Because no other label so cluelessly bleeds and rebleeds the same titles over and over and over again. There actually are some ways I would rebuy yet again some of the same music, if it were more efficiently and attractively packaged, like the three Coltrane box sets of recent years, but individual titles yet again ain't it. However, another Valentines day has come and gone, and I'm still waiting for "Prince Lasha and Sonny Simmons Play For Lovers" to be released.

I do too, but they certainly are different. Mighty big of Hutch to give Joe so much space on his dates. Nearly an hour of Chambers tunes (in total), if I remember correctly. I intended to make a CDR of all of them once, but never got around to it. I should at least remind myself of what all those Chambers tunes are (yes, I'm fishing to see if anybody already already has that list handy, or else I'll get to it myself one of these days). Third the Chambers tracks. In fact, I like the second half of Components waaay more than the first half. I'll publicly concur with Al's view, so he doesn't feel too isolated. I've always found those Chambers cuts to be overly difficult.

Also Tyrone Washington - Natural Essence comes back. Joe Chambers is amazing on that one. Is Blue Note going to do any more domestic reissues anytime soon?

I don't think that Oblique was ever a Conn. It came out initially as one of those white case issues I think - 'Collector's Choice'? Still have it - and remember the euphoria of coming across it in the racks at a Canadian branch of A&B Sound for $9.99 back in the day ! Picked up the King vinyl years later. You're right; it was a CC - which only means it came and went oop even earlier, with a longer gap until the RVG came out. I love those Hutcherson quartet albums! I believe the Collectors Choice series were reissues of CD's that had already fallen out of print. Nothing had it's original CD issue in that series. I don't remember if Oblique was a Conn or not, don't think it was.

Just had my first (and last) experience looking around the Steve Hoffman Forum offering and and looking for section. I learned that just about every version of just about every CD ever made is a rare classic and unspeakably valuable.

Shout Factory somehow got the rights to The T.A.M.I. Show after so many years, and it is coming out on DVD on March 23, complete and uncut (even has the Beach Boys performances). Haven't seen this one since I was a 9-10 year old, and can't wait!!! Seeing James Brown in this at that age, the whole fainting bit and all, was life-changing for me!

Correct. Rhino/Atlantic put out a Tristano twofer that is only missing one track I think from two Tristano Atlantic albums, and most of not all of the Konitz and Marsh stuff is available on Atlantic, Rhino, and 32 Jazz titles. The Konitz stuff with guitar is really nice. As for other Tristano, I like the Crosscurrents reissue that came out on Capitol, and there is a good Proper box which gathers up the earlier sessions. Many of the "off label" live releases have utterly abysmal sound quality which makes the music unlistenable despite it's obvious artistic merits. Does anyone know if the rest of the live stuff from the Mosaic which is not on the Atlantic twofer ever came out on CD?

I play MJQ 'The Last Concert' or Kenny Barron 'Spiral' (solo piano) or 'Everybody Digs Bill Evans' when we have company. 'Kind of Blue' would probably work well also.

In 1975, the great Rory Gallagher was touring the US as the opening act for Bachman-Turner Overdrive. I didn't see the show, but I've seen Rory's Montreux Festival performance from 1975 on DVD. How those hacks from BTO followed that, I'll never know. Gallagher's Irish Tour '74 DVD (and CD) is also not to be missed. What a monster musician he was, one of THE great guitar players, from such an early age (what was he, 20 when the first Taste albums came out?). Hard to believe he passed so young. re: the fuss about Allen - If people whitewashed their views, this place would get a lot duller. The passion of the views is a lot of what makes the Organissimo forum what it is> re: Chicago cred for C. Freeman - would be very interested to hear Chuck's take on this. Really good news. The India Navigation's are fine fine sets (as are the Contemporary's from the same period). Also, the Cecil McBee's from that period are prime C.Freeman. @Niko - no, don't think so from where I sit. Von has gotten a lot of attention in recent years, and Chico seems largely forgotten after a couple decades of disappointing efforts. Never have understood what happened to him, as he started so majestically. Von and Chico are very different players, of course, and the times seem to have swung jazz tastes back towards Von to a degree. Von has always been lost on my ears, especially the later stuff, but YMMV.
