz Classics) $7
  10. Overkill for me, for sure. I like that period of Crimson, but still... Hope they consider a (much) smaller box of this later.
  11. If the CTI reissue series couldn't survive, I don't have much hope for this one, especially if go-forward decisions are made on sales of CD titles being released for the third time. I've never heard good sound quaiity on any of the Bethlehem material, regardless of who was issuing in and in whatever format.
  12. Same here.
  13. Wish they would look at the realities/opportunities of the CD era, and release sets by artist, not individual titles. I pretty well have what I really want from this label, as much of it has been out twice already.

Why not do a Montreux '75 box and a Montreux '77 box? Each could probably be housed in maybe five or six CD's, from what I remember. And there was a lot of cross-pollination which would make a box flow well. And the quaility was consistent from what I remember, wouldn't be the yo-yo effect of. say, Blue Note Montreux '73 or Flying Dutchman '71 being gathered in a box.
  15. and this box appears to be especially cheesy in conception.
  16. Per an Amazon customer review: CD 1 Dig Dis (compilation of Roll Call and Soul Station) CD 2 & Max Roach (The Max Roach Quartet, Featuring Hank Mobley) CD 3 Mobley's Musings (Hank Mobley and his All Stars) CD 4 Stretchin' Out (Peckin Time) CD 5 My Groove Your Move (Roll Call) CD 6 Wham and They're Off (Hank Mobley Quintet) CD 7 with Kenny Clarke & Donald Byrd (7 tracks from Birth of Hard Bop) CD 8 in the Max Roach 4 (The Max Roach 4 Plays Charlie Parker first 6 tracks) CD 9 with Freddie Hubbard (Freddie Hubbard Goin' Up) CD 10 with Dizzy Reese (Dizzy Reece Star Bright)
  17. all of the material and lots more is on the Mosaic Select.
  18. Guess it says something that I own 6 of the 7 cuts, but only ID'd one of them (the Lasha/Simmons)
  19. The Brubeck is also under $60 for 17 disks, but the Dexter is still pricey. I've been watching that one and the Taj Mahal (which is getting close to my jumping point, about $55 for 13 discs). The Johnny Cash is under $150 for 63 discs, but too much I'm not interested in on that set, even at $2.25 per disc. The Kansas is about $30 for 11 discs.
  20. I'll get it if/when the price gets really low, as is happening on a lot of their other similar jazz boxes. At $10 a disc, I'm not interested. At $3 a disc, I certainly am, regardless of how many of them I already own.
  21. I'm also a big fan of those Cyrille discs.
  22. As far as I know that set has the same content as the 1991 one. The 1991 box corrected a lot of mistakes on the original box from the 80's (wrong takes used, etc. - big errors) and added a full additional disk. Not just a minor remastering taste issue.
  23. Wow. Incredible prices on those. I'll bet the shipping charges are high, though. Might double your cost, but it still may be less than other sources... Shipping on Amazon Marketplace is $3.99 per item ordered, so both still come in under $20.
  24. I highly recommend that Atlantic R&B box!
