  1. It is a good one, though quite shocking and upsetting in some ways. Very thought-provoking.
  2. But at least this is a CD version.
  3. Gambit Records has you covered: https://www.discogs.com/release/1980758-Ornette-Coleman-Quintet-With-Don-Cherry-Paul-Bley-Complete-Live-At-The-Hillcrest
  4. RIP, quite a run (98 years) and quite a fine legacy. Blessings and peace to his loved ones.
  5. A number of good Stevie covers on this gem:
  6. And "Another Star" is MIA, and "That Girl" is only #39.
  7. Great set - wonderful presentation of incredible music. This and the corresponding Ornette and Mingus sets, were, to me, as close to perfect as these things get.
  8. The ones where that box goes for $150+ and so much if it is previously released on OTC, Big Fun, and Get Up With It.
  9. 5 hours 46 minutes total for the new set 4+ hours of it previously officially unreleased. I eventually broke down and bought a used copy of Vol. 7, and it was better than I expected, the live stuff being the most rewarding. Where I've drawn the line is the later albums on WB and the ridiculous prices on the Complete On The Corner box (I've owned it but cashed it in).
  10. Agreed. Teo Macero knew a thing or two about how to produce a Miles Davis album...
  11. This.
  12. Amazon pricing is problematic on this. Six CD set. Amazon pre-order $99.98. ImportCDs pre-order $67.89.
  13. Great news, count me in, love that period!
  14. "Blame it on the bossa nova, the dance of love" - Eydie Gorme
  15. I've always felt that the original company and the Don Was current company have nothing in common except a name and some catalog rights (there was a period when the label rebooted in the 80's that at least some of the artist names were the same, but the spirit and quality weren't). So a compilation like this claiming a continuity strikes me as just wrong. YMMV.
  16. "Mas Que Nada" is a great groover, the cut by them I play the most. The title track to "Crystal Illusions" is wonderfully imaginative and progressive.
  17. Love the Brasil '66 albums with the great Lani Hall vocals. Also enjoy the Brasil '65 stuff with Wanda De Sah, and the Brasil '77 stuff. And Primal Roots was a stunning detour. RIP.
  18. Graham Maby with Joe Jackson.

Is #12 Courtney Pine? I know he did some of this sort of thing with Julian Joseph on piano.

I have that album, haven't listened to it in many years and have never put the cuts on it to memory. It was pretentious career suicide for a group coming off a huge hit single and album, though not uninteresting, and it did chart well based on the momentum of the first album. But the group broke up two years later, with the bass player and drummer off to form Cactus (that group was the antithesis of this album), then join up with Jeff Beck.
